Having had access to lots of bats over the last 3 years it does take a lot to get me excited when it comes to another cricket bat.
For the most part, its all about function... does it welly the ball! :( :o
But i cannot help but get excited about this comedy bat as its just the cricket bat equivalent of clown shoes... Long handle, long blade and just creeping to the 3lbs 2oz mark... it actually feels ok and it was going on the wall along with a few selected specials... but i think it needs at least a net and maybe a match... i'll report back with a review and more images.

Mahoosive!!!

That looks more like a small artillery piece than a bat!

My kind of bat
A lot like my ca just bit heavier
Must be used to destroy bowling

I think there's too much temptation so i fired on a scuff and will have a net. The biggest difference is just the sheer swing weight, you do feel it in the shoulders. That said my match bat is just a smudge under 3lb and i don't get to much hassle. its just ahem down to the length! Buy it's made me rethink my own bat preference and whilst this is huge, i may start using a long handled bat. :o

Marcus - if we are having a net or two over Winter as discussed, then don't even consider leaving this bat at home!! ;)

Ha ha ha... no worries bag lad! It'll travel ;) I'll have a few others to test out too. :o
-
And we'll be only too willing to help you test them ;)
-
I'm loving my long blades but not tried a lh lb so could be fun as mine end up at 3lb or over with extra length
Sort it out hosk
-
Always wanted one of these, just not tall enough...
-
Marcus how tall are you? I am 6'3 and have always used SH bats, wondering if I should move to LB...
-
I'd reccomend it if you were not so far I'd lend you one to test

Thanks mate, might have to look for cheap used one to give it try i guess ..

Its just a preference thing, yes there is a guide. But having worked with pro and ex internationals one being 6ft 5inches they use a sh bat. It's simply that this seems to 'feel' good. I'm going to make a LH net bat and see if i get the same response. As it stand the Spartan may get an outing in the last game of the season. :o
-
I did not find much difference in swing speed but found I was more confident driving as did not have to bend so low to middle and dealing with Yorkers was a lot easier
I was tempted by one of these as it's basically match bat specs
Must resist!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Marcus - that certainly does look like an absolute beast of a bat!
Bat speed with a bat that size surely isn't important!!! Forward defensive would send the ball off into the distance!

Tushar, you are, in theory, tall enough for an LB. I am 6'5" and used to use an LH, but I found the handle really uncomfortably too long, and I couldn't get a snug grip - just fidgeted with it all the time! Since then, I have converted to SH and it feels a lot better. Took a while to get used to digging out the yorkers but it feels good now. Never tried an LB. Perhaps I should because they might suit better, but it limits your choice quite substantially, and given how you like to collect bats, this might not be the best move! 8)
-
I usually dont have a problem with yorkers or driving, full lenght deliveries are my bread and butter :)....i do find that I do sometimes feel hunched over but just assume its my poor skill instead of the bat...
I would hate the handle interefering with my already fragile and poor batting :(
-
Tushar, I'm 6'5" mate, and still find an SH perfectly adequate. Had an LHLB and I found it horrendous!
-
Nice bat mate, never knew IJC stocked spartan

Thanks Nick...btw Marcus your spartan does look a beast

Test day has come early... so i will report back on the Spartan. Also testing out a new little number i have just finished ... that said i made a new grip for the handle and dislike it already... doesn't bode well!
Report and piccies later this evening.

Very interested to hear how it goes

Well back in and knackered... I left the Spartan until last as i still had work to do.. not sure it was the right thing to do given the weight not i have added 2 and half extra grips and we are nearing 3lbs 6oz.
First impressions, quality of the bat....its ok. i'd never pay for one and its hard to justify the price tag it carries but it is comically big. For those out there that like to wield a big bit of wood... there is nothing more impressive than this bat for sheer "look at the bloomin size of that" factor.
Second impressions... it actually surprised me, yeah its heavy but i found even when tired i could manipulate the bat. yes i used a lot more bottom hand in balancing certain shots but as a player of the V it suited me to the point of where if i'm down the order and need runs quick i'd happily reach for this. You could not play an inning with this bat without serious gym work... i faced 100 balls with this bat and was physically broken at the end of it... yes i had face 400 before with my own bats that i was testing but all the same at the end of each stink i didn't hurt with this i could barely lift my arms... its a gym session and batting freakshow all in one! One thing of note though is the balance, no other bat this weight would i dare attempt reverse shots... its very compliant and I was able to reverse not with ease but with great effect.
Performance, in short epic but in comparison to bats i had made to test along with one "control" bat from the UK's OEM go to guy it wasn't a leap and if you scaled the others up i'm sure they would be just as devastating.
If you get given one, net with it, use it if you want but really if like this its CG spec... mount it on the wall.
Yes i will be using it for the presidents cup next weekend but after that it joins the collection of those special bats that are on show...but christ do they go!
1st Impression 9/10 Its massive, its just massive... i mean really massive...did i say that it was massive!?
Performance 8/10 You don't really need to time a shot. Its weight & the long handle mean if you connect... its in the bush!
Looks 7/10 Its bold, it's brash it suits the scale of the bat... not my cup of java but its relevant to the bat.
Quality 6/10 Massive willow is rarely pretty, couple that with a few grip issues and adhesive problems then it could do with a little more tlc when finishing the bat.
Round up... this is by far and away the best go hard or go home bat i have ever picked up... it is usable.. just, unlike the Master which i could barely time a shot with and other large (3lbs plus bats) for that its worth a swing just not what i'd recommend that goes in a kit bag for a serious game.

Yeah I hear!!
In comparison to the bat tested today at only 2:10 i was pretty happy that i could hit within reason a better line but maybe not quite as far. Once im done on this i'll get some sloggin footage up of the Spartan.
My concept bat... no can caving, no compromise on edges just an effective bat. It seemed to work quite well. ;)

Yeah, i have had a shocker this year and a wrecked right ankle is causing me bother!!
But I had bats to test and thought i'd combing the two... get some work done and have someone sort me out... all i have to do is hit the bal!
-
For Roco... i apologise for poor form and all that.... I am not built for finesse and this bat doesnt help... but the bat will make a bat off!
SLOGG AHOY! >:( :D

Not bad but agree with the coach key to a heavy bat is an early back lift but looks a beast just a shame that's going on a wall not destroying bowling attacks like it should be

Back down to the light bats ;)
I love a big stick me
Not sure I could justify the spartan price tag but I'm sure when you tore of it you'd be open to trade bribery blackmail or fading that crying
