Title: the Too Many Bats thread.
Post by: Buzz on December 13, 2012, 06:15:39 PM
This is the:
help I have too many bats thread.

As far as I can tell no one on here is immune. Everyone has far too many bats to be able to use. (except Pete. Pete can never have too many bats.)

it is a symptom if being on the forum for more than 2 weeks.

I have 3 match bats and other surplus willow dotted around my house.

Realistically I can't use one bat at the moment.

So the questions are.
How do you choose which bat you use in a match.
How do you overcome the doubts (if only I had that other bat...)

We all know there are a stupid amount of barely knocked in bats floating around, so finally how can we treat our bats more like Sachin and Michael Clarke who will use a bat even when it is being held together by glue and a scuff sheet...?

Since joining this forum I have already aquired 2 bats in the space of a month :S my match bat is for me the one that feels the best in my hands, before a match or training session I take all my bats but take the one that feels the best to me at the time, of course I have a bat that performes the best, a very light bat, a heavy one etc it just depends what mood I'm in :')

I am currently at 6 with 3 more in the air  :-[

Only 1 (RPC) is guranteed use and others get their chance in nets or one-off games if they impress me in the nets. I used to have a strict rotation policy till last season but RPC put an end to that...

I have had this problem before the forum, just the forum was a platform to make this problem reach ridiculous heights. :P

I usually take 2 or 3 bats to a match. If the weather is bad, etc, I normally use the bat with the most protection, ie scuffed and shoe-goo'd toe. On a sunny day though, I just get throw downs with the bats I have with me, and which ever I feel I'm playing okay with, I'll go with. :)

Normally I can't blame the bat for the way I get out, but occasionally, when I get out beaten for pace, I do often wonder, if only I used the lighter one... (Of course, if I'm using the lightest one, then it gives me an excuse to go and buy another bat because it isn't working... ;)) But in all seriousness, I overcome the doubt by just accepting it was a poor shot. It doesn't look pretty when I go and take a rage, but the way I look at it is if I rage at myself for 10 minutes, then in that 10 minutes, I have saved myself that urge to buy another bat. :D

I wish I could use my bats till they looked like this... http://www.espncricinfo.com/south-africa-v-india-2010/content/image/495341.html?object=463148;page=1

I think the reason I'm stuck in this vicious cycle of owning more than enough bats to kit out a team with a match and net bat

Good question buzz

I have since 2008 nay used 3 bats in matches although. Have owned around 30 I suspect.

I got my laver and used it for ever only time I changed was when another bat challenged but I. The end I went back.

I even loaned it out as I thought it was past it.

It has had 2 new shoulders put on it the toe fixed the lamitoe broken out of it yet still is my best bat all others are measured by.

It died last season but I tempted to get try and get it fixed.

I have bought a few bats recently but still not found a replacement for it.

It not so much the greatness of the bat just te feel of it.

So far I still on the search for the match bat currently got around 10 bats here some outstanding but still feel I have not found the one

I have 7, 2 I've made myself since being here, a hunts that I've had forever, a GN that I've had for a while, a GM I got last Xmas, and a B52 I got off rematch.  Luckily my wallet is empty most of the time to prevent me buying more!

'Hello my name is Ed and I've got too many guitars'

I don't have too many bats because I've been buying guitars recently. I shall however now switch my attention to bats.

A man cannot have too many guitars of bats.

I had two bats last season, and tended to chop and change quite a bit throughout the season.  Somehow they have multiplied and I will have four bats, I have an idea which will be my main/match bat, but until I get my hands on it I won't know!

To think when I joined the forum I had a Kashmir willow woodworm, and my bag and softs were from he Old Man's company, I now have none of that kit left!

I have bought and got rid of so many bats, it's scary, but realistically i have two that i really rate and used last summer. I should just sell of the others really as they aren't getting a look in. But then i also have a bag in the attic full of 20 year olds, including a couple gms, a couple of hunts and a gn. These are special though!

Does still mean i have 7 at the moment, although softs aren't such an issue...

I use what I feel like on a given day (and depending on where I'm playing - CS games, its always gonna be the Distinction because its lighter and spine-heavy, Vine Lane the big beast, away games the Hattori or Black Cat...

Only 3 now mate that are "mine" as such.

One match bat, one net bat and one lammy. Culled it down from the 11 I had at one point to 7 and now just the 3 :)

Paying for a wedding will do that to a man :(

I have 23, few are to be posted soon whereas few are expected to come. So figure will remain the same...

In February I decided that I will stick to one bat till last day of my season and I was successful in doing this. I just struck with Screaming Cat and ensured I played with it every time.

For me it worked other way around, if I changed the bat I would not be able to bat as the feel of other bat would not be spot on, it won't be like Screaming Cat so that sat in my mind, hence, nothing else allured me.

When season ends, then I use the "rotation policy," which is simple for me. Its where I use one bat for 4-6 weeks before moving onto another one.

I like you Ed, we shall talk guitars!

I currently have more guitars than usable bats, and I have two guitars. Finally found a bat I don't want to break or replace so want to keep hold of it for as long as possible!

Most I've ever owned is 9, then I trimmed the fat a little, either through giving away bats that were still usable or finally retiring trusty old faithfuls that would cower in the corner at the mere mention of going back in my vice for some more repairs.

Currently i have 4 bats, with the possible addition of 1 more.

My Powerbow Strauss LE is my saturday match bat, and probably will be for as long as I can keep it alive.

My Bellingham & Smith Supreme I tend to use Sundays.

My Vitas Cricket Lion Roar is my wet weather/friendly cricket weapon. Mainly used to bunt filth over the ropes, or to protect my delicate blades when it's wet.

My new Laver Reserve, well, I haven't decided yet!

Looking maybe to add a Slazenger V6 as I really like the pro tour softs. However i can't really justify getting another top end bat, so the V12 is not something I'm considering. The V12's I have in stock are beautiful though, tempting!!!

I've currently got three usables and an old retired newbery excalibur.

Pro Grade 2-6 used last season but due to weather etc. I think it still needs some more playing in. Decent performer - but...

Salix Pod Performance 2-7 total bargain from the IJC Olympic sale. Knocked in but still needs to be netted with to get it played in. Most impressive bat I've ever tapped up - I'm expecting great things if only I can get bat on ball. Not much more that I can say about Salix - the reputation is hugely deserved if this example is any measure.

Ninja Assassin 2-9 ok creeping up in weight but I wanted to see if I could handle a bat in the 'popular' weight range. Another bargain thanks to this site. Great pick up, a flat face (didn't realise that when I bought it but it will be nice to see if it makes any sort of difference) and from an outstanding bat maker. Needs to be fully knocked in and netted with, but I want it scuff sheeted etc. first. Haven't even applied the mallet to it yet, but a few raps with the knuckles produced an encouraging response.

That's me done!

I'm determined to get down to 1 for the season, plus my first H4l which has been the only bat i've used in the past 2 seasons - Would never sell a bat i scored a 150 with!

Have 2 new bats at the moment in my Redback and B52. Not sure which to go with or maybe even get something else lol

Since joking the forum I have amased the following for next season

H4l Hattori 5star brand new
Newbery GT Cadbury brand new
Gray Nicolls Dynadrive brand new
Gray NIcolls Maverick brand new
Gray Nicolls Powerbow brand new
Salix AJK Ltd edition brand new
Salix Falx grade 1 brand new
Salix Falx performance brand new
Dukes Legend brand new
M&H Solution brand new

As well as this I have 4 new pairs of gloves from Salix and Gray Nicolls as well as matching pads. Really need to stop but I really fancy an A61 as well may sell a Laver to fund it.
