Title: Ayrtek, Woodstock or Redback Gloves?
Post by: Cumbrian Pete on March 10, 2012, 01:05:35 PM
I fancy some new softs for 2012 and have narrowed it down to Ayrtek, Woodstock and Redback.  I like the clean, simplicity of the Redback softs, but both Woodstock and Ayrtek look like excellent quality.  Has anyone recently bought any of these softs?

We've got plenty in stock if u do want a set, can get them sent for delivery on Tuesday of required :)

Gloves have been really well received by everyone that has used them and pads are going strong too. My set are going into their 3rd season now and have plenty of life on them yet!

Got pinned at about 70mph on the index finger last night In my Ayrtek gloves (have pads too) and hardly felt it hit me.
Was right on the finger nail too.

Woodstock have both sausage style and shark tooth style gloves. They are both £48.60 if ordered through johnno@woodstockcricket.co.uk Both Ayrtek and Woodstock are great gloves, might just be worth going with what you think looks best or what matches with the rest of your kit :)

I have not seen Woodstock pads but if Tom did osm pads I'd still be using Ayrtek stuff as pads were awesome and lad that has them now can't believe how light they for how protective they are and I've faced some pretty sharp bowling even got hit around 80mph in softs and held up very very well

Tom, I don't know why you are emphasising the fact that you are forum sponsors. We all know Ayrtek are forum sponsors and great ones :) Please feel free to enlighten me why you put it in bold, thanks ;)

I don't need to enlighten anyone as to why I type anything as we are forum sponsors pay for the right to be and if I choose to highlight this I can do so.

Please keep on topic :)

Fair play, just thought it was a bit odd why it was in bold that's all :)

I have Ayrtek softs and they a excellent. I hate stiff gloves, and Tom's design allows for great flexibility, which in turn allows you to boff the ball harder.

They are perfect for proper batsmen, such as myself.

A Brucie endorsement is all I'd need as no more a proper batsmen in the land

Thanks for all the comments, folks, I'm sneaking towards the Ayrtek now...will check out the forum offers.

Roco...one comment I didn't understand was your wish for Tom to do pads in 'OSM', is this a size?

Yeah when I realised I needed osm pads Tom had just sold the last pair to a county player so did not have anymore and at 6FT4 (Tom) I need bigger tall person pads

He's not a lad - he's a freak of nature who lives in the woods, only coming out to knock off a quick 50, or to be photographed by American tourists!

Here he is shadow-batting, practising his forward defensive!

Hahaha top work Brucey!!

Pete how tall are you as unless ur towering over 6ft 4+ I'd think the standard men's will be ok for you. :)

I'd say 6ft2 or below would be happy with them as I used mine last season just little gap between thigh guard and lad has them now is 5ft6 or 5ft8 and loves them

I reckon it's more personal preference though, cos I'm 6'5" and use regular mens pads, and think they are fine!
Title: Re: Ayrtek, Woodstock or Redback Gloves?
Post by: roco on March 10, 2012, 03:36:30 PM
Yeah but I bet there is a gap between the top of pad and thigh guard which there should not be

So a choice of bigger thigh guards which I have or bigger pads
Title: Re: Ayrtek, Woodstock or Redback Gloves?
Post by: Nickauger on March 10, 2012, 03:40:54 PM
No because I wear my thigh guards lower and use the hip protector of my aeros as extra thigh protection (I run and hide from anything short anyway lol)
Title: Re: Ayrtek, Woodstock or Redback Gloves?
Post by: roco on March 10, 2012, 03:42:08 PM
Ah I can't wear my thigh guards low plus anything short I think whoopee runs but does not always work haha

Thanks guys...

Tom, I'm 5'10" so standard pads will be fine.  I prefer pads that 'wrap around' quite well as my current Bradbury ones sit quite wide and make running a bit more difficult.  Which pair in your range would suit those requirements best?

Also, your shark tooth gloves look excellent, but how does the sizing compare to other brands.  I've got relatively large hands for my height, would I be able to return the gloves if they were too small?

Cheers

Peter

Im not small and use osm ss gloves but ayrtek normal mens fit my mits fine so ok with larger hands I'd think
Title: Re: Ayrtek, Woodstock or Redback Gloves?

Pete

Yea not a problem in regards to pads as I'm the same height. Gloves if they are too small I'd be surprised as Roco uses the men's and doesn't have an issue whilst I use youth due to my "workers" size hands.

Any issues with any of it and can be swapped over if it doesn't fit to your satisfaction.

Cheers

Tom

On the gloves...thanks Roco and Tom, the Elite mens sounds good size wise.

On the pads...Tom, are the Elite pads the best option in terms of moulding well to the leg in a 'wrap around' way? (please see earlier post).

Yes they wrap round well if u have normal sized calf muscles etc, never had nay issue with mine rubbing together when running. They will prob need to be shaped a bit by tightening up the straps to add some curvature the them before use as they re obviously a bit rigid and flat when fresh out of the box but no one seems to have had any issue with them.

I've tried on a pair of Tom's OSM pads and they fit nicely, very light and comfortable. I also have big hands and use standard mens Ayrtek gloves. If I didn't have my Morrant pads then I would definitely go for Ayrtek, will get another pair of gloves come September too.

I've recently used redbacks, and soon to get Ayrteks. And after all the reviews I've seen I'd definately get the Elites!
