Title: Kookaburra UK 2016 Range
Post by: Bowlers Name Please on August 07, 2015, 01:26:26 PM
Has anyone got any details on next years UK Kookaburra range?  Just been looking through the GCCC catalogue and like the look of the Plasma and Onyx and was wondering if they will be available in the UK?

Also having not used a Kook before I was wondering what others experience with them is.  Unfortunately people that I know have generally had bad experiences (alot of broken handles, splits etc) with them which has always put me off but wanted to hear some positive stories as well.

Thanks.

It looks like the Onyx will be one of the new ranges but I can't say much. One of the guys at my club works for Kookaburra and all he said was the new range will be out in November.

I've only had good experiences of kook bats. I'm using a kahunna i got from Jake and its a gun bat. Other guys at my club use a range of kooks and all really like them.

I have used Kahuna 1000 & 800 (2013 & 2014 models) and i will stand by those bats for many more years to come. For a bat weighing 2.9lb, 38mm edges and 60mm spine is amazing !

I have been tempted with the SS Master 9000 bats, but the trusted Kookaburra Kahuna still remains my top choice for a match ....

That's good to know then.  Will keep an eye on next years range then, the Plasma especially.

+1 for kook softs. Just bought a pair Kook kahuna 900 batting gloves. Its much better than the 2013/14 model design.

2012 I used all Kook gear. Kahuna 1000 and two 600's. The 1000 was beautiful and a gun, the two 600's were pretty much as nice to look at and performed almost as well. All three bats are still going strong as I gave them away to not so talented jnrs (not going to give them to the good ones as they get all the help anyway usualy). The 1000 I was very reluctant to give away but it simply wasn't going to get used :(

The pads and bag however.. I had top end Kahuna pads adn they fell apart after one season (granted I play and net alot but still!!) and the bag (the top one) fell apart also. Gloves were fine (just used and sweaty obviously)

The Kook I had was left handed!
The only shot that felt like it came off anything resembling a sweet spot was the reverse sweep!

No details on the 2016 Kook range yet, but we are seeing it early next month.

As for satisfaction with Kook bats, i would ask where you guys purchased your bats? I know @ProCricketer1982 went the warehouse and picked them himself as he was a sponsored player at the time, but as that isn't possible for most people, I would suggest relying on retailers who handpick, and there aren't that many UK retailers who handpick their bats on a regular basis, most of them are on this forum.

We are very close to Kookaburra and visit all the time, averages out to at least once a month and I'm always happy to take requests if someone is looking for something in particular.

Mine was 2nd hand from here if I remember correctly.
Was a low end ricochet (I think it has sample on the handle) that had beautiful grains and I got it for a bargain price.

I maintain it was a total plank though, and the fact I couldn't hit the ball of the square had nothing to do with my lack of ability whatsoever  ;)

Would be nice if Kook actually recognised cricketers in the UK use oval handles. I'm sure they could find a factory in India that could make them.

It was mine orginally, I bought it though Owzat off eBay. Looked gorgeous and it wasn't as terrible performance wise as Cam makes out. Hated the concaving on it however.

My bro has a Ricochet 250 and it flies, he has just cracked it through the shoulder though.

It is just a bit of a shame. They could have done something interesting-as they did in 2015-but they seem to have recidivistically reverted/retreated  to their old ways of change the colours and call it new.

Just the 3 ranges this year? Only saw I cadejo this season and no instincts, maybe there is some profile differences in actual bats but agree look quite similar except Kahuna still has that lovely full spine into the toe.

The cadejo and the thin edge bat probably didn't sell. Hence the reversal and just chuck out 3 highly concaved bats again.

I do wonder which one will be available in heavy weights!

I feared they would struggle when they announced the instinct and cadejo were to be endorsed by Ambrose and Carbs respectively. Good players but hardly headliners compared to de Villiers, Buttler etc who endorsed their respective ranges.

Look a bit closer pal, they're different bats. There's a blemish on the back and edge of the kahuna, a proninent grain on the back of the verve While the onyx is clean willow.
They look like prototype bats to me rather than a photoshopped bat with stickers added

Yer I sort of suspected it was more just to show off the design of the stickers etc as oppose to the actual bat shapes.

The bats also aren't the same shape... This is one of the biggest cricket companies in the world we're talking about here, they're not so amateurish as just to grab some stock bats, sticker them up and post them online as a launch photo!

I really liked the Kook Midas colour range - it just needed a traditionally shaped bat to meet that classic look and feel.

Let's hope that they reintroduce the Midas in 2017 with a full profiled, rounded face mid-high middle bat.

Yes looks like the Bubble II a la Chris Rogers which in shape bears little if any resemblence to the Bubble apart from the name.  Like the Purist F2 which looked little like the orignal Purist.  The black one looks a bit like the Kook 1890 which a couple kiwis used last years.  And the white looking one looks like last years Aus Patriot.  That being said I will probably get none of them right!

The bubble is actually the ignite and the other two are the blade and ghost. The black one looks like a very traditional profile while the other two look more modern

There are some new duffles too as well as a new colour for some of the the bags which looks pretty good.

It's really very difficult to tell from these photos but we saw the range a while ago and there is a lot of variation in the profiles, more so than any recent kookaburra range on my opinion.

I like the bird moving centrally and the profile of the blade has to be seen to be believed, like a newbery tour on steroids!

We will not be stocking the Blade range, but the others like my favourite the Ghost as well as the new Kahuna, Verve, Ignite and Onyx ranges are all online.

Anyone wanting to place a pre-order may do so and will not be charged until the order is ready for dispatch. We will also offer our knocking in service for free to CBF members. We will be picking out our bats as soon as we get the all clear from Kookaburra on the bats being available at thier warehouse.

So I've just got my hands on the Kook Onyx 700 softs - have to say I'm surprisingly disappointed. For the supposed 2nd grade of their softs, I can't help but think they should be better? The actual quality of the gloves/pads is what I expected from dirt cheap gear to be honest. There's barely any flex in the gloves at all, the pads feel cheap and they're not exactly comfortable either.

Is it just me? (It may be that my vision is a bit rose-tinted after 3 years of my own softs tbf...)

Kookaburra's softs are going downhill rapidly.  For the 2nd grade I'd expect 3 piece side bar protection on the bottom hand, but now they only offer one piece.  Instinct 800 i think it was felt horrendous!  The best gloves I used from them were the R900s from a couple years back.  Using the Verve 1000s now but if they don't bring out a decent pair of sausage gloves for 2017 I'll use a different brand.

I've gone for Gray Nics softs this season after using Kook softs for the last 5 years or so. Just don't think the standards are as good and for the same money you can get so much more quality if you look elsewhere. I did like the look of the Blade gloves but the rest of the range didn't strike me as being too great.

Glad it's not just me, safe to say they're heading back for a refund - I'm amazed some retailers would even stock them in their current state (Kudos to the ones that don't!)

I think you've had to buy the top end Kook softs for the past 3-4 years to get decent quality - anything below looks extremely disappointing...

I thought the top of the their line is decent but i was wrong. Comparing a 2011 and 2015 kahuna 1000 gloves, the recent model is a very poor quality product.

Had a look round my local cricket shop
And the kook stuff looks very average compared
To other brands like grays and gm

Has anyone noticed the gloves which Butler is using ? They are full split finger players version of Kook Verve. 2016 product offering is very different to that one ... Retailers any idea ??
