the willow is storm damaged that the bats are made from so the trees may have been bent/twisted/warped that have been cut down and clefted

see my 1987 comment. Basically the willow will have a weakness caused by storm damage. You might be lucky to have a bat produced from an unaffected area of the tree but having seen lots of Hunts Reflex's snap in two, I wouldn't touch them at that price.

Storm damaged bats are a lottery but at 200 quid it's too big a gamble.

I was wondering if the double decker could fit a full size bat in. Anybody got pics of the helmets?

M&H Website very poor at discussing features of these items imho.

It definitely fits a full size bat in - I'm in the process of making a few alterations/additions and in theory creating the perfect cricket bag (for my 5 bats plus WK gear)!

I had questions on there bags and this is what they said in reply;

Quote
None of the bags are damaged, the unbranded sample is the same design with white leather flashings and no embroidered logo's, the sub-standard finish is an internal lining issue, one of the sides has not been stitched up but it does not effect the bag in anyway, the tan leather bag is as new, the rails on the bottom got damaged in transit and have been replaced with studs. I attach a picture of the pad as this is damaged.

With white flashings, I'm still confused what do they mean by that?

Sub-standard doesn't look like a big damage so might buy one with that as they are bargain!!

Emailed them about the G3 Distinction at 2lb 8oz. One would hope it plays well as it is a fairly ugly bit of willow.

I've had the pics thru from them. The one with the knot looks the best of the bunch.

agree the 2'12 with the knot looks more like a g2. Had pics for the 2'8 and I was a bit underwhelmed with it tbh. Expected a slightly higher spine I guess.

Bet we see a few of these on eBay shortly, with no mention of being storm damaged.

would M&H have known these were storm damaged trees before they made the bats?

If so that makes me less likely to trust the integrity of the rest of their full priced bats - i would expect them to use only the top willow in all their bats based on their prices and reputation

I find it strange that they would make a £400 bat out of a storm damaged piece of wood intentionally.

Maybe they have a way of tracking each bat through the cleft used - serial number or something. If they've had a few returns from that cleft it's going to give a pretty good indication the others may be damaged. I presume these would be bats that are in stock that come from that same cleft?

I think it's a valid question to ask. I personally think they were either practising on this wood or they were informed by the willow merchant after production. The latter is more worrying if bats have been sold, but you have to give the benefit of the doubt that they've made good on any items sold in error. Could be that a number of bats came back broken and that's how they discovered the problem..

Totally.

£200 for a damaged bat. Whatever next.
