Seems there's a decent amount on here from Bristol and the surroundings, do people fancy having a forum net someplace over the winter?
-
I like the sound of it depending where to.
-
Yep, I'd be up for that.
In fact, I'm around any time during the day, so if anybody fancies a net at Globe ( or anywhere else), give me a shout
-
Could be tempted yes
-
Any suggestions on venue? County ground is the obvious one, but lacking on runup. Merchant's Academy? Hoping there's some great net facility that I don't know about...
-
Somerset County ground is possible.
-

You sound proper Somerset saying that mate!!

Arrrr where's it to then ;)
I'd be keen for Bristol personally, Taunton's a bit of a trek for a net. Depends where everyone is I suppose!
-
I'm in Minehead but don't mind travelling.
-
Down's School in Wraxhall have decent nets as Spoonbed and I can confirm;

Also, Colston's in Stapleton have a decent indoor hall, just don't smash the glass in the fire escape doors two balls in a row...they didn't like that.

ApparentY its £10 an hour at the county ground on a Thursday. Extra fiver for a bowling machine
-
Unfortunately I've broken my leg, no netting for me! Would still be keen to get this going early next year though.
-
Please tell me that was playing indoor against our lot last night?!
Hope the recovery goes smoothly for you mate

Ha! No, completely unrelated trampoline injury - was down to be playing but obviously had to drop out. Cheers mate, 6 weeks of daytime TV beckons. Thank goodness there's a test series on.
-
OK, I have two functional legs again and was reminded of this by another topic.
Suggestion: a net at either the Gloucestershire ground or Merchants Academy in Withywood. Would prefer Glos personally. Weekend of the 16th/17th Jan works for me? Thoughts/who's keen?
-
I'm pretty much bang in the middle of Bristol and Taunton so either is convenient for me

I can prob make the Sunday 17th
-
Can make 17th. Would prefer county ground as a venue
-
I can do the 17th .
-
Ok great, that's 4 of us, enough for a decent hours net. County ground sounds like the way to go.

Just seen this, don't think they were best pleased with my club when we netted there last winter! Me and one of our other lads smashed their office door glass a couple of times each, pretty sure we weren't the only ones either judging by the usual state of it when we turned up.

Sundays are a no no unless it's in season I'm afraid. Thanks for the invite, @spoonbed, don't forget your dog toy!

Well, we've booked a couple of pre-season nets just to see whether their grumpiness was just a one off or not.
-
I may be available for this depending what Time your thinking of doing it

I'm pretty easy on time personally, would early evening suit everyone?

Good for me mate
-
You need it to break in that new kit @thecord 👍
-
Would be keen lads but using up my weekend pass the night before for the lads annual Darts comp/lash up with the cricket lads so no chance of getting to disappear off to nets the day after as well I'm afraid.
-

For sure, netting on Sunday too so will give it a go then ;)
Sorry meant to ask when I saw you earlier if you fancied this but sounds like you have bigger plans!
-

Yep, that's fine for me
-
Good for me also edge.
-
Ok all 4 of us good for evening on Sunday 17th @thecord @spoonbed @mcgill123. Shame you can't make it Tom, @d7bow?
I'll book it next time I go to the gym if everyone's confirmed and happy, £30 for a net for an hour I think it is.
-
Thumbs up from me my good man.
Advance warning, as a keeper my bowling ability is "limited"
-
Yep, all good for me too.
My "bowling" isn't up to much either, but I shall bring the sidearm.
Let me know if/ how you want payment, or if we just sort it on the day
-
Should be OK as long as it's 6:30ish or later
Also by bowling is sh!te as well :)
-
So the only one of us who usually bowls will be me, hopping through my runup? Should be interesting ha, sidearm sounds a good idea.
Sort the payment out on the day will be easiest. I'll book it tomorrow or Saturday and let you guys know, will try and book 7-8 then.
-
I'm in guys but I'm afraid I'm a non bowler also, but I have a sidearm.
-
Hi all,
is this for the county ground in Taunton? If so, I'll be interested in coming - sorry to burst in at the last minute :-0

County ground in Bristol I'm afraid mate, room for another if you can make it up though?

So glad you posted this, I was 100% going to Taunton.
I would've looked such a plank trying to introduce myself to random people.

Which bohemian side did you play in last season?

1s/2s, more games for the 2s I think last year. Who do you play for, guessing you played one against us at some point?
-
I played for Stapleton against your 2's twice last season, you have a great bowling unit.

Ah yes I played the one at your ground, you must have been the chap with the b3 who got run out early? I batted three and I think bowled first changechange that game. Cheers, we're lucky enough to have seamers coming out of our ears so even the 3s usually have a solid pace attack!

Yeah run out without facing a ball!! Use to play with a few of your thirds (chequi and dapper )a few years back for hengrove
-

Consider me in then please. Bit of a trek but will be good to put some faces to names :-)
-
@jamesisapayne more than welcome mate, makes 6 of us which is spot on for one net. It's booked in, 7-8 Sunday 17th, see you all then!
@d7bow Yes very bad luck with that track and short boundary! Far better to bat on than our place ha. Haven't managed to meet those two yet as the 3s play in Kingswood and they haven't made it back to our home ground after games, by all accounts Dapper's done very well since joining though!
-
Nice one, ta for sorting.
Do you know if it's in the old/original permanent two lane net( at the back of the gym), or in the main(new) hall up past the Bristol pavilion?
-

Got the older one at the back of the gym I believe.
-
What sort of surface is this guys? Has it got decent bounce or is it a sprung wooden floor that goes thunk?
Also, I presume trainers are just fine?
-
Yea trainers are fine mate, the surface in that building is not that bouncy...unless you pitch short of the matting that is!
-
Sorry guys, I'm going to have to duck out of this one.
Hope you have a good hit
-
Sad to hear that Phil! See the rest of you Sunday anyway, those coming from outside Bristol feel free to give me a PM if you need directions or owt like that.
-
@edge just to confirm its 7-8 in the old 2 lane bit
-

Yep that's right mate
-
Enjoy chaps, I'd love to join you if it was not on a Sunday.
-
Thanks for the net guys, it was fun and we will have to do it again sometime.
-
Yep thanks to all, and to Ed for arranging.
I'd be up for it again anytime- maybe there's somewhere 1/2 way for you zumerset lads?

Not sure if there is Paul, I didn't mind the trek, got home at a quarter past nine so not that bad and it was good for us wurzels to see the bright lights of Brizzol.
-
Bright lights big city....hopefully u enjoyed a beer after in one of our fine establishments 👍

Too rough up there for me Tom and it would've spoiled my Horlicks.
-
Yep cheers to the two of you Somerset boys for making the drive up from the sticks! Good to get a net in, agree we'll have to do it again for sure.
-
Haha you'd be ok north of the river, all hipsters and students that part of town!
Some decent pubs within a 5 min walk of the county ground tho if it's a bit earlier next time 👍
-
Thanks for organising Ed and I hope the ankle isn't to sore.
We will have to do another with you in attendance Tom and you can keep us out of trouble in the boozer.
-
Well that was fun! Great to put some names to faces and check out some tasty willow - think my ricochet is destined for the club bag though, middle feels as big as a 2p piece!
I'm up for doing it again whenever. Weston may be a good shout distance wise but I'm not sure what's around regarding facilities.
Great to meet you all, and next time I'll pick you up in the way through @mcgill123
-
I think you are doing yourself a disservice with regards to finding the middle mate.
Weston does seem like a good idea but I'm not sure about venues, should be able to find somewhere though.
-
Good net chaps, maybe next time a curry or a beer after for sure
-

Now we're talking!
-
curry and a beer. i would definitely be up for that. would make the trek worth while
-
Alright then, nets and a beer? Earlier in the evening to allow for beer after and to make it easier to find a free slot with it being in more demand now clubs have started their preseason?
First or second weekend in March would be my suggestion, who's keen? Open to alternative venue suggestions to make it easier for the zummerzet contingent or doing the same again if you're happy. @spoonbed @mcgill123 @Ayrtek @jamesisapayne @thecord @d7bow @jwebber86 @frooper11
-
Sounds great Ed, I'm happy to come up to Brizoo again if any of the others want to join in. I can pick anyone up on the way through and may have a friend who's probably interested in joining us and loves his willow. If there's a fair few of us could we book the net for 2 hours so we get a decent amount of batting time? Don't fancy a 2 hour round trip for 7-8 minutes ;)
I'm not sure if James is going to be around, thought I read somewhere he's moving to Worcester?
-
Keen depending on times and if I can wangle a pass 👍
-
Yeah definitely agree on the time, either book two hours or two nets if there's enough of us. I've got a mate from my club who's keen to join too, hopefully the numbers will be good.
Assumed he won't be but thought I'd tag him anyway just in case!
-
Yep, sounds like a plan. I'm can probably get a pass for anytime to suit.
2 hours/ 2 nets would be great
-
Can't do Sunday's but if it's a Saturday I'm keen, depending on who the other Boh is Ed?! ;)
-

Ha! Not one you'll know I expect, one of our 2s bowlers. Saturdays will probably be a lot easier to book the hall with lots of clubs netting on Sundays now, so as long as the majority are good with that then that's the way I'd go.
-
Ah ok, never played your 2s so probably won't know him like you say.
-
I'd like to come again Ed, I can probably get a pass for either day or time, the longer the better for me.
-
i would be interested depending on when it is and what im working. weirdly worcester is probably closer then my home to bristol.

Not that quick left armer is it?
-
Not that quick left armer is it?
Yeah that's the one, you must have faced him last season I guess?
-
Only just saw that I was tagged on this. May well be up for it depending when, can't do Sundays or face quick left armers.
-
Yeah that's the one, you must have faced him last season I guess?
Yes, and the bugger got me out, edged behind.
-
Yes, and the bugger got me out, edged behind.
Good chance to get your own back in nets then! ;) Ha @frooper11 he's not that quick, don't worry ;)
Saturday seems to be the way we're going, I'll make a new topic now with a question for dates then.
