Time to start a new thread.
Dhawan looking quite good, or SA looking a bit undercooked?
-
SA's bowlers haven't really found their length yet. India do look in good nick though...
Dhawan got a nasty knock on the head from McLaren didn't he? I didn't see the speed gun but it looked to me like that was a seriously quick bouncer....
-
Proteas have got the team selection wrong.
Chris Morris should've been in the squad.
We've selected too many medium pacers Kleinveldt, Tsotsobe and McLaren(who's doubling up as the all rounder).
Morris is a proper fast bowler.
The chap Dhawan looks impressive though, and moreso as he's doing in away from India.
-
It did look quick, it wasn't very well played though. Eyes lit up, but I'm with Gerry, I don't think their bowling is strong at all. Not sure of the ins and outs of SA cricket now but why no Big Vern, and is Steyn injured?

I was 136kph mate, it straightened into his head!
McLaren now pins Kolhi

Steyn's got a side strain mate.
Philander has got concerns over his back, so he's being saved for the Test series against India in December-January.
-
This is getting beyond a joke now.
Whilst Indians struggle with the short ball
Dhawan Rohit Sharma and Kohli have shown in the passed they can hook/pull
Guys like Raina, Gambhir, Yuvraj are the most clueless against short bowling, guess what two aren't playing and Raina's still waiting in the hut...
-
Gotta give the Indians some credit here as well though
Removing all the OAPs, they seem a lot more agile and mobile. Taking quick singles, 1s into 2s etc.
The change is mindset in refreshing.

Out for the full tournament or just being rested as a precaution. Vern is for me right up ther as 'possibly' the joint 2nd best seam bowler in world cricket right now. Love watching him play, and normally love watching SA play. This tournamnet though I think the batsmen will have to bail them out big time. I hope Miller and ABDV come good, two of the best batsmen in world cricket to watch. Right up there with Morgan, Buttler, Dhoni, McCullum, and some bloke called Gayle as the most destructive batsmen in world cricket.

Would love to see England using Buttler a bit earlier and watch him go big for 7-10 overs instead of 4-5. Should be a good tournament but I reckon Pak will win!
Pakistan's batting is too weak IMO
West Indies could be the team to beat. Guys like Gayle, Sarwan and the Bravos. Narine could be their gamebreaker
-
I don't know mate, these pitches are turning a bit, and I don't think any target will be too small to defend if Ajmal gets going! Batting is definitely brittle, but they're more often than not there or therabouts though in big tournaments!
-

I think other sides may just sit on Ajmal though
Junaid Khan is a good young bowler and the giant guy Mohammad Irfan.
They're a shout, but I think they can easily get rolled for under 100
-
Yeap very true. I think WI are a good shout also, they've got guys that can change a game from 1-11, with bat and ball. Probably have a shout at being the best fielding unit as well. Would like to see the Kiwi's doing well after the runaround they gave England in the ODI's. Would be good for them to have some success.
My 4 for the semis: WI, IND, NZ, PAK

I think Australia are good dark horses
They know how to win these ICC 50 overs competitions
-
Very dark horses haha. They've got to learn how to win games first lol but I take your point. Will probably beat England after all!
-
Well played Dhawan, Tests/ODIs makes no difference to the guy
-
Eek, that missed stumping is going to irk you quite a bit Gerry... Dhawan might make a few more than 100 now...
-
Bumble is tipping WI or Pak.
I took his advice and bet on each of them to win it at 9/1 also took out what could be a very nice earner at 40/1 on a WI v Pak final.
-

It was a gimme as well >:(
Maybe ABDV wants to keep Dhoni in the hut :D

See Gerry, I told you Pakistan would do well lol ;) Bumble agrees with me at least
-
Right pack the bags lads
Morkel joins Steyn on the injury list...
400 looking on for India now...
-
Oh dear me! Welcome back to the world of being a fan of an average cricket team again lol
-
Oh dear me! Welcome back to the world of being a fan of an average cricket team again lol
We've got from being very good
To Zimbabwe inside 34 overs :(
Tsotsobe bags Kohli though, the collapse is on ;)
-
Absolutely terrible death bowling by Tsotsobe leaking runs like a sieve
Tsotsobe is a one spell bowler, useless if he can't bowl 6-9 overs up front
-
i picked tsotsobe in my fantasy team as i thought he would pick up wickets. at the toss, they were saying its going to seam around in cold conditions. and i dropped dhawan and got morkel in as well. not a good day for me so far. hope du plessis and ab get some runs with the bat
-

Rohit Sharma answered some questions as well! If this Indian side fire there arent many teams that can compete, the way they recovered from 55/5 to get 300 against the aussies was pretty special, can't see many other teams doing that.
-
Gee Amla's footwork certainly let him down there... Gooonnneee
-

the bowling is still a question mark. they would need to put up 330+ every game to have a chance
-
SA cruising atm 6-7rpo. looking quite easy. Left pace on too long
-
the bowling is still a question mark. they would need to put up 330+ every game to have a chance
Very true, against everyone bar a Clarkeless Australia side it would seem...
-
So what about that catch from Chris Gayle? Pakistan playing woefully; two players to reach double figures and both have half centuries (in a total of 9/138 so far).
-
funny as most of our colts have bunked school to go and watch!
-
It could have been much worse too as Misbah was dropped by the keeper for 0!! (It was an absolute sitter as well) Great opening spell from Roach though.....always rated him.
-
And he's gone and made more than half their bloody total. Unlucky to be stranded on 96.
-
Wahab Riaz is bowling serious wheels!!!! 93.8 mph at Pollards nose... well bowled!
-
Pollard playing a test match here! SR of 5.55!
-
No Swann today for England. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
Bopara in! Yet another chance for him. I just think he is one of those bits and pieces cricketers that we used to select and it never works.
In other news, I'm not a fan of Australia and never will be but I'm very impressed with how stand in skipper George Baily comes across. Seems a decent bloke.
-
why is bopara picked ahead of samit patel? is it the weight/fitness issues??
-
I think the real issue is why have you asked that question lol? Neither should be anywhere near the England set-up, and the fact that they are even mentioned as possibilities is a real problem for English cricket! Bopara can bowl though and field, Patel is fat, lazy, can't field, and his bowling is at best woeful! Also just as crap with the bat!
-
Why aren't England using this as an opportunity to play James Taylor, Bairstow, Compton and other younger players. A competitive opportunity for these players to play and try and push for an ashes place.
Also, what has Johnson done to his hair?
-
Not having Swann is not much of a loss. Tredwell has been playing some outstanding cricket for England over the last 12 months. If he'd been left out I feel he would have been a bit unlucky and more down to the fact the selectors will pick Swann first whatever.
-

there dont seem to be too many options for england in ODIs specifically at that slot. they need someone who can score quickly as well as bowl 6-7 quiet overs. do you have anyone else in mind? and please dont mention that test team probables.
-
McCullum using a new puma bat?
-
vettori moved to sf?? slazenger have lost quite a few players recently
-
whats with so many low scoring matches!!! T20 effect? or just too many T20 players paying 50 over format?
-
I think that had a lot to do with the malinga effect! Unreal spell in any format!
-
Darren Sammy has given the West Indies a chance here. India have a good line up but at least they have some sort of score. Ishant Sharma's last over was terrible.
-
With the lineup India have, they should chase this down comfortably!!!but you never know with the way teams have been playing this CT...so many low scores and yet teams unable to chase it down...
-
Was at the game, noticed the Indians had taken a trip to GM. Lots of GM gear whilst warming up
-

They never use it in a match...
-
They never use it in a match...
Wouldn't be surprised if they had their shapes CNC'd and stickered up their bats with the sponsor's guff as usual. Kohli has used GM in the past whilst in England.
-
hmmm..they don't do that often though. Mostly they stick to Indian brands, maybe because they get stuffs for free and made to their spec. Example Dhoni uses Ton, RNS, SF etc bats with Reebok sticker.
-
Nz vs Aust, any update on the weather, they are saying it will likely be a washout.
-
Nz vs England, any update on the weather, they are saying it will likely be a washout.
The forecast looks like play during the day may be possible, but also looks like rain between 5pm and 8pm... High run rate at the start of the innings may be the critical factor...
-
They're starting on time at least. Lets hope its a good game!
-
some really nice games in the next couple of days...India vs Pak , Aus vs NZ..cant wait!!!
-
Australia are making hard work of this tournament. Terrible start at 10-2, with Watson and Hughes already back in the hut!
-
Bailey and Voges rebuilding well here, nothing flashy and a lesson in how to stall the momentum of the Kiwis by simple cricket.
-
Voges is a good cricketer; batting well at the moment, and has performed more often than not for Australia. But I've always had a soft spot for him because his old man was my maths teacher for half a year in year 8, and we used to talk cricket.

Of German origin too - like many Aussie cricketers.
-
Was watching the aussies bowl. Find it odd that Mckay and Doherty grunting every ball.
Does that not count as distracting the batsman?
Won't be long before someone takes it up.
-
sri lanka keep dropping joe root, more than dave warner managed
(thanks to gary lineker on twitter for that)
-
Carnage last over from Ravi Bop, what a way to end the innings!
-
Great end from Ravi, just what he and England needed. Should be a good total thanks to that last over!
-
still thinking it's England's to lose
-
still thinking it's England's to lose
And Broad has just lost us the game. Woeful bowling, length balls to a dirty slogger, fair play to Kulasekara but the length's are all wrong.
-
#batted
-
Fully deserved win for Sri Lanka. Also nice to see a team being a bit adventurous and moving Kulasekara up the order to bat in the powerplay. Can you imagine England doing that with a Butler or a Morgan in the same position? It would never happen...... ;)
-
Hoping there are a few more Bopara converts out there now.. He seems a better proposition than Morgan and Buttler today in this format of the game and it might come down to run rate in the end.....
-

Bopara is competing for a place with woakes and a second spinner not the keeper and a no.5 batsman. We all know what Ravi is capable of and it's a boring topic, if he can string some good performances over a long period then brilliant but let's remember what has happened in the past please.
-
Sorry but England's team selection has to be questioned.
Broad in the last 3 years has taken 30 odd wickets at nearly 40 a piece. The economy is also nearing 6rpo.
Bresnan's stats shows his bowling isn't threatening. He averages over 36 per wicket. That's not exactly a match winning statistic.
If Trott misses out in Cardiff, then England should play 5 bowlers. One which has to be Tredwell.

Agree with everything bar dropping Trott. He's our leading run scorer! Tredwell has to play.

Trott hurt his thigh?
Thought I heard Hussein or Artherton say he was a major doubt for Cardiff.
-

He's not talking about dropping Trott - he had a clear thigh strain so will probably miss the match.... Big loss to your batting.
-
Apologies Gerry, makes more sense... :-[
-
Bresnan has never been a match winner, he is certainly not as good as before his shoulder problems too.
I don't know why Finn's not playing, isn't he number 3 in the rankings or something?
Ravi, good player, needs to prove it consistently.
Just lacking a couple of aggressive players which would make a big difference.
-

I think it was just a case of some outstanding players from SL putting their hand up yesterday.
-
It was a pretty flat deck and possibly the batters should of targeted 300+. That said I thought broad/bres bowled like drains, too short and too much legside. Funny as it may seem, sometimes line and length still does the trick. Can't help thinking Finn was the man to bowl on that track, he would of got more out of it than any other bowler.
-
Finn's exclusion is a bit weird. Is it because Broad/Bresnan can bat a bit also?
-

I think too many talented bowlers in the England squad :o . I still cant belive they were not able to defend 293 yesterday.

What batting from Sangakara...beautifully placed innings...
Hey another thing I noticed is that the shots make a beautiful crunching sound in the Champions Trophy..even when they defend the ball...is it more to with some fancy better stump mic or just better bats?
-

I think Cook summed it up perfectly when he said some days you just have to hold your hands up and say well batted. Yesterday was one of those days. Going to be a little bit controversial here, and I don't care, but for me Sangakarra is the best player ever to play the game! EVER!!!! One of the few batsman that I would pay to watch.
-
Weather update for NZ vs Eng today please, reports are that a full game will be doubtful.
-
Anyone in Cardiff, any updates on the weather?
Will we see any play today?
-
So there's play in Cardiff, 24 overs a side.
What are England's chance with Cook and Trott in the top 3 in a reduced match?
And as I type bell is gone, cracking catch!
-
Well my prediction of England not making it past the group stage was wrong...
How much were they paying the umpire for them not to call Broad's no ball??
Put a fiver on India before the tournament started which is still looking a good shout :)

In my opinion his heel was just behind the line you could see it at point of impact .......
-
I agree! India are a great shout!
Their bowlers may not be the strongest but they are bowling pretty well at the moment!
And there are some batsmen who are in some seriously excellent form!
I hope England play SA in the semis, as Indian batting looks awesome :o
-
Great start for England! SA 4-2 Ingram and Amla gone and the ball doing a bit.......lovely bit of bowling from Jimmy A to get rid of Ingram too.....I kind of wanted to see a bit of Amla though but every cloud!
-
Jimmy, jimmy, jimmy, Anderson!!!
I want Faf to get a good score but the rest can sodd off and I smell blood!
Come on England
http://youtu.be/AMT698ArSfQ (http://youtu.be/AMT698ArSfQ)
-
65/5
*choke*
-
I was the same Pedals....I was looking forward to seeing Amla and AB bat, as they are high class and on form!
But I won't complain as it would be nice to see England do well!!
Not sure that anyone will beat India at the moment though, as their batsmen look in incredible form!
-
Was hoping this would go the distance, get to see us bat when I get home from work.
Highlights it is then...
-
Tredwell has got it on a string at the moment.
-
Du Plessis gone as well - 70 for 6!
Someone needs to step up for SA with the bat or it'll all be over quickly!
-
76 for 7! What are SA doing!! That was a crazy attempt at coming down the wicket with 30 overs left! :o
-
SA are batting like muppets! England are bowling well but this isn't a 76-7 pitch.... Cough.... Chokers.... Cough!

Just saw that last 10 ODIs between Eng and SA. England won 7, SA 3 and 1 no result. So England have a good recent record, but I have never seen SA look this disorganised!
England are bowling well and fielding well, but they're doing themselves no favours with the bat! It's as if they haven't got a batting plan at all...almost to the point of being casual!!
I am shocked at the moment...
-
BLIMEY! 80 for 8! But to be fair, that was a decent ball from Tredders!
-
80-8 now!
-
123-8 now, lets get to 200 boys !!!
-
Fair play to these two, Miller looking every inch the class player he is.
-
159-8 now, highest partnership SA have ever had for this wicket :D
-
Yet again Broad the weak link in the bowling attack - he makes me cross!!!! >:(
-
Noooo :(
-
Noooo :(
They didn't deserve a decent score! With the exception of Miller, they batted poorly.
If England had of done the same when batting, then I would be saying that they were lucky to even make 175.
-
No, they didn't, but if Peterson had stayed in there may have been a chance :) annoys me though, I hope we come out firing !
-
Sam got to many. Cook to scared to go for the jugular,
Root will see us home though.
-
Where is gerrysa not like him to be so quiet about his proteas
How good is Jonathan Trott
-
Where is gerrysa not like him to be so quiet about his proteas

It was great listening to the TMS team telling tales of trott as a pup in the nets bowling long hops thinking he was white lightening!
Still, not as sweet as watching Trott stick one over the Saffers!
-
Thought Buttler kept well and tredwell bowled very well.
Trott should be called eveready
-
Where is gerrysa not like him to be so quiet about his proteas

Wasn't really much to say.
Batted like clowns.
AB's dismissal, for Proteas joint best player along with Amla(Kallis and Smith absent) was downright stupidity.
Mclaren was clearly so happy to see his pal Tredwell again, the ran out of his crease and let Trott run him out.
And as I said before you can keep Trott.
-
And as I said before you can keep Trott.
Nah, we'll trade you for AB or Amla :)
-
Nah, we'll trade you for AB or Amla :)
No deal!!!

Out of interest, can anyone explain why this Dhawan chap was behind Gambhir for so long?
Dhawan looks a great find and unlike Gambhir has shown in the CT13 he can play in foreign conditions.
-

Dhawan was behind Kohli as well. He did have an opportunity few years ago but didn't do as well and then had a bad run with injuries etc. In the mean time Kohli, Raina, Rahane, Pujara made it even more difficult to secure a place. I hope he continues his form and run, I still think it is early days.
-
Was at Edgbaston watching India vs Pakistan and never seen so much excitement for a dead rubber of a match. The whole atmosphere was electrifying for most of the day.
-
No deal!!!
You can have Broad too... #nextfreedieflintoffapparantly
-
Waiting for tomorrow :) Expecting an exciting match between India and England. Both equally talented teams in for the battle.
-
Definately the right teams in the final for me, home team vs the form team. The conditions will play a part as will the toss. If Jimmy knocks over the top 3 then India will be tested. Dhawan is the most exciting opening batsmen ive seen since Viru and Gilly and doesnt to care who he is facing. Bowlers will suss him out eventually but not before he has hammered most teams and laid a good platform. England have been searching for years for a destructive opener and anyone and everyone has had a bash. Trescothick came closest to fitting this and its a damm shame he cant play.
I think that Trott and Cook have and should always play ODIs as they have the best tempraments of any top class batsmen playing today. Nodody will win a 50over tournament without 2 highly dependable batsmen that can bat all the way through IMO.
Looking forward to a cracking final tommorow and I wish I wasnt playing myself.
-
Bresnan on for Finn. Arrrrrrrrrgh!! Oh for .... sake why?
-
Sounding like a lengthy delay, who's great organising didn't allow for a rain day.............in england?!
-
Should've had the final at the Oval....the home of cricket[apart from Durban naturally :-)]
-
Hoping so that there will be at-least a T20 :-[
-
even a T10 will do
-
A quickfire t5 worst case scenario hahaha
Butler and root open the batting :-[
-
Thats good. Hearing a commentary from Nasser Hussain that the clouds are almost clear. So a T20 game is on.
-
Awfull feeling in my stomach india might win this now :(
-
To be fair, as we don't have our full t20 team playing you'd expect India to win. If England do manage it then it would ask a lot of questions of our current setup...

I jusy dont agree with cook and trott been down there should be bell and root who open.
But here comes rhe rain again
-
Now I even feel Finland is better in summers for playing cricket :-[
-
Its a damn shame because I know yorkshire and nyswlf in newcaslte have had a nice day all day
-
Thats good. Hearing a commentary from Nasser Hussain that the clouds are almost clear. So a T20 game is on.
I saw him saying that and I was thinking, c'on Nasser...you don't really think there will be no more rain. Could see he has been told by bosses to keep the viewers interested. Or may it's just my mind playing tricks.

India have been conditioning and training for 50 overs game as well so I don't think any team has the advantage, who ever plays well, gets the cup. Agree Indians have more T20 experience but they didn't come today with that mindset and it won't be that easy to just switch on and off. If anything India will be risking being overconfidence.
-

Yeah. As you said, it could be true. Heard that there were many heavy advertisement sponsors for the match. So making the viewers holding onto the game has to be done.
-
What a shambles
-
1 over to go, pretty dreadful batting from England - throwing it away at the moment. Also poor cricket from India, Sharma bowling wides and then jadeja standing in front of the stumps and missing a run out.
-
I cant watch :o
-
:( :( :( speechless
-
Poor fielding cost us there and comedy running oh well
-
That was embarrassing batting.. it was going well, then pressure cracked them like an egg (also good bowling from the spinners).
-
Awesome game. Enjoyed every bit of it. Never seen MSD expressing like this in his career. Well played England. Hard luck.
-
Poor game only lifted by some great keeping fair play to Dhoni
-
We only let ourselves down in my view but then to be honest non of us expected a 20 20 match
-

Poor???? It was nail biting to the very last ball. Who would have expected this with all the rain.
-
We only let ourselves down in my view but then to be honest non of us expected a 20 20 match
Don't think the guys were playing in 20 20 mode
-
In the competition overall I think the best team won but I can't help thinking that England blew that! We should have chased down 129 easily.....

Far from poor I just think as england fans its hit us hard to be honest we were all a bit cocky and thought it was in the bag me been one of them
-
It really didn't help that Ian Bell was unfairly given out when, to me, he was home safe.
-
cant believe how the third umpire gave bell out. that might have cost england the match. and then morgan and bopara gifted it to india after playing so well. bopara will really be heartbroken after his performance today.
-
Far from poor I just think as england fans its hit us hard to be honest we were all a bit cocky and thought it was in the bag me been one of them
As a England fan i did find it poor.
The best side won but to roll there top order and restrict them to 129 we should have really won that but instead we looked like something out of fawlty towers....
Bopara played well but what was he going on about the running i thought Bell was out to be honest....
I just think we blew a massive chance there against a top top limited overs side...
For once nobody can knock MSD keepeing he was on the ball and though Jadeja Bowled very well...
In my youth i played a game called Lemmings it reminded me of that at the end
-
Can I ask something a few months back for our team we played jesmond and they had a player who said the ball was above head height when he hit it and they got a no ball however when ravi did that all they said was he shouldnt of hit it whats the reasoning who's rite who's wrong
Thanks guys

Congrats to India.
They join an elite group of holding the ICC 50 over World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and ODI number 1 ranked side.
India join Ponting's all destroying Australian dream team.
Dhoni has won every major honour. Pretty inpressive for a player that a most Indians hated only 6 years ago.
-
It really didn't help that Ian Bell was unfairly given out when, to me, he was home safe.
It will hurt for a long time. Bell was probably half expecting Dhoni to call him back to bat like last year.

Dhoni...hated?
He made his entrance with an impressive ton and immediately joined the ranks of explosive keeper/batters like Gilchrist. I have been following Indian cricket for a very long time and Dhoni was never hated. People doubted him couple of years ago after failures in England but it was more the team and never him personally.

Dhoni is the onlt true gent in the Indian team I think the rest are all arrogant ....... and like the palmist stated dhoni had the true sportsmanship to recall bell a few years back

Can I ask something a few months back for our team we played jesmond and they had a player who said the ball was above head height when he hit it and they got a no ball however when ravi did that all they said was he shouldnt of hit it whats the reasoning who's rite who's wrong
Thanks guys
Beefy has just explained it. Had it left it, it would have been a wide and not a no ball. So because he hit it, it wasn't a wide anymore and therefore Bopara was out.
-
Buttler has escaped criticism too what a great first ball shot showed his temperament i think he is fine for 20 over cricket but not 50 unless we stick with him like we did with Prior a few years ago.
But as a England fan lets be positive we got beat by the best limited overs side in the world and there the best by quite a distance i think but we did ok...

Thanks for that ! I wondered why bopara made a fuss but nothing happend

How about phil mustard as odi keeper ? Or is that me just talking silly
-
Not much wrong with England side Still like the thought of KP coming in and maybe Bairstow as keeper but time will tell hope Buttler get his head down and uses his obvious talent .

Having the winning mentality pulled India through that as they know how to win the shorter format and England dont. England had no right to lose that, it was a done deal but inexperience and not knowing how to win cost them.
It doesnt get more comprehensive with Dhawan and Jadeja winning the main honours as well and im not talking about the moustaches. ;)
India look a class team and im amazed how they quick the transformation has been.
Beating the Aussies will not be as comfortable as England think but they will pull through as they know how to win Test matches.

Very good assessment mate i think your last part is spot on it is not going to be a walkover against Australia

Absolutely. MSD is one among the best sportsmen with good spirit and heart.

It was falling apart with Dhoni not so long ago so who knows. Kohli and Sharma have shown leadership potential, their styles may be different to MSD but again who knows. A captain is only as good as his team and vice versa.

Kohli must be due to take over captaincy ?

There is no one with even half a chance of taking over apart from Kohli surley

This will be true as of today but who knows what tomorrow holds. Gambhir was running for Captaincy at one stage as well. But you are right having captained the international under 19 and Royal Challengers in IPL, Kohli will be an obvious choice. MSD will probably carry on till next world cup at least.

India were under pressure for 95% of the match after setting a low target and having to defend it yet kept their heads. England were under pressure for 5% in the crucial last 3 overs and bottled it.
-
OH. MY. GOD. seriously, what have I just witnessed? granted India played well, or Jadeja and Ashwin bowled well and MSD saved his side, BUT...what were england playing at? they were total rubbish, whether it be cook guiding the ball to first slip, or jos buttler trying to leather his first ball through midwicket on middle and off. We need to take a long hard look at our side, especially before the ashes. I think Bell was given out very unfairly, however everyone else gave it to them. We were a total shambles, and this is epitomised by the tim bresnan run out...wow. Ultimately where we lost was morgan and bopara giving their wickets away when they were our last proper batsman, however, we should not have been in that position in the first place, our top order should have functioned. As said before, the only pressure we were under was the last 3 overs, where we should have walked it at 20 from 16, but then came the two wickets, and cue the choking.
Well done India and MSD in particular.

Really? We made the final and nearly beat the world champions who glided through the rest of the tournament completely unopposed. Poor performance from tge batters but hardly the end of the world!
-
Completely bottled it, ah well theres always next time.. Oh wait.
Do people reckon the ICC world test championship will be a success?
-
20 overs a side playing into India's hands as they would of required very few tweaks. England would not be playing Cook/Trott for starters and our t20 team would of been very different. If this tournament was worth anything to anyone they would of had a spare day. Rather get smashed by India over 50 overs and say fair enough than play a cobbled together t20. Then again if we had won it... ;)
-

May be. Ganguly had a hold on the squad. He was respected very much and all his decisions were believed by the team members. Now the same happens to dhoni. I would say he is the successor of Ganguly.

That sounds interesting. May be there could be a year round test match tournament, but where is the time for it? If time allows it, I hope it had been started. Also, hearing about considering 50 over cricket as 1st innings (25 - 25) - 2nd innings (25 -25) i doubt if ICC is having any idea on this.

The ICC test world championship has been in the offing for ages. It was supposed to start this year, but thanks to TV rights, the Champions Trophy has a last hurrah.
There's not a massive amount of point in a "T2x Test". It's essentially the same as a a single 50 over innings, with the proviso that you have more opportunity to bat if you cock it up first time around. I'm not sure what impact it would have on spectator numbers.
-
Apparently the world test championship is now due to start in 2017, and will last a few years. Wonder what theyll do if theres a draw in the knockout stages
-
I reckon a 4 day format would work really well for the test championship. Combine that with lively pitches and I think it'll be every bit as exciting as the shorter tournaments.

yeah, but since T20 is gathering more number of spectators i hope they were thinking of it (or may be the person who started the rumor thought of it)

T20 has growing audiences because it lasts a couple of hours. If people don't want to spend the time watching a 40 over game, why would they turn up to a 2X20 over game? I can't imagine they would?
-
It 'kinda' felt like Bell was out to me cos I could see the bail move just a wee bit(admittedly miniscule) in the frame where his foot was not yet on the ground. When Holding got furious with the decision my first thought was he is getting old and needs better glasses. But now that there's been such a hue and cry it's come to my attention that bail needs to be completely dislodged from the groove for it to be out. Is that the case?? There's a reason why I believed that only part of the bail needs to move for a batsman to be out - whenever the third umpire was called in for a run out, the 'moment of judgement', so to speak was invariably one end of the bail coming off or even sticking out a little. Its been like this for the last few years at least and especially so once we got them super slo mos. In the past it would have made sense for the entire bail to come off because the umpires could not have judged the exact moment at which the bail starts moving but that ain't the case now. Has some kind of discrepancy crept into how we interpret the rule because of the technology? Can someone clarify?
-
The rule is still when at least one bail is completely removed from the stumps. So, in bells case, if his foot were grounded before a bail is completely removed, then he should be not out as the wicket is not down until the bails are completely removed,.... Discuss?
-
Ah. So he was not out for sure then! Nothing left to discuss there I'm afraid. Huge blunder by the third umpire, him being paid to do this and all. But like I said before the people controlling the super slo mos keep doing it wrong then. The moment where one bail comes off completely must be the fulcrum from which they go to and fro.
-

Let's not forget the 3'rd umpire was a Aussie.
-
Wasn't out but still he could have managed better expression while walking off.

Hmmm, may be true, but still the idea was mainly making one day cricket interesting. So two T20 innings might grip the audience more than a single 50 over game.
-
Then its not one day cricket anymore is it? Its a 2 chance t20 game!
-

Is cricket a sport or a movie ?? Do we really need to make it interesting ?? Than we should also add a romantic angle, a action sequence so that people can rush to watch the sport. I am not against T20 or any format but the reasoning given, I don't agree with. But anytime, a true Cricket lover will love to watch a Cricket not a movie. These days due to this approach we will soon be forced to change the basics and make it more sort of a WWF entertainment.

Nice and a valid answer. Every cricket lover likes test cricket. But due to this popular T20 thingy, everything is getting worse. Right from the skill to getting a contract to play rich cash leagues. Anytime, as u said cricket should not be boring for a cricket lover.
-
T20 encourages those who have never watched cricket to do so.
50 overs allows them to get drawn in to the longer formats.
Test cricket fulfils them when they can't get enough of the other two...
