I'll have a gander. It grates me to say it but imho the Aussies have nailed the 20/20 format with the BBL . My best mates a Victorian so I'll be following the Stars.

Any idea how Botha has gone under the radar for chucking? His action seems to get worse and worse every season

Wasn't he banned from International cricket for chucking?

I'm sure it was just his other delivery. Surprised it goes unnoticed in Australia. Another one of those chuckers who's always kept his elbow covered.

Andre Russell was bowling some heat earlier, looked a different gravy. If only the WI board could sort out this nonsense of their best players chasing T20 money and play for their countries.

I'm not the biggest T20 fan but I really enjoy the Big Bash! Probably the highest standard of franchise cricket played over 3-4 weeks. Will definitely catch a few games when I'm off work between Christmas and New Year. Cheering for the Strikers this year with Dizzy and Rash being involved with them!

Intersting to see Chris Gayle going out to bat. See below from Courier Mail.

The West Indian cool cat will be the man with the golden bat.

Manufacturers Spartan have made a gold-coloured weapon for party boy Gayle which will become the glittering broadsword of Australia’s Big Bash competition.

The world-first bat, with a gold colouring infused in the timber and sprayed all over the bat, will be flown to Brisbane for Gayle to use in Saturday night’s Melbourne Renegades’ clash against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.

“There is a light spray of a beautiful gold colour over the bat, it is something that cricket hasn’t seen before,’’ Spartan boss Kunal Sharma said.

“We went and asked the kids what they wanted to see and they said they wanted a colourful bat.
“So we thought, why don’t we make the bat more attractive.

“We have infused a gold colour in the timber wood of the bat and there is sheen of a gold spray over the bat.’’
This is how the “universeboss’’ warms up for matches. Picture: Source: Twitter

The flamboyant Gayle, who calls himself the “universeboss’’ on social media, tweeted a hint about his golden bat a fortnight before swaggering into Australia.

There were some initial plans to use real gold in the bat, which would have been reminiscent of the famous scenes of when Dennis Lillee used an aluminium bat in a 1979 Ashes Test in Perth.

However that plan was scuttled with Spartan quickly realising it would never be approved by cricket officials.

“There is no metal in the gold colouring we are using in the bat,’’ Sharma said.
Chris Gayle is set to rock BBL 05 with his golden bat.

“There are restrictions on what you can and can’t use in cricket bats. You can’t put metals into bat products because they can enhance strokeplay. This bat is fine because we haven’t changed the make-up of it.’’

On Thursday Cricket Australia indicated that as long as Gayle’s gold bat was wooden, there should be no problem with its legality.

“Cricket Australia would assume that all players are using equipment that complies with the Laws of Cricket and, if that’s case, there should be no issue,” CA Head of Cricket Operations Sean Cary said.

The flashy Gayle, a T20 gun for hire, seems particularly suited to becoming the Goldfinger of world cricket.

Hussey is now the batting consultant for Australia T20 WC campaign ... and this innings is a testament to why Mr Cricket is very popular in IPL.

The gold bat looks bit DIY to me, especially as it looks like they have even sprayed th grip gold. granted Gayles maybe a bit diff. to this one as its been signed.

He's an amazing short form batsman, doesn't slog, plays proper shots and looks for twos and threes rather than trying to hit every ball over the fence.

Something the Aus short form teams could learn a bit.

Big bash!!!

This game has

Gayle
Bravo
Simmons

3 West Indians in aus, that are all probably better than what's in the test side.

Gutted I'll be at training while finch and gayle open. But with gayle having a bowl, I would resume his back is recovering well.

That 100 from khawaja has to be the best t20 hundred I've ever seen. No wild swinging, no random smashes. Pure cricket, never looked in trouble, never looked flustered. Amazing innings.

Apparently he also borrowed and then broke one of david Warners bats. Did wonder why it had the orange chequer on the stickers.

Oh and they showed this.

It'd be interesting to see who'd win a test match. West Indies current side vs the t20 stars.

Gayle
Simmons
Bravo
Pollard
Russell
Sammy
Badree

That's 7 in this tournament of top of my head.

The player cam/mic is a brilliant addition - the two games I've seen so far have had KP and Gayle doing it, I'm surprised so many of them agree to it when batting as I thought they'd just want to be in zone a bit

The quality of the bbl is much higher than the ram slam. But once Kp has his eye in it doesn't matter.

Boom!

Also Kp wore a shrey in South Africa, but a mauri here, is that due to the camera? Or a choice change.

Personally think the leg side slap for two (that he did about 7 of) was the better option. I am not aware that the scoop is a shot he plays (saw him play a few games for lancs last season). if he has been practicing that shot in the nets then BIG call to play that with 3 balls to spare. That means stars have lost both and up against it a little. Sometimes the most obvious shot is the best. IMO  :D

ECB will never do franchise as counties in it for themselves and ECB won't fight them on it

They are part of the big 3 now so could open a window in summer to get big names here and get crowds in but they won't as counties will demand huge compensation for letting there players play

Wiley gets Maddison next ball though.

Maddison having a mare this season.

Willey having a decent tournament with the ball. Not quite top wicket taker like Rashid..........

100 for Wright! And he's probably taken his side home

80,000 crowd for a domestic game. Amazing effort from the Aussies! How long before the Ecb finally accepts franchise cricket
Never mind franchise cricket. Playing the tournament in a 6 weekish block during school holidays is great. Plus the fact it's on free to air tv almost every night.

Just got home from the MCG.  That was completely unexpected, walking to the ground the people outside waiting to get in was ridiculous. Speaking to some of the attendants they had only banked on about 35K, so they catered accordingly in terms of the amount of bars and kiosks that were open. It was a perfect day for it, weather spot on, kids still on holidays and the game started an hour earlier than usual, so it was more of a family friendly time. 80K was insane, and the atmosphere was great, no drunken fools as you normally get at the Tests or ODIs. Big moment for the BBL, it is well and truly part of the Australian summer!

Chris gayle causing a storm and not with the bat...

Tried to chat up the interviewer. Commentators seemed in easy and wanted to move on quickly.

Ten minutes later they have issued an apology. And a statement saying it's not what cricket is about, not what they are abit and they respect all woman in the game, both players in the wbbl and others working elsewhere.

How else do they expect men and women get together. Got to start somewhere. It was clearly tongue in cheek, I was loving it. Don't blame him either, she was rather tasty. Didn't look impressed though, rather stuck up if you ask me. Channel 10 apologising for it just makes the whole thing worse. If they'd have laughed it off, no-one would care

Just one from me watching highlights of today,
And Cameron Bancroft was at my old team for a season as our overseas,
Great lad very good keeper and a solid opening bat,
Came over with a load of Spartan gear Michael Clarke model snapped his bat in his second or third innings I think
Went up to headingly for a game and training with Derbyshire and got a bat made up, no stickers just plain as,
Went on to make loads of runs.

All the best to him

Another close game. Runs for carberry after being dropped and Wiley with another all round effort

Not sure why you would leave Sammy at number 7 when you need 12rpo. Then again most BBL coaches seem to rate the home players better than the overseas

Title: Re: Big bash!! Who's watching.
Post by: smilley792 on January 10, 2016, 09:08:02 AM
60 odd from 35.

Wiley with 25 of 9 and a wicket.

Aussies seem to rate Willey, but Carberry is a strange one. Maybe himnopeningnover Shaun marsh isn't going to happen.
By they keep picking Harris over carberry(Harris went from 3 to open and carbs at 3 today)

Carbs failed once and lost his place, Harris has had one innings over 30 yet gets go after go.

In the second game! Limb took a screamer! He normally drills everything in this tournament. Lol

I'm so happy that Lumb is back firing, as he missed pretty much all of last season for notts through injury

I'm a member at Trent bridge, and I think during the month I was up there I only saw him on the pitch once - and that was throwing a tennis ball to his kid on the outfield during tea!

I believe that was me. Number one I was talking about amateur cricket. You don't get world class turning up to play Premier League cricket. Number two, there is not just one of them per team. Number three, come at me when they have single handedly won the Big Bash.

Travis Head and Alex Ross are both SA born and bred boys and have been two of the best players, so not just the internationals carrying the team.
Title: Re: Big bash!! Who's watching.
Post by: smilley792 on January 13, 2016, 01:38:29 PM
I was far from suggesting they was carrying the team.
Just that the improvement in two areas has kicked up the performance the notch it needed.(more wickets and less runs by adding Rashid, and the ability to manoeuvre the ball about but Mahela)

Head is having a fantastic tournament with the bat

Biggest disappointment for me is craig Simmons. I loved the club cricket to bbl story, but after a poor start to this tournament, he seems to have been cast aside.
With Mahela slightly injured I thought he may have come back in. But nope.

Well batted usman. Is there anyone in better form across all for mats currently?

As for the strikers.

Mahela is class but been out injured for last 3/4 games and his replacement john O dean has done a half decent job in his place.

Mahela fit again and straight back in only managed 7 and strikers got off to a bad start and struggled in the power play.

Should your paid overseas quit come back in? Or should you stick with a winning side?

not really, the scorcher players weren't going to be playing in the ODI game, so release them yeh fair enough

Whereas the stars players are all likely to play in the ODI, so they stay with the national team.

country before club/franchise, simple

however I do think Cricket Australia could have been more forward thinking and arranged the ODIS series after the BB had finished

I wonder why KP isn't using the new Adidas stickers, does he just prefer the yellow ones?

I personally believed the Pellara was "his" range with him providing some sort of input into the colour scheme but since being dropped from England Adidas aren't going to use him as the face of the brand and therefore its not just "his" range any more.

What's your thoughts?

Disappointed the mcc isn't a sell out. But then tickets were only available for 2 days.

Kp battered superb again

Interesting listening to politics and that it happens at these franchises. Stars sign Clarke and instantly make him captain. Cam white not happy at being outed as skipper so moves to rivals.
Clarke then drops out with only a few weeks before tournament starts. Hussey reluctantly takes over.

And yet Watson is in the squad!!!! Watson has been poor in general this big bash. Just turning up occasionally.

Lynn, head and Khawaja would be a good back up bench for if finch/Warner got injured. Not questioning Warners talent but he isn't even signed for a big bash team and couldn't get in his ipl side last season.

Khawaja's certainly unlucky not to be playing ODI/T20Is.

Might have been year before then but remember there was dhawan finch and Warner at Hyderabad and Warner got the least amount of goes.

Edit: that was definately year before as Hyderabad released finch, he went to Mumbai got injured and now Mumbai have released finch.

Interesting listening to politics and that it happens at these franchises. Stars sign Clarke and instantly make him captain. Cam white not happy at being outed as skipper so moves to rivals.
Clarke then drops out with only a few weeks before tournament starts. Hussey reluctantly takes over.
White wasn't only outed as skipper he was not offered a contract. Not surprising given the whispers about him not being a great team man. Appears to have got quite grumpy as his form has dropped off and is regularly out of the Victorian team.

Seems to be a few high profile first class players now struggling to get a game in the Shield. Should be an interesting off season.
