They are bloody massive - and are rather spuriosly claimed to be training aids - I am faintly tempted to get one just for a hooley around in the nets!
(Disclaimer - Mods, this is posted for it's novelty value, not to promote the seller in any way)

You can't beat a "jerk free performance" haha
-
Definately wouldn't be 'jerk-free performance' if I was on the other end of the handle :)
-
i like the fact they are described as heavy duty
-
I was expecting ripe plums...

For 45 pound you cant go wrong

Never seen the point in these. Would much rather spend £45 on a middling bat that's to the weight of my
Match bat than fall apart trying to wield that.
-
At least we now know that SM stands for super monster...

I have match bats that are only a few oz of that.
Id need a 4lb one for it to have its apparent effect. I presume that means you cant make one john?
Fyi ms dhoni uses a 4lb plus one in the nets. And weve all seen how far and easily he can hit sixes!
Not saying it works, but doesnt seem to have a detrimental effect on his game.

The pic mike hussey tweeted in last years ipl when he found dhonis net bay.

Bruce, they're *lighter* than one of my match bats!

I second that. One of my teammates had a bat with around 50mm edges and I couldn't find any balance with that. IMHO these can be used only for slogging.
-
But if you got it in the middle of that bad boy..... Wallop!
-
I saw a Slazenger on ebay with 60 or 70 mm edges. Just wonderig, with the ever growing popularity of T20's would cricket be played like baseball in the future? Gotta feel sorry for the bowlers.

Think that may break Hussey's scales if he tried to weigh that bad boy. Might be a tad over 2.8 and a half though!!!
-
To be fair, they are bloody cheap bearing in mind you only need about three of them to build a house.

ooooooohhhhh! IT HAS ARRIVED!!

And there I was, knowing Fattus, expecting to see pictures of these:

I'm sorry but does no-one face any bowlers with genuine pace who bowl aggressively anymore?
I can bench my own weight, so I am no slouch, but if I tried to hook 80mph with one of those, it would be into me before I got it out of the backlift!
I have a few bats at 2lb13oz but any heavier and I would be in trouble... or am I on my own here? :-[
As Fattus says, comedy value - great. Adding anything to the glorious game of cricket? *Insert Family Fortunes wrong answer sound here*
FYI, MS Dhoni, Robin Uttuapa et al, spend significant time in the gym coupled with power hitting.
If you speak to/watch the England team, they spend a lot more time on flexibility and core stability as well as endurance training.
I would argue this has a bigger effect on hitting 'prowess' than the size of ones bat.
-
It's huge considering the bat next to it has a 40 mm edge I think it's going to cause some damage :D

You'd struggle to play a swinging or seaming ball at 65mph with one of these... Let alone anything short... Don't need 80mph to get out when they are this big and heavy!
-
This bat seems along the same lines as the CJI Sumo/Trojan, though you can use them as match bats as well (as they are not lams). I wonder if there is a growing market for bats like these with more T-20 cricket being played.

With T20, the demand should be for lighter, but big bats (Low density willow). Possibly butterfly as to not break a really nice G1.
With heavier, not bigger (just to clear that up), comes the inherent timing problem (Weight to power ratios' etc.)
-
i dont get this 20-20 bat thing, i have never seen Hussey, AB De Villiers or Virat Kohli turning up with one.
Just play proper cricket shots using a proper bat.

Why do I think your eyes are lighting up at the prospect? ;)
-
If I saw that i'd be convinced it was a LAM!
Might as well cut a section of tree into 6 pieces, sand down and add a handle.
Fattus, can we expect a video of you netting with this anytime soon?

I think you may be taking the whole thread a little too seriously.
I don't face any bowlers of express pace, and if i did, I wouldn't use this. I certainly wouldn't attempt a hook a pull or even a cut with one of these. I'm not interested in how much people can bench-press, and how flexible the pro's are. This is purely a bit of fun for me and my club-mates. As for me, I play my cricket for fun.
I, and the manufacturers are not trying to promote these as serious pieces of kit I'm sure - they are what they are, rather silly and a bit of fun to experiment with.
Read your post again, it sounds a bit angry (I'm sure unintentionally) - I don't think anyone is starting a forum campaign towards 'megabats'! :D

Why? One bat weighing 2lb 9oz will hit the ball the same distance as any other. It just looks bigger, but has no impact on performance.

I look forward to some "experimentation" in the Barn...

Ohh what a gem that would be! Lots of furios attempts to drive stuff, and running away from anything back of a length! (Actually, that sounds like one of my normal nets!)
-

That is true. The heavier weight will lead to a loss of bat speed at some point (which will vary from player to player) and have a negative impact on you ability to strike the ball far and time it.
I was wondering though whether the average club player looks at something like this and thinks they can become a six hitting machine overnight.
-
Anyway, the point is Fattus, what does that bad boy weigh in at? I'll be honest I think it's huge fun (did you see what I did there?). ;)

Anyone would thing you were angling for that....

I see it as way to build up your upper arms and to just have a very good laugh in the nets I am sure it will have a lot off people wanting to have a hit with it .could be used on tour that would tech you to drop a catch or get a duck :D

Yeah - for tour you either have to use the big biffer or the mongoose.... You get to choose!

Sounds like a great i would add a size 5 in to the occasion

Coming soon - The Butterfly Brabazon! :D :D :D :D :D
-
I will try to post pictures these evening of the 'Monger' - part Mongoose, part Joker.
Some members will not approve I'm sure :)
-
I think you should call it the king bat - as in: 'look at that "king bat!' :D
-
It would be fabulous just to walk out with that tree trunk in a game... just once to see the opposition players' faces.
Mark up your guard... do a bit of gardening and then have the 12th man run out your proper bat

Disagree completely. You seem to be trying to disprove a few physics theories with that statement.
Next youll be telling us a wrecking ball could be replaced with a balloon and do the same damage(exagerated point)

I think what he meant was that a two bats of the same weight will hit the ball the same distance regardless of if one was a bit bigger due to being made of lower density willow. At least that is how I read it. Goes back to the low density vs higher density willow argument.

Exactly that. Lower density willow doesn't make the ball travel further when hit.

Well if so i apoligise. Lol.
But
That starts a different argument. As a low density cleft means you can move the extra wood about to help pick up and in theory produce a larger sweet spot.

Isn't there a theory that the pressing makes a bat perform, not the shape??
(Or did I dream that thread)

Not really. There are some basic physics that define the sweet spot and you can adjust those with shape regardless of the amount of wood you have.

I'd like to see that information if you have a link to it?

BTW guys, the SM solider plus is a laminate with 'between 8mm and 10mm' piece of wood stuck on the face.
Would this be deemed a performance lam?
-
It has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's bloody massive!
It weighs 3lbs 4oz and picks up better than I thought, although I can't see myself doing anything else than prodding and driving with it!
It has 55mm edges and an 88mm spine - and yes I know it's stupid, but what larks!!
Edges can take 2 x 10p's or one medium sized banana.
Amazingly, it taps up really well!

you should be having a net with me to test it this evening.
ggrrr
-
You are correct - I absolutely should be doing that - but stroppy 14 years olds, won't pick themselves up from the cinema!
(Although Lord knows I wish they did!)
-
And other halves won't change their flight back from the states either...

Bloody hell Fattus that's massive and the bat ain't bad either lol.
On a serious note up there is no way a class player like you can play any proper shot with that's. although I have a tip for you.
Close eyes, move front foot out the way, swing like a monkey from a tree, let carnage begin.

I would not like to be in the way if he did catch one out off the middle as it taps up well

Your have the hammer msr next week to compare for a proper net test now

Bloody Hel! (do you see what I did there?)
How much does that weigh?
-
It's about 3.8 I hear Jason is a big fan off the bat and will be on general sale very soon lol
-
Fattus this will be in your procession to do what you like with it from next week just remember that this is a prototype lol ;)
-
that looks just like my kind of bat.
