Just received my new bat direct from CA. Decided to get CA top range bat. Looks great, Weight around 2.9. Minimum concaving. And ping is amazing on most of the bat.
Only disappointment is that during transit the spine of the bat got a dent not a massive dent just a minor which has really put me of as it ruins the look of this great bat and hope ot don't affect the performance of the bat.

Thats a lovely looking CA, love the profile & almost no concaving on it. This one looks well finished and doesn't look as dry as other CAs we have seen around. Looks a great stick mate.
-
Good call! I took screenshots of UA's bat when he was playing the World Cup matches. The sweet spot or swell seems high? And there is a bit of a duckbill with a full profile. Can you post a full profile picture of the bat? Thanks.

Ah...this looks really nice and high. Thanks!

Lovely looking bat. On the spine, I think Matt from h4l posted a thread a few years back about putting a damp sponge or cloth on the dented part of the spine, it should swell back up and look good as new again.

Hey thanks for the help and suggestion. I need to look into that hopefully I can find the thread. This dent on spine has really put me of so hopefully it gets sorted out.
-
Very nice bat. I love my two CA's. Just out of interest can you weigh your bat? just want to know if its weight matches the weight sticker on the edge.
-
That looks massive for 2lb 9oz, what does it pick up like?
-
That dent unfortunately looks terminal to my rather experienced eyes.... Due to increasing demand, I am starting a ruined-bat-disposal service which at this stage I can offer to Forumites for the bargain price of "free". Post it to me and I shall rid you of this nightmare, and please, don't thank me, I do this out of love for the game.... :D

I use steam mate i spit on the area and boil a kettle as it starts to steam it will pull the wood back out leave a tiny crack but will do the trick i do it to little dinks in mine.
-
That's a top tip mate, I'm gonna try that
-
I noticed no sticker saying 'fully knocked' - about time they got rid of that, it's the most ridiculous statement ever.
Oh, and a genuine offer here. If it actually weighs 2'9, i'll knock it in for free ;)
-
Lovely looking bat
Haha, Jake, no chance it will be actual weight of 2.9!
-
I am rather bemused how you can say that tiny dent, on the back of the bat, can have put you off it so much. Will it affect performance? no. Is it a massive dent or hole in the bat? no
It will be fine, it will pick up plenty of dinks throughout its life, as most bats do, so would you let that put you off? What happens when you edge one and it leaves a tiny surface crack? will it put you off?
Looks a lovely stick regardless, hint of GM with the stickers and colourway

It Weighs 2.10 exact so not that bad

Pick up is great on it feels really good

Well it weighs 2.10 but I did tell them that I want it around 2.9 or 2.10 after the stickers and grip is put on so got what I wanted. Picks up very light and that much wood in that weight is just not easy to get. Such a top cleft.

I'm really fussy lol. Paying a huge amount for a bat and it coming with a dent is depressing
-
When paying top dollars you expect to receive a top looking sl**, you can play it around and leave marks all over, doesn't matter.
-

Personally I get the sandpaper and bat wax out as soon as I get home and give the tiny surface crack some attention... :-[

Nice bat, don't ruin it with steam or water...its a dent and I understand its disappointing but the damage you could do with steam or water could be much worse. I had similiar happen to my top of the line salix and decided to live with the dent rather than try to fix it. In the end its your choice, but you will regret it forever if you ruin your brand new and expensive bat...

The name looks like it belongs to an assault rifle if you ask me...

Steam or water does not ruin a bat mate it pulls dinks out thay make be a bit big for this way but it does not ruin bats all the best batmakers in the world have used this way for year.

Dave, batmakers and professionals are one thing as it is their trade, for someone like me it could ruin a bat. Unless the OP has had a lot of experience fixing issues it is important to proceed with caution.

I understand that but we are talking very small amounts it not really for this type of dink more little edge dinks but a very small amount mate does pull them out think it could be time for a demo video.
The bat looks a real beasty nice bats them CA.
-
^ A demo video would be nice as I have a perfect candidate for the experiment.
-
@shax12 I tried Dave's spit and stream method of repairing the dinks on one of my bats today.
It worked perfectly, I was surprised how well it turned out, give it a try,
The dints in mine were quite deep, stud marks, and they've been there for a while,

Just tried the spit and steam trick, worked a treat. Thanks for the tip Dave.

@Wooly
Super!
Can you share the exact steps/process that you followed? Thanks.
-
Any time mate glad it worked
I will do a video it is easy for small dinks you spit in the area and as your kettle boils place it over the kettle the effected area
I would love to take credit for it but it was Streaky showing me
-
Awesome!
-
How much you paid for it?
Does this spit n steam would work to swell up the whole bat? just curious to know if thats how huge profiles are being made in smaller weights.

Never tried but no it would dry and split the bat mate on contact only for small dinks and i mean really small
-
Im an old fuddy duddy i think it looks like a floorboard
-
Very nice, the profile seem to be exactly like what he is currently using unless I am being deceived.
What is edge size if I may ask?
Hope this bat serves you well, looks VERY impressive. The new livery is big improvement.

One day I saw Akmal using this higher middle and another day mid/low one. I think he is changing the bat a bit too often unless my eyes have been decieving me.

Well, This is my take in this and I did some experiments on my SS Gladiator and MRF Grand Edition to test out. I have to say that I was very cautious considering the sheer quality of bats that was at stake.
A bit of science:
1. Trees suck up water along the direction of the grains and not perpendicular to them. This is the reason why the toe of a bat is the most vulnerable in addition to the fact that it is exposed more to the factors such as dampness of the ground. It is also subject to most of the abuse (apart from the middle of the bat that is). That is not to say that if you have a splash in the middle of your bat, you should not be worried. Timber being a porous material, that splash may prove costly and spills should be wiped off immediately. I had a BAS Vampire Grade 2 Willow bat, with which I played on damp ground and trust me, it had some serious swelling near the toe. That bat was later machine rolled and turned into a beautiful tennis ball bat.
2. Steam - We all know that water is harmful for a bat. But then, steam is a different proposition. The reason for the same is how much of steam? 10 grams of water when converted to 10 grams of steam, is actually, a hell of a lot of steam. If I expose my bat to a jet of steam from a steam cleaner for a minute, that is equivalent of 10 grams of water at the best (approx). Out of that 10 grams of steam, most of it is going to fly off. At the best a gram of it is what would condensate on the bat. If one is careful about wiping it off immediately, a good amount of it gets into the towel, leaving about 0.1 of a gram of water. That is a rough, back of a tissue paper calculation. Having said that, steam is hot and it is the heat that is damaging. Prolonged exposure would cause damage to the wood. So, short bursts of steam of up to 10 sec and up to 5 times with 5 minutes break in between, shouldn't be a concern.
Finally, it is about time to put theory to practice. As I said, what is at stakes are two beautiful blades that have been bowlers envy, but also have enough dings of various sizes on the face, on the back and on the edges. Having stripped the extratec and edge tapes, I set out with a towel, linseed oil and steamer with me and did exactly 5 bursts of steam, each not more than 10 sec on each ding on each bat and this is what I have to report -
1. Smoothened out big dings - No, the size of it remained the same, but the edges seemed to have softened out.
2. Small dings of 1 to 3 mm have disappeared - But really, do you guys really worry about dents so small?
3. Dents (sorry Craters) on the bat face remained as they were.
4. The steam seemed to have cleared up the linseed oil coating. So, I have oiled the bats again.
Quite frankly, I have not seen any significant differences between the before and after scenarios here. The bats were oiled, dried and replacement extratec on them. Didn't feel a thing in the nets - the bats were exactly the same. If anything, a few minor, inconsequential dents have disappeared. That is all there is to it.
Is it worth the pain? No. Shall I do it again? Never.
