Only surprises are Batty and Croft.
-
Joe Root?
-
Only surprises are Batty and Croft.
Would've thought Moore should've been in there out of the Lancs Openers.
-
Good squad, very obvious who the 15 man squad will be. Few people left out, Stevens,Shah,Foster,Mascarenhaus maybe ?
Good to see Croft in there, had decent t20 year so far.
-
Joe Root?
Has a bad t20 record too
-
Only surprises are Batty and Croft.
Croft deserves some recognition for sure, he's a superb fielder and captained his side for the last few years. Rory HB would've been in the side surely and Adil Rashid is well and truly off the radar.

Mascheranas is an odd one...I appreciate he's quite injury prone and he's not getting any younger but his bowling and lower order hitting would have been useful and he's probably got more T20 experience than the rest of the squad combined!
-
Has a bad t20 record too
but bowls decent offies, would be able to fiddle an over or two. The kind of guy who is in the 30 for encouragement rather than to be selected...
agree in part regarding Mascarenhas, would also have liked to see Steve Parry in there ahead of Briggs but like I say, very little you can really pick on.
-

Massively unlucky but another Saffer would've been silly haha
-
Moore is nowhere near the requisite class!
-
Moore is nowhere near the requisite class!
Maybe not but weight of runs should be a factor.
-
Owais Shah?
-
Owais Shah?
He's had his chance to be honest.
I hope Luke Wright gets picked. He's been superb in the T20 - would prefer him opening to Hales.
-
Glad that gareth batty has been selected. Quality bowler and a thoroughly nice bloke to boot!
-
I hope Luke Wright gets picked. He's been superb in the T20 - would prefer him opening to Hales.
He can bowl a bit too, as well as being a quality fielder
-
Rory HB would have been in the squad if he wasn't on compassionate leave, Batty is a bit of a surprise due to how old he is however he has done well for Surrey and can bat abit.
Surprised Napier isn't in the team, a handy bowler plus he certainly knows how the give the ball a good wack.
EDIT: Luke Wright is also a very good shout, he has adapted since he was last called up for England and is a far better player.
-
Maybe not but weight of runs should be a factor.
Lets pick David Sales then.
Seriously, Moore doesn;t have THAT weight of runs behind him!
-
Ah David Sales. Such an unfortunate knee injury playing for England A at a time when he looked set to make the step up. Should be sponsored by Greggs now tho...
I agree on the Root reasoning, on reflection.
I'd have Keith Barker in that list as a left arm option. And Rikki Clarke too.
-
Josh Cobb has got to feel unlucky with that!!
-
7 players out of 30 not born in the UK is decent tho... I know them but can you name them??
-
Dernbach, Morgan, Kieswetter, Prior, Lumb, Meaker, Stokes were born outside the UK.
-
Well done
-
Nice to see Crofty in there as I've played against him a fair bit... Can't see him making the final cut though as not sure he's good enough.
Think Kerrigan's better than Parry or Briggs, though he took a fair spanking off KP the other week
-

Probably why he's been left out!
-
Probably why he's been left out!
More likely his lack of batting and fielding ability
-
Blimey...how many reserve keepers do we need?
I assume that Kieswetter will be the first choice? Then there is Davies, Prior, Bairstow and Buttler who are all more than capable of taking the gloves! I guess they are all capable purely as batsmen too though! 8)
Looks a pretty strong squad to be fair. Final 15 anyone?
-
Out of that lot, I would say Davies is the best pure keeper, but then that might just be my Surrey bias. Prior has worked hard on his keeping, but he's not a natural keeper, nor are any of the others from what I have seen
-
1 Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) (Capt)
2 Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire)
3 Ian Bell (Warwickshire)
4 Ravi Bopara (Essex)

That's personally what I would go for

15 Luke Wright (Sussex) or Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
-
It comes down to Tredwell or Briggs and Woakes or Wright, doesn't it Pete?
-
I suspet that may be the case, although sometimes one or two of the selectors seem to have brain meltdown! ;)
-
I would like to see Woakes given a chance but there is a genuine case for most of the squad to make the final 15!!
-

Likewise, he can strike a ball as well!
-
When do they announce the final squad?
-
The final squad will be cut to 15 by August 18
-
1. Alex Hales
2. Luke Wright
3. Steven Davies (W/K)

Bairstow
Buttler
Patel
Bresnan
Swann
Broad
Dernbach
Wright
Tredwell/Briggs/Borthwick
Bell/Taylor
Finn

Hales
Kieswetter
Bopara
Morgan
Bairstow
Buttler
Patel
Bresnan
Swann
Broad
Dernbach
Wright
Tredwell/Briggs/Borthwick
Bell/Taylor
Finn
Finn has been England's best bowler in the shorter forms of the game and has done far better in sub-continental conditions than all of our other bowlers(look at the way he bowled against India in India) so how could you leave him out?
I personally don't rate Bresnan in the shorter forms of the game, would rather see someone like Dernbach(providing he doesn't over-use the slower ball as he has done in the past) in as he is usually a reliable bowler towards the end of an innings.
-
Cook
Hales
Taylor
Morgan
Buttler
Davies (wk)
Patel
Woakes
Broad
Swann
Finn
Bopara
Bell
Wright
Meaker
Really can't find an 11, or even a 15, that I'd be comfortable picking! So frustrating!
-
So if Cook makes the final cut does Broad still skipper?
-

Kerrigan is not a serious T20 option though, a bettr bet for the long form of the game.
-
Amazed that only one person has picked Bresnan despite his performances int eh last winning effort!
-
Had a very quick look and im happy to see Crofty is in the squad as he is a cracking player very much on the rise, not worked out batting or bowling in regards to numbers but id go something like below.
Broad
Bell
Bopara
Butler
Hales
Morgan
Prior
Kieswetter
Anderson
Dernbach
Swann
Bresnan
Taylor
Briggs
Finn
-
Briggs in as the second spinner in my opinion. And I am in no way biased or from Hampshire ;).
-
England squad for ICC World T20: Broad Bairstow Bopara Bresnan Briggs Buttler Dernbach Finn Hales Kieswetter Lumb Morgan Patel Swann Wright.
-

Oh dear oh dear this does not look good
-
I wasn't too far off in my guess for the squad
-

Eeek....
Briggs is not the man to be our second spinner, he doesn't turn the ball!
Overall though, I suppose this is not too bad. Pietersen gone, they were always going to be an experienced batsman light, and I am really pleased that they have not jumped back to Cook or Bell. That said, I would have liked to see Woakes or Stokes in there, perhaps instead of Wright?

Agree with this.
Do you reckon they tried to name an entire squad who's surnames started with B and then ran out?
-
I would have picked Prior to provide the additional experience and as back up keeper. His form in this year's domestic T20 has been outstanding. He has scored 247 runs at an average of 49.4 and a strike rate of 199.19.
I understand that Kieswetter has done a good job, but in the absence of KP, he gives you cricketing experience.
-
Who got the closeset to the actaul sqaud, I was 3 players out, I chose Meaker, Prior and Taylor instead of Bresnan, Kieswetter and Lumb.

Seconded.
Poor shout from the ECB and I bet Prior is gutted he is to miss out!

I was 2 off as you can see above, I put Woakes and Tredwell in, instead of Briggs/Bresnan. Personally I would've preferred my team

To be fair though, neither did Michael Yardy, and he was one of the best bowlers in the last tournament. I'm amazed Woakes isn't in.....I can see why they chose Wright though. He has a lot of experience in the format now and has shown that 'on his day' (whenever that might be!) he can be as destructive as any player in the world....not sure about his bowling though...
-
Luke Wright bowled a crucial over in the last final if I remember correctly.
Got the job done.
The main thing missing from this squad is someone with the same levels of calm that Collingwood embodies.
-
Wrights batting is too hit and miss if you ask me, and i agree with the calls for Prior to be selected, they dont seem to have taken much note of this years domestic t20 form, otherwise why has Briggs been picked? like someone mentioned hes taken 4 wickets. how about Rafiq at Yorkshire? wickets and economical whilst also captaining the side, and can bat. in my opinion the majority of the side should be made up by the players with the best domestic form and records, which it currently isnt. how many games did swanna and broad play for instance?
-

very different conditions though, aren't they.
As regards Wright - I agree he can hit the balll big but I'm not sure how you get him in the side - there are better out and out batsmen, and you would not want to gamble on him bowling four overs. So are they planning to pick him, Ravi and Fat Sammy as part of a seven man bating line up and trust to four overs between them?
-
i'm not surprised, but i'm disappointed that Steven Croft hasn't been picked for the squad going out. I may be a tad biased after watching him play since he's been at Lancashire but his t20 performances have been second to non this year also an excellent fielder. You could say the same for Steven Moore even though he didn't get in the first squad, he has a quickfire 40 almost every game and sometimes goes on it really puts the fielding sides morale down.
