Who do you think has the best Glovework, so basically the best keeper minus their batting!
My shortlist has to be from:
Mark Boucher
Brad Haddin
Niall O'Brien
James Foster
Craig Kieswetter
-
Can I add Chris Read and Brendan McCullum to this list??
-
I would say Foster...... and Kieswettter isn't too shabby either!
None of them are shabby!
-
yes and i'd like to add phil mustard!
-
Brad Haddin
Tim Paine
Ms Dhoni
P Jayawardene
James Foster
-
mark boucher
james foster
ms dhoni
brad haddin
-
dhoni??!!
-
Very good keeper, very few byes good off the spinners and quicks, standing up or back. Solid all round, ugly but effective.
-
Dhoni's glove work is decent at best..
India's best keeper is Dinesh Karthik IMO
International - Boucher..
-
I dont rate Dhoni as one of the best gloveman!! Absolutely a world class batsmman, granted!!
-
I think bouchers good but not as good as haddin.
-
i dont rate dhoni too much as a keeper either, awesome batsman and great leader.... but his glovework is not up there with the best....
-
If Dhoni's glovework was as good as his batting, then he would be super-human! He is decent behind the stumps, but not up with the best!
I still think that Foster is one of the best and quickest!

After that I will never consider Haddin a good keeper or cricketer...
-
Prasanna Jayawardena is the best gloveman in the world by a country mile.
-
that's disgusting from haddin
-
Haddin?! He is far from the best gloveman in the world, in my opinion he's one of the poorest keepers in test cricket.
Foster is scarily impressive, his stumping off Napier was insane, can't see many other keepers in the world diving down the legside, taking the ball off a high 80mph bowler and still managing to stump the batsman!
Ben Scott at middlesex is also really impressive but doesn't really get mentioned in best keeper discussions!
-
i dont think haddin did that on purpose so back off him a little
-
haddin was shocking in the ashes. sangakarra is awesome too
-
Surely Read must be considered right up there for his glovework as he is awesome - if someone like Rodney Marsh considers him in high regard then that's good enough for me. Very underrated batsmen too (which I know isn't the point) as his batting isn't too shabby either if you look at his first class record
-
I'm with Boydie on this one - It was live on Sky when Foster took that stumping off Napier - it was very close to or was 90mph, a very full ball and taken down the leg side, it was simply the best peice of keeping i've ever seen, so far.
Just look at the stumpings of Yuvraj and Bravo during the World T20.. I suppose it's a good thing that England are a bit spoilt for choice when it comes to keepers

Not a single one of England's keeper/batsmen are world-class all rounders though. Prior's a fine batsman and adequate keeper. Foster and Read are top notch glove men but average batsmen.
-
And just on time, queue Kieswetter (or however you spell it!)
Class batsman AND great with the gloves too!
-

Yeah I was going to mention him, hes particularly good standing up to the pace bowlers. Don't know why middlesex have loaned him out!
-
prassana jayawardene
karthik/?????? india's best keeper?????????? o hell no

Chaim, Dinesh Karthik is widely recognised in India as the best glove man. India's best ever glove man, Syed Kirmani, rates him, so he can't be all that bad.
-
Dhoni's glove work isn't that good.. He gives up so many byes..
-
Jeet do you remember how badly Karthik suffered vs SL last year ? and vs New Zealand in march?
Dhoni may not be the cleanest glover of a cricket ball , but he gets the job done , keeping to some of the best bowlers in the world
-
The discussion is about glove work.. not overall keeper.. and if you want to talk about suffering badly Dhoni suffers every match he keeps in.. like you said he just gets the job done because his bat makes up for it..
-
how about ben brown of sussex he is class saw him in malaysia 2 yrs ago and on sky since if his batting improves he will start every game
-
prassana jayewardena
-
Haddin and Kieswetter are nowhere near the best glovemen in the world.
-
James Foster is rediculously good behind the stumps!
-
I agree that Haddin is nowhere near.
Keiswetter is natually VEERY good! And is still learning and developing behind the stumps!
When he is on form he's brilliant - so just needs to learn to be more consistent.
Foster however is as good as anyone!
-
Yeah Haddin's average and Kieswetter, at this very moment, is as well. Nothing more.
To talk about them in the same vein as the best of the best is a bit of a joke really.
-
Just to add one of the main reason's Kieswetter left SA for England was because he was told by his province that his glovework wasn't up to scratch.
-
And now SA want him to take over from Boucher!!!!
So he has obviously improved!???
-
Who do we think he's gonna play fpr then??
(pete wack up some ayrtek pics!! ona another topic ;) )
-
Well, Graham Smith was asking him to consider going back to SA. But he is not interested and has voiced his interest and desire to play for England - his Dad is African but his Mum is Scottish, so he qualifies to play for England from February 2010.
He has also been fast-tracked into the England performance squad. So I suspect that in one form or another, he will be playing for England pretty soon!
-
Now that would be an interesting accent! scottish combined with south african.
-
good, think he looks very decent! Yet another south african we'll have in!
-
Not being funny, but however good Kieswetter is, South Africa have a brilliant reserve wicketkeeper in Heino Kuhn
-
Good - so they don't need him then! :)
He is a really exciting batsman so looking forward to seeing him at international level and see if he steps up to the mark!
Still dont think his glove work isn't up to the standard of Foster or other top glovemen though TBH!!!
-
Foster- the ball just melts in to the gloves, a natural.
jack Russell the best I have seen
-
No doubt Kieswetter will be playing for England, rightly or wrongly. I personally feel Davies is a better shout for the ODI side but I don't make those decisions.
Just in the context of purely being a gloveman Kieswetter is absolutely nowhere near world class.
-
Personally anything will be an improvement on Prior- I really dislike the guy, his ego deserves its own postcode.
-
how can you dislike prior? his work rate in unreal? his keeping has come on leaps and bounds, i believe he is the right man for the job at test level. i think foster should keep for twenty20 and maybe even one dayers
-
I actually feel that Geriant Jones is very underestimated! People forget that he was a good servant to England! He made a couple of mistakes but because it was at international level is was noticed more. If you watch him on TV now he is a fantastic keeper!!
-
i couldnt agree with you more, was in great form for the mighty spitfires this year, batting at 3 for the majority of the season
-
Great minds ;)
-
hes been my favourite player since i started watching cricket, he came into the team when i was old enough to actaully understand the game, his drives are beutiful . . . .
-
I like the way

I like the way davies bats, hes seems a lot more 'solid' than keiswetter
-
Yeah, agree.
People seem to have this idea that Kieswetter is a much bigger hitter than Davies, when Davies actually strikes at a quicker rate than Kieswetter in List A cricket.
Factor in superior glovework and the fact that Davies doesn't bat on a road at Taunton for all his home games and that's why I think Davies is a better shout.
-
Foster is the best 'keeper in the world, as a pure 'keeper.
Haddin is dreadful, and ugly at best.
I also really rate Dinesh Ramdin as a 'keeper because he 'keeps on such bad tracks and generally does well.
Can someone post the Fozzy stumping off Napier up?
Cheers Nick
-
yea Nickroe Denesh Ramdin's keeping has come on leaps and bounds
-
I think you forget that Davies is English.......Kieswetter is a Saffer and will therefore walk straight into the setup!
-
I can't find the Fozzy/Napier stumping but i'm sure the game was Essex v Hampshire NWPro40 on 3 September 09. The batsman stumped was James Vince who was on 93
-

I read an article a few years ago when he first broke in to the set up and it spoke of his ego being huge (he used to sign autographs with his squad number, a la Beckham 23, when he had only played in a couple of games). He just didnt come across well, and that bad press has stuck with me; he has done nothing to change my opinion, and does seem to have a big ego.
happy to be proved wrong though...
-
My favourite all round keeper, including batting, though, is Brendon McCullum, a great allrounder.
apparently he used to keep Dan Carter out of the team as schoolboy rugby players.

Hmmm, so he concedes my point (kind of). Lets hope he is true to his word and has grown up a bit, although I do think they are eying up Kieswetter for next year!
