Title: Best playing trousers
Post by: iand123 on March 05, 2014, 07:32:17 AM
Our club does club kit for everything other than trousers. Picked up some North gear ones last year on eBay cheap and they were good but probably a bit big and baggy. What does everyone else recommend or suggest to avoid?

I've nearly always used GN and Slaz trousers. Never had a problem with them. Comfortable enough and gives everything plenty of capacity to breathe.

Our club ones are shocking - way too thin and tapered leg means very narrow at the ankle - too short as well.

I play midweek T20 and have a pair of Canterbury ones - great fit (not too baggy or too narrow) very comfortable and hard wearing.  Had them about 5 years and no rips, tears or wear.  GGreat trousers and I've never had to think about replacing them, or wanted to...

I was going to say north gear, but I'm a fatty so baggyness isn't an issue for me  ;)
Got a GM pair from sports direct this year so all my kit matches  :-[

Nikes trousers are very comfy. For the smaller gentlemen there are loads of pairs on eBay for around £14. And when I say smaller I mean XS and below...

Not only does he press 10,000 bats a year he presses 10,000 pairs of trousers as well.

I wonder if he double presses, hard presses, soft presses or does his own special pressing on these trousers .......... and how long it takes for these trousers to open up?

The addidas ones are incredible!!!

Lightweight, comfortable in rain, blazing sun or freezing british summers.

Very hard wearing, have sustained many dives and showing no signs of wear.

I have tried a few and GM [cheaper ones] and Slaz are rubbish. Infact the same can be said for lower end Kooks.

Nike ones were best by far even after 20 washes. I think I paid equivalent to £15 2 years ago.

Asics don't currently offer playing or team wear in the UK.

Adidas & Nike are the best trousers we stock, with a good word for the GN Velocity which i think are very nice indeed.

Canterbury trousers are quality. Silky smooth yet robust. You can get them in batting, fielding or bowling options.

I got the bowling option, new for 20 quid inc postage on ebay.

Are the Adidas ones still the white colour and not the traditional "cream" colour?

North gear - I'm an XL but their XL seemed huge and very baggy hence why I want to get something new

Hi Jake (or anyone else that might know!) what is the difference between the different Nike trousers please?

Game day in the past had some blue piping I think, although having checked them (after telling fasteddie they had piping, good thing he went for Adidas!) they don't seem to anymore.

I think the main difference is the game day trousers have a mesh vent in the 'bum' area whereas the club ones don't.

North Face clothing must have the most generous l sizing ever, if you're an Xl normally you would be a Medium in Northface. It's better than a diet, I've dropped two clothing sizes overnight!

This made good reading for me last night.

My new club has all Adidas team wear this season and I was a little apprehensive of it all at first. It's a bit flash to get mud and grass stains on  :( Price was a bit of a jaw dropper as well for what I normally pay out in club kit. Saying that if something is worth the £££ I don't normally mind paying it. Usually tend to drop on pairs of Kook or GN from the season just gone in the sales and pay about £10-£15 MAX and they have always served me well. Especially the Kook stuff! Last year we had Surridge team wear and although the leisure stuff was top notch and the tops and jumpers were decent, the trousers were bloody awful. Very scratchy and thin. Ruined after about 5 games fielding at cover / point.

I have had kook, slazenger, gm, newbury.

All disentegrate during the season, and are quite useless towards the end off it. But then I do buy cheap, whatever is less than a fiver in and off season sales.

Got some more sports direct specials for next year........

Oh yeah. its an absolute must!!

And a good slide and pick up makes you look awesome in the field. everyone knows it. If you can do that you are class. You can see the batters discussing it after each over. 'Damn that guy slides, we wont be able to sneak 2/3 from him, we will have to try and score somewhere else'

Same if someone has the old canon arm with ZERO accuracy going on. 'Damn, he has a big arm, we had better stop running when he picks the ball up. And look how dirty his trousers are, he DEFINITELY slides a lot'

I should know, I've made my career from utilising those 'skills'

My wife told me to buy a new pair! The Nikes lasted 1 season of falling over (sliding for the over 40's), extensive rubbing around my bottom (team shiner), and sitting around (out early and chuntering).

My wife actually lets me buy stuff. Guitars, pedals, watches, but she TOLD me to buy more cricket kit.

Now you know why I married her!

Or there's the unneccessary roll!  As the ball reaches you bend doen, pick up, roll over the shoulder, come up on one knee and take aim with a throw.  Looks proper hollywood!

Don't forget when someone skies one, to not move close enough to it so that you can attempt a 1 handed leap/diving catch

or there's always the late back paddle for a ball over your head. Late reaction and engage reverse gear. Then you can action the backwards lateral and take the catch behind you, one handed, at full stretch, and look like an absolute hero when the batsman is still running his scratchy top edge 3 while you walk in showing him the ball

That my technique for skyers, mis judge, realise you've run in too far, start running backwards, take a one handed catch behind your head that can only be described as a Worldie. Because standing still because they've picked you out perfectly is just too simple!  :D

or..... standing still can look good. You just have to be Uber casual with it. Look up once..... plant feet, look at batsman, give the poor sucker a quick wink ;) Flop an hand out and snaffle the catch without breaking eye contact. Easy. My skipper calls that one the 'If you ever drop one of those doing that I will DROP you' catch.

The adidas ones seem to have specific sizes rather than m/l/xl does anyone know if they need the leg length altering or are they pretty much ok without? I reckon I'll need some new ones for this year after losing a bit of weight but I'm pretty useless when it comes to sewing so I'm hoping the 34 waist will be ok for me without having to alter them (I'm 6'3).

The pair of Adidas ones I have are already hemmed as they have a zip up the ankle and half way up the calf.

The 34 waist are comfortable for a 32 inch leg.
