As the title says, which one do you prefer?
I have tried loads of gloves and at end I prefer split ones. Here is why;
- They fit well (snuggy fit)
- Flexible
- Lighter
How about you?
-
I am a fan of sausage gloves . I prefer them as they stop me from having a strong bottom hand grip. I haven't sadly evolved from the traditional sausage design to the new light weight ones as I feel the split modern gloves albeit lighter are a bit chunky.
-
Used to always be a fan of the traditional sausage.
But after getting some bradbury players gloves, I have officially been swayed, also the vulcan splits are extremely comfortable, as well as the ayrteks :)
So I'm not leaning towards the split gloves :)

You mean you are leaning towards split?

I meant now haha, I haven't a clue how I put not instead!

Was always a split man but have seen the light of sausage

Actually I find sausage to be chunky and heavier, that being said it also makes pickup tad lighter, ever noticed this?

Haha no worries pal :)

This man goes through more pair of gloves than shoes in a year! ;)

As said before

i find the splits more flexible but for me its all about the palms .... not keen on those pittards one, the leather is too thin for me.
As i like puma gloves i have to say i favour split gloves

Heavier definitely like the traditional pads but compact, what i meant by chunky was taking more space ( cannot think of appropriate word ). Agree with you it sort of helps the pick up feel lighter.
-
Wouldn't split finger style be a no brainer? They are more flexible and lighter, I especially love the shark tooth type.
-
Splits everyday

Hmm actually cougar pittard seem to be quite thick

SAUSAGES!!
-
Erm, I'm only on my second pair ever! Wore my vintage Mitre sausage style gloves in my first game, they felt ok but looked a bit 'dry' so I looked for some new gloves and bought a snazzy pair of splits. Both styles fine in respect of 'feel' but the splits look a bit more cutting edge and modern.
-
I currently use a really good pair of sausages, but sometimes find I lose grip with my top hand and feel like i can't get enough pressure on the handle and I know it's not the grip.
Do people find you can get a stronger grip in splits?!
-
Another vote for splits, & agree with Garrett: Palms just as important
-
I'd never been a fan of sausage style gloves until I bought a pair of Buzz's GM Original LE gloves just recently. They're much softer than previous sausage gloves I've used and as a result it's led me to think that maybe, if you want sausage gloves, you need to spend that little bit more money on them. An expensive pair of sausage gloves can be nearly as flexible and soft as the split style gloves. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a convert, but it has made me take sausage gloves in to consideration whereas before I just dismissed them.
-
I am big fan of spilt one but have been using Sausage style one from Blenheim and they feel very nice to bat with. I am a very bottom handed bat to having a slightly rigid glove means I am not choking the handle all the time.
Anyone ever tried using sausage on RH and spilt on LH? especially if you are too bottom hand heavy?
-
Splits so far
haven't tried sausage one, don't feel like trying those :)
-
i have used both and cant say i favour one or the other. Im having one of each design made for Red Ink so will try both when they arrive.

I wouldn't term GM Original LE as sausage as bottom hand has split fingers, so they are some where in between.
I really like those in split/sausage, I love the way they fit and clung onto my hand.
Top gloves as you said.

I find easier to grip with top hand when it comes to split because in sausage you need to exert extra force, the primary force of exertion is for 'bending' the gloves and then secondary to hold onto the handle. With split primary one is marginal.
Hope I made sense
-
I find very little difference between the two, it is about finding gloves that fit and ensuring that they are nicely worn in (see the GM LE gloves I sold!)
What is more important is having lucky gloves...

Top gloves as you said.
They are sausage gloves, just with a split added protection ontop of the main bit.
-
Split everyday!
-
If someone came up with split glove on the top hand or atleast the ring finger and little finger alongwith sausage for the rest would help with both grip and protection.
-
What a great phrasing for the question - but a little bit personal!
I prefer Split, i dont find Sausage flexible enough
-
I prefer split.... Not a big fan off sausage ;)
-
I Have only ever used split as sausage never seemed as flexible, am consideing ordering a pair though as a test run. Any recommendations?
-
Split for me, especially gloves with the index and little finger having 2 splits and the middle two just one split. I find it offers the best for comfort and in my opinion most aesthetically pleasing.

Haha, I thought I was the only one that felt like this? I used sausage fingers (along with leather strapped and metal buckled pads - still got the scars from the chafing) in my youth and so the split gloves will always be the space-age modern technical superwave. Along with velcro strapped pads!
-
split,nice and flexi
-
I'm coming round to the idea of sausage gloves, always worn splits, but recent offerings are starting to sway me.
SS Max Powers, Kook Recoil 900's and a few others are nicely pre curved, and a lot of the top end gloves are flexible enough for me to consider them.
Split finger was always my choice previously because of the flexibility and the light weight nature of the gloves.
However, I'm trying to play a lot straighter, with my top hand being really dominant, to the point where I'm holding the handle with just my thumb, forefinger and middle finger on my bottom hand. Sausage finger gloves promote this because they are less flexible, so my natural instincts to grasp the handle like a fat kid gripping a hot dog are suppressed.
-
When playing around with gloves in a shop or whatever I always think that Modern/split gloves are nicer and offer a better feel - but once sausage gloves are worn in a bit, I don't think you can beat them. They offer great protection and it's almost as if your fingers have moulded the shape of the glove to give a nice fit.

At this time of year, sausage gloves are especially stiff. We stick our demo pairs on the radiator for a few minutes before someone tries them on!

That's a nice touch! Certainly would aid the sale of the gloves as they are stiff, especially in this weather.

I have Vulcan sausage gloves, which were very rigid to start off with, and took quite a bit of time to wear into shape. But once they do mold into shape, they feel really nice! I wonder if there is a way to re-palm gloves, as even if I do have to spend around 50% of the initial cost of the gloves to do so, it is well worth it as they have already taken the natural shape of your hands when you grip the bat, and they just feel really comfortable. I guess there are some flexible sausage gloves, but they tend to have poor protection. I quite like the idea of split gloves, but I have only worn 1 pair which felt comfortable, and those were the Vantage Players ones. I think most of the other ones I tried just felt too bulky in the hands, while the sausage ones feel a good size, and not too bulky. Just take a little time to wear in! :)

I'm with you Dan - I was using vintage slazenger buckskin pads with leather and metal straps and buckles too in that game - course I've had to go out and get some modern velcro pads as well...
-
I am all about the sausage.
Split just feel strange for me.
-
I'll use either, as long as they're comfy enough. Currently using sausage and they're very nice, and quite flexible!

Can honestly say I've never even tried a pair if splits before. Although I havn't played for a while.
But since being on the forum Im very tempted to try a pair of splits, thats what my son prefers an all.
Liking the look of the ayrtek elites.
-
I now prefer Split fingers,
I had a few versions of gunn and moore and also gray nic's in fingers and whilst they were ok i wasn't always 100 per cent happy,
But now i've got some Ayrtek Elites and they are the best gloves i've ever had if your ibnto splits u need a set
end off

I grew up using sausages, but when I came back to cricket last year they had gone slightly dry (as someone previously mentioned).
So I went to my local shop and pretty much tried on every pair there (sausage & split).
I ended up with the Newbery Thruxton gloves - split style (shark tooth?).
very comfy and fit my hands perfectly. I've been belted on my hands plenty of times as well (I ain't that good!) and never feel a thing.

Something like this? They are awesomely comfy as well!

Good find, can't read it very well, what model are these? I like them!

Split. But the Tendulkar style BAS sausage fingers are extremely comfortable.
-
Think I prefer split finger. More flexible.
I've heard wilkie loves sausage!! :D

Definitely split. Looks a lot better and more flexible I find.

I've been converted to the slit, I mean split

I've been converted to the slit, I mean split
So your saying you like both? :o
-
I would never use Sausages, I can only ever remember using splits. I wouldn't even consider looking at sausages let alone trying them on, I guess I'm a bit Sausage phobic.
-
i currently play with split and find them comfy and nice to play with but haven't worn sausage for many seasons so it must just be a habit thing. i do prefer the look of split so i that basis i choose split
-
I too have the GN Maverick Elites and they are very comfy once you get them shaped, took me 2 or 3 weeks of squashing them to get them to bend enough. Wheni first wore them I actually got hand ache from having to squeeze my hand harder to grip the bat harder.
And the best part about these gloves were I got the free from Vitas Cricket in a competition :D :D
-
I haven't found a huge problem with either, I quite like both, The flexibility is not something i mind too much, though i would like a couple nets with sausage gloves first.
So, I like both, i like the flexibility of the splits, but i like the added protection (and confident!) of sausage
-
Sausage - I like the way they're pre shaped and to me they just feel like they have more protection. Possibly not th case but as we all know, being completely happy with your gear enables you to concentrate fully on batting.
I tried a pair of Salix split a couple of years ago. I really didn't like the way they were flat pre-use and were very squeaky! Would put me off when batting.
I've got two pairs of Kook Ice gloves, going to purchase the Bubble, Impulse and B3 gloves over the winter - I know I'll be 100% happy with all of them.
-
Have always been a fan of the splits.
Last year used 2 x Puma calibre 5000 and was very happy.
Ordered a pair of the Newbery GT sausage from sports direct sale last week. Thought was worth a try for £17, still prefer the splits though
-
Love both but split gloves are my current favorites. I believe (rightly or wrongly) that the splits offer more freedom of movement.
I have a pile of gloves, but currently love the SS Gladiator gloves, as well as my RNS Unik gloves.
