Some serious bargains to be had here:

-
well spotted
the ones that say storm damage wont last long will they ?
-
Not necessarily, but they certainly have a higher chance of breaking and come with no guarantee. That said, you might get longer than you think.
Good chance to sample an M&H to see how good they are without forking out BIG money
I might have been tempted to buy one, but just tied up all my available cricket equipment cash in an order for S&J :(
-
1st time ive seen M and H selling these off....
had some storm damaged Newbery's in the past, one i had for a while, one split right in half and 2 games.I was acually holding one half of the bat in my hand while the bowler killed himself laughing!!!
you can get a bargain but tread carefully would be my advice.....all that glitters price wise aint gold sometimes!!!!

Millichamp are great bats, ive had 4 and all have been great except 1 which was a stunning harlequin in 2.8 it had 16 straight grains and possibly the best looking bat ive owned, it snapped clean in half after letting my brother use it in a game, wasnt his fault it was storm damaged and snapped horizontally just under the splice.....
-
yep canners mine newbery went under the splice, horizontally right in half
.
there does look like some softs bargains and a few grade 3's thou
worth a look for sure
-
i've got some bats with surface cracks if anyone wants one for £250!
-

after the great storm in 1987, loads of bats broke in the following 2 years. Most snapped in half and the reason was storm damaged willow had been used in mass production. I'd steer clear of these pieces of wood, you'll lucky to see a dozen games from them.
-
Sent my pair of lightly used M&H distinction MRH pads back at the start of the season due to the stitching coming lose, they sent me a new pair so I have a sneaky feeling that those £35 Distinction pads are the ones I sent back..Might buy them and see if they are the same ones...
Thanks for the link btw.
EDIT: Anybody have any experience of their Double Decker bags? They look quite good and for 30 off quid you can't really go wrong..
-
Some good advice here chaos do be careful buying bats in this clearance.a few more quid and a proper bat could be had from Matt and others!
-
Very good advice mr ppc ;)
-
I would second that but it'd be more like eighthing it or some such. M&H have always been guilty of over egging the price point pudding in my humble opinion, and this is another example - at half these prices, you might be talking about a worthwhile risk, but even then I wouldn't recommend it to someone who couldn't afford to get stung.
-
Was tempted by the 'half price' duffle as £15 sounds very good for a M&H one. But who knows how bad they are marked!!
And Amazon have unmarked ones for £20.

I was wondering if the double decker could fit a full size bat in. Anybody got pics of the helmets?
M&H Website very poor at discussing features of these items imho.
-
The double decker can definitely fit in a SH
-
£200 for a grade 3 bat...what is the world coming to???
-
£200 for a grade 3 bat...what is the world coming to???
I thought that too... Not much of a deal :(
-
at least it's not £350 :o
-
This is very tempting. Been after a m&h s6 for a while, but not sure if its worth taking the risk? the sorts definitely look a good deal, shame I don't need any.
-
Hmmm - £100 - £140 for a bat that is ultimately going to break before it's time?
Might as well add £40 ish to your budget and get a proper lower-grade bat from one of our forum sponsors.
-
Or just not buy anything? Or, indeed, buy 300 bars of Dairy Milk.
-
Too expensive and too risky to invest in any of the bats. Plus £200 for G3 bat looks like a joke when you can get a top performing G1 for BlackCat, H4L, Instinct, Redback, Warsop etc for £200-£240!!
Also unlike Salix, no warranty on the clearance items!!!
-
This has to be the worst offer ever surely?!how much would a G1 storm bat be, more expensive than the M&H Master?
-
Newbery used to do their storm damaged bats for as little as £30!
-
If we marketed a £500 bat and marked it as 50% off it would it appear as a "bargain" ???
How accurate are RRP's as the word "recommended" is some what open to interpretation.
-
A guy who used to play for us has got the double decker bag and there lovely!
-
Have asked them for pictures of few items so lets see.
-
What is meant by 'storm damaged'? Surely the blade is in factory condition?
-
the willow is storm damaged that the bats are made from so the trees may have been bent/twisted/warped that have been cut down and clefted
-
see my 1987 comment. Basically the willow will have a weakness caused by storm damage. You might be lucky to have a bat produced from an unaffected area of the tree but having seen lots of Hunts Reflex's snap in two, I wouldn't touch them at that price.
-
Storm damaged bats are a lottery but at 200 quid it's too big a gamble.
-

It definitely fits a full size bat in - I'm in the process of making a few alterations/additions and in theory creating the perfect cricket bag (for my 5 bats plus WK gear)!
-
I had questions on there bags and this is what they said in reply;
None of the bags are damaged, the unbranded sample is the same design with white leather flashings and no embroidered logo's, the sub-standard finish is an internal lining issue, one of the sides has not been stitched up but it does not effect the bag in anyway, the tan leather bag is as new, the rails on the bottom got damaged in transit and have been replaced with studs. I attach a picture of the pad as this is damaged.
-
With white flashings, I'm still confused what do they mean by that?
Sub-standard doesn't look like a big damage so might buy one with that as they are bargain!!
-
Emailed them about the G3 Distinction at 2lb 8oz. One would hope it plays well as it is a fairly ugly bit of willow.
-
I've had the pics thru from them. The one with the knot looks the best of the bunch.

agree the 2'12 with the knot looks more like a g2. Had pics for the 2'8 and I was a bit underwhelmed with it tbh. Expected a slightly higher spine I guess.
-
Bet we see a few of these on eBay shortly, with no mention of being storm damaged.
-
M&H bats dont hold their Retail Value though, Probably as they are expensive to start with.
-
would M&H have known these were storm damaged trees before they made the bats?
If so that makes me less likely to trust the integrity of the rest of their full priced bats - i would expect them to use only the top willow in all their bats based on their prices and reputation

I find it strange that they would make a £400 bat out of a storm damaged piece of wood intentionally.
Maybe they have a way of tracking each bat through the cleft used - serial number or something. If they've had a few returns from that cleft it's going to give a pretty good indication the others may be damaged. I presume these would be bats that are in stock that come from that same cleft?
-
I think it's a valid question to ask. I personally think they were either practising on this wood or they were informed by the willow merchant after production. The latter is more worrying if bats have been sold, but you have to give the benefit of the doubt that they've made good on any items sold in error. Could be that a number of bats came back broken and that's how they discovered the problem..
-

Totally.
£200 for a damaged bat. Whatever next.
-
ive just picked up a leather hold all in the clearance which is a nice item for the price
just to re-interate my earlier post and what others have posted-please be very careful if you want a bat, storm damage literally could just last a couple of games(which mine did(newbery)), alternatively it could last ages.chances are thou for £200 is aint a good deal.
Don't know whether they knew at the time or when bats started to get returned, probably the latter.I did visit Salix a couple of years ago and Andrew did show me a storm damaged bat and he pointed out the markings and grain in the willow to show me-it was very slight
I would'nt of know any difference unless he had explained it at the time...
and i could'nt explain it here.
-
I just called them and I was only interested in knowing about the bags as they are sheer class in my opinion.
The Unbranded Canvas has a white leather pocket and is unbranded and everything else is same.
The Tan bag is real bargain he said it just have studs rather than railing and apart from this it is 100% exactly like regular one which they sell for 175 poundS!!
-
The problem with the tan bag is not so much the price or the quality, though I found it weird that it didn't have wheels - to have a bag that, by definition will have so much in, yet you're restricted to carrying it all the time, seems a touch cumbersome.
-
not a new M&H but waiting to how this one comes back from a refurb....should be back with me tomorrow!

-
Sapwood in the middle of the blade! Don't see that too often.
Will it come back with the same style sickers?
-
not exactly the same but pretty close from what they said...will see just how close tomorrow but it originally came from GCCC so in an import after being exported i suspect
-
did anyone get some pictures sent from M&H showing the bats up for sale?

Yes mate, Rob (d7bow) forwarded these pictures to me so all credit goes to him for these pictures;
2.8 Distinction

2.12 Distinction (In my opinion best out of three and certainly a bargain!)

Again once again thanks to Rob/d7bow for the pictures.
-
yes ive got these, they are all grade 3 bats, not storm damaged one
i didnt bother with those
-
they are uglyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
-
think its fair to say they are in the equivalent of newberys ugly bin
it's just a more expensive bin!
-
but compared with newbery when u can get a 5 star for around £130 its outragus
-
surely they would have spotted this at the grading stage before shaping them
-
dont know the answer to that, the only thing i can say is newbery pointed out storm damaged bats to me when i went to buy one years back,as well as bats with minor marks or pressing cracks on them.
And at Salix Andrew Kember showed me the same thing.I got a salix with 15 grains for £80.00 i think from memory.
the bats i saw had very small v shaped patterns to the grains.
Personally i think the storm damaged bats they are selling off are v poor value.
M and H are great bats, but I hope no one buys these cos they may well not last very long.
if they were £100 it might be a different story.....

Face of the 2-12
(http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/d7bow/bda61451.jpg)
-
that doesnt look too bad but id expect that if paying £200+ for any bat :)
-
I am quite shocked by the look of some of these!
Considering what we can get on this forum from some of the custom makers!!!
I know what I'd rather have.
-
yes that one has a knot on the back
it's £250.00 this one i got a photo yesterday....
everyone will have their own view what is or isnt an expensive bat.
i suppose it depends if you think M and H are that far ahead of everyone else
i dont personally
