Title: Mid Season Review
Post by: uknsaunders on June 28, 2013, 10:00:24 AM
Coming to the end of June and it would be interesting to hear players stats and assessments of how the season has gone so far. Also interesting to see how the bats have performed and what objectives everybody has for the second half of the season. Who's going to kick off?

Well, I've moved to a new club and been made 4th XI skipper (Noone else wanted to do it) .  I started off the first couple of games at the top of the order and didn't really make any runs, since dropping down to 4, I've been consistently scoring 20s and 30s without really going on to make a big score (Mainly because I keep getting myself out!).  Still looking for my first ever 50, so that's the aim for the rest of the season.

Year   Games Inns   NO   Runs   High   Avg   50   100   4s   6s   Ducks   %Team Runs

2013   5       5    1    104    42*   26    0    0    0    0    0    11.8

(I play Sunday 3rd/4th team cricket) Well only played 5 games, after coming back into cricket in the last 2 years I have not hit higher than 27 until this year. My average has been in single figure and I have always been batting from 5-down.

This year after work in the nets the batting has got better, but I have to be settled to play some shots. I was asked to open the batting in the first game and have come in at 3-4 since. This has allowed me to have time at the crease and support a more shot playing batsman while Im at the other end. My SR is around 50 or less.  For me this is so far a good season of cricket and as soon as I stop my early overs cross batting I will hopefully be able to improve on this next year.

So not the best, but a massive improvement for myself.

Also have to agree with this. My 42* was may best chance to date after feeling set in my 30's, but still hit the winning runs so I can't complain too much.

Also good luck for the rest of the season the 50 will come.

I'm only playing Sundays this season and it's been going really well with the bat but fairly poorly with the ball. As a few of you will know I killed my Chase in winter nets so Pete stepped up and offered me an enormous 2.9 TK Pro that had been his match bat the previous year. It's gone well! 40+mm edges, no concaving, big middle, it's nice and light and the pickup is great. I'm averaging 46 this season which is my best for a few years so I'm pretty happy. Bowling, usually my strong suit, has gone a bit wrong. I'm a SLA bowler but all I seem to be doing is bowling arm balls these days. Good arm balls, but the spin I have always relied upon seems to have disappeared a bit. I can still turn the ball but just not as much as I used to. I think breaking my left wrist in the winter is probably part of the problem.....2 wickets all season and I have been the top wicket taker for my club for the last 3 seasons....!

Overall I'm pretty happy with the batting and a bit disappointed with the bowling. Just a shame the weather is so awful yet again....makes it hard to get into any rhythm.

Top score :- 78* best bowling 2-29 (in my 6th game!)

My highest score was 43* chasing 75 a couple of years ago.  I was about 35* when we were on 50 and told the kid at the other end to let me get the runs as I'd never scored a 50.  Little git proceeded to pinch the strike and score most of the rest of the runs.  Wasn't happy!

I tend to get into the 20s, 30s feeling set and that the bowling can't get me out, then play a stupid shot or get one of those magic balls that you can't do anything about!

Same to you bud.  I have good memoies of the ground I'm playing at tomorrow, so hopefully can get some luck there!

My stats so far this season;

Matches   Innings   Runs   Balls (ish)   4's   6's
11           9              102        107          14            3

Average      12.75
Strike Rate ~      95.3271028
High Score      30

Last season I got 9 innings in total (in 10 matches) because of the rain.  I scored 59 runs at a ave of approx 6 - so I've improved to some degree.

Roughly 72% of my runs come in boundarys... :-[
I normally come in ~6, but have been 3 to 9 as well.
This is only my 2nd year back after a 15yr hiatus so I'm enjoying it.  Playing 2nds level for my village

I'm only playing Sunday's at the moment - and with the exception of our tour (scores don't count due to excessive boozing) I've got the following:

5 inns 1 no    135 runs    84 highest   33.75 ave

The 84 was one of my best knocks for sometime, going in at 4-2, which rapidly became 8-3. We ended up on 213 off our 35 which we would have taken after the first couple of overs! Stick in the fact one dismissal was a suicidal run out and the other given C&B off a blatant bump ball I've been quite happy so far...

But somehow I've taken 12 wickets at 11.71, including my first 5 for since 2003. A reinvention!

average so far for me. scored around 600 runs in total across 18 innings. top score of 68. 4 50s and far too many starts (30s and 40s) that havent been converted.

was vice captain of our ones but now captain as the original skipper stood down. So much hard work as people want to pick and choose where they play and throw a strop if you need a 2s player to come up - none of the 2s want to play in the ones. ridiculous set up at present. will be a struggle for the rest of the season with the potential of just a single side on both saturdays and sundays  for next year if things continue how they are.

as a team we have started very slowly struggling to get the right results. narrowly missed promotion last 2 years but down lower half of the table this year. 2 wins in 2 weeks as skipper and we are moving up but far from safe. consolidation this year i feel!

For my club, 650 runs at 54 with two tons, for the civil service side 700 ish at a tad over 70 with three tons.  Which means I've scored nearly as many runs as I've dropped catches!

Not sure what my plans for the second half of the season are going to be like though as I managed a triple dislocation and double fracture of my right pinkie in a T20 on Wednesday so surgery looms!!! :(

Has Simmy stopped scoring runs yet?????

slowwed down a little bit! last 2 games only managed a 14 and a 20 :(

but ive stopped counting my collect game scores now and just concentrating on my 1st team runs

which looks something like ....

Player      Inns   Runs   Avg   NO*   Bwld   Ct   LBW   R/O   Stmp
Simon Ward 11   447     44.7  1     2       6         1        0        1

we are half way through the season next week

so that leaves me about another 11 games to get just over 500 runs to hit 1000 1 st team runs but i dont think ill do it.

included all forms of the game ill get 1000 easy i think

Averaging 27 at the moment which is about what I normally end up with.
Have been opening the batting all year and seem to either get a fifty or nothing at all so I think I need to focus more early on against the new ball in the second half of the season as when I get through the first few overs I've tended to do ok.

Good topic Nick.

Another chance to ruminate and dwell on my failings.

It's been my worst season for a long time. I know why, two reasons.
1) I changed my bat weight way too radically. Went from 2lb 9 to a Gayle'esque 3lb.
2) Including a 'back and across' trigger has caused me to get pinned all to often.

It's bizarre, we netted from late November, never netted so much. I felt a million bucks when I walked out for the first game and it's been plummeting downhill since.

I'm looking at a mid-season crisis. Should I tear it all up, buy another couple of new bats at my lifetime weight of 2lb 9oz, and hope I can rescue what remains of my season. Or, should I swing from the hip and shrug my shoulders?

Still, I've just secured a major investor for a start-up I've been developing so all can't be bad.

I've done ok so far: - League stats 207 runs @25.9 and 53-158-8 @ 19.9 isn't too bad either. Like a few more wickets but the target was 300 runs and I'm doing ok. Overall including friendlies/t20 - I have 487 runs @ 28.64, 18 wickets @ 20 . Biggest problem I have is staying fit - lower back is doing well but Achilles not great. Like to take full advantage of some of the poor balls, my runs don't reflect the amount of time I've batted. Just need a bit more luck with the ball, bowled plenty of good balls but not many edges going to hand. Bat wise the Ayrtek is doing the business with the Icon a reliable second for the harder decks, not really used the Tempo much.

stick with what you know. No point having a big bat if you can't use it. My match bat is a twig like 2'7 (albeit with 40mm edges!). The heavier bats get a go for t20 or certain situations (slogging/t20), but my proper innings operating weight is up to 2'10 max, and that's dependent on pickup.

Struggled a touch this season when captaining the 2's. Constant struggles to get players on the park and then under pressure knowing that there's only around 3/4 players likely to score any runs meant I was too intense and not enjoying it. Still getting 20/30's but not kicking on like I had in the past. Owing to a few first teamers being away I got a chance there a couple of weeks ago and have loved every minute of it. I've since resigned the captaincy and am hoping to establish myself as the number 6 in the first team.

Captaincy is proving to be a burden for me too, getting 11 is a constant pain in the ass.
My batting is going well though I have bottled 2 opportunities to get that illusive ton so far this year.
Other than that, I have began keeping wicket again, I really enjoy it, i seem to get better and better, though not after a night out- Then I'm pretty ordinary!

I have a Talisamn T20, so of a similar ilk. It's my main match bat- so so good, no concaving long handle short blade- Just got it back from a mid season tidy up and she looks brand new!

Me so far this season in total

Games 18
Inns 18
Not out 2
Runs 408
High 60
Avg 25.5
Fifties 3
Centuries 0
Fours 39
Sixes 8
Not outs 0
Strike rate 102.94

Been unfit to bowl all year, and only bowled once, was selected for league rep side as a bowler on that one game! Which is a tad random IMO

Just did a proper tally (yeah I really have nothing to do today) and so far am on 1399 at 59 for the season.  The question will be whether the finger will heal in time for that to go upward.

12 matches, 8 innings, 61 runs at 20.33, 5 not outs. Had one go at 5 and the rest of the season at 8-9, I've found out that when I go in earlier I hit the field too much but if I go in later I can play it to the deep fielders for singles. I'm not a big enough hitter to go over the top either. Bowling, 98.4-22-274-20, ave 13.7, S/R 29.61, econ 2.78. Bowled better than that, should have had about 30 but for fielding/lack of luck/beating the edge too much. Fielding has been decent enough but dropped a few too many for my liking!

My Tempo is a heavy cleft so taking wood off isn't the best option.
I'm going to bite the bullet and stump up for a new bat. Going back to my career weight. An expensive experiment, still it's been an education.

After tomorrow's game we will be exactly half way through the season and my stats don't look all that impressive.

63 overs bowled, 295 runs conceded(4.68 rpo) with 10 wickets at an average of 29.5(I think you could have worked that out for yourselves though..)

I've taken more wickets than anybody else at the club and am joint highest on number of catches taken. However one 2nd team bowler has taken 8 wickets for the loss of just 92 runs and as there is only one bowling trophy for both the 1st and 2nd team it looks like I'm not going to win it unless by a miracle he fails to get to the minimum of 15 wickets to be in the running for the trophy.

Regardless, the aim is to stay up and we are currently mid table so the team is doing well which is the main thing.

I've still not come out of retirement, but my 12 year old has so far had a good season.
He's been playing under 12's in the hertfordshire league and under 13's in the cambs league.
And even had an outing in the Sunday 2nds.
So far he's had 26 innings, 13 not outs, scored 543 runs at an average of 41.77.
I bought him two new bats at the start of the season 1 was custom made by Tony at hunts county and the other was made by Gary at choice. So far the only one he's used is the choice willow one, I've got to say the county one still feels a little hard.
As for the rest of the season, not many youth matches left. Got a few area games during the holidays and possibly some games for the 4th eleven. Not sure what his target is but knowing what he's like it'll be something around 1000 Mark. I had originally set him a target of 400 for the season.  :)
