Well back in and knackered... I left the Spartan until last as i still had work to do.. not sure it was the right thing to do given the weight not i have added 2 and half extra grips and we are nearing 3lbs 6oz.
First impressions, quality of the bat....its ok. i'd never pay for one and its hard to justify the price tag it carries but it is comically big. For those out there that like to wield a big bit of wood... there is nothing more impressive than this bat for sheer "look at the bloomin size of that" factor.
Second impressions... it actually surprised me, yeah its heavy but i found even when tired i could manipulate the bat. yes i used a lot more bottom hand in balancing certain shots but as a player of the V it suited me to the point of where if i'm down the order and need runs quick i'd happily reach for this. You could not play an inning with this bat without serious gym work... i faced 100 balls with this bat and was physically broken at the end of it... yes i had face 400 before with my own bats that i was testing but all the same at the end of each stink i didn't hurt with this i could barely lift my arms... its a gym session and batting freakshow all in one! One thing of note though is the balance, no other bat this weight would i dare attempt reverse shots... its very compliant and I was able to reverse not with ease but with great effect.
Performance, in short epic but in comparison to bats i had made to test along with one "control" bat from the UK's OEM go to guy it wasn't a leap and if you scaled the others up i'm sure they would be just as devastating.
If you get given one, net with it, use it if you want but really if like this its CG spec... mount it on the wall.
Yes i will be using it for the presidents cup next weekend but after that it joins the collection of those special bats that are on show...but christ do they go!
1st Impression 9/10 Its massive, its just massive... i mean really massive...did i say that it was massive!?
Performance 8/10 You don't really need to time a shot. Its weight & the long handle mean if you connect... its in the bush!
Looks 7/10 Its bold, it's brash it suits the scale of the bat... not my cup of java but its relevant to the bat.
Quality 6/10 Massive willow is rarely pretty, couple that with a few grip issues and adhesive problems then it could do with a little more tlc when finishing the bat.
Round up... this is by far and away the best go hard or go home bat i have ever picked up... it is usable.. just, unlike the Master which i could barely time a shot with and other large (3lbs plus bats) for that its worth a swing just not what i'd recommend that goes in a kit bag for a serious game.
