Starts today 9am with a big derby. Sydney sixes vs Sydney thunder.
I wonder how much work I can do out me van so I can watch today.
-
I'll have a gander. It grates me to say it but imho the Aussies have nailed the 20/20 format with the BBL . My best mates a Victorian so I'll be following the Stars.
-
Any idea how Botha has gone under the radar for chucking? His action seems to get worse and worse every season
-
Mr.Cricket still got it though
-

Wasn't he banned from International cricket for chucking?
-
Hussey is just a freak
-
Wasn't he banned from International cricket for chucking?
I'm sure it was just his other delivery. Surprised it goes unnoticed in Australia. Another one of those chuckers who's always kept his elbow covered.
-
Andre Russell was bowling some heat earlier, looked a different gravy. If only the WI board could sort out this nonsense of their best players chasing T20 money and play for their countries.
-
Forget about the match, this was the highlight

I'm not the biggest T20 fan but I really enjoy the Big Bash! Probably the highest standard of franchise cricket played over 3-4 weeks. Will definitely catch a few games when I'm off work between Christmas and New Year. Cheering for the Strikers this year with Dizzy and Rash being involved with them!

Intersting to see Chris Gayle going out to bat. See below from Courier Mail.
The West Indian cool cat will be the man with the golden bat.
Manufacturers Spartan have made a gold-coloured weapon for party boy Gayle which will become the glittering broadsword of Australia’s Big Bash competition.
The world-first bat, with a gold colouring infused in the timber and sprayed all over the bat, will be flown to Brisbane for Gayle to use in Saturday night’s Melbourne Renegades’ clash against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.
“There is a light spray of a beautiful gold colour over the bat, it is something that cricket hasn’t seen before,’’ Spartan boss Kunal Sharma said.
“We went and asked the kids what they wanted to see and they said they wanted a colourful bat.
“So we thought, why don’t we make the bat more attractive.
“We have infused a gold colour in the timber wood of the bat and there is sheen of a gold spray over the bat.’’
This is how the “universeboss’’ warms up for matches. Picture: Source: Twitter
The flamboyant Gayle, who calls himself the “universeboss’’ on social media, tweeted a hint about his golden bat a fortnight before swaggering into Australia.
There were some initial plans to use real gold in the bat, which would have been reminiscent of the famous scenes of when Dennis Lillee used an aluminium bat in a 1979 Ashes Test in Perth.
However that plan was scuttled with Spartan quickly realising it would never be approved by cricket officials.
“There is no metal in the gold colouring we are using in the bat,’’ Sharma said.
Chris Gayle is set to rock BBL 05 with his golden bat.
“There are restrictions on what you can and can’t use in cricket bats. You can’t put metals into bat products because they can enhance strokeplay. This bat is fine because we haven’t changed the make-up of it.’’
On Thursday Cricket Australia indicated that as long as Gayle’s gold bat was wooden, there should be no problem with its legality.
“Cricket Australia would assume that all players are using equipment that complies with the Laws of Cricket and, if that’s case, there should be no issue,” CA Head of Cricket Operations Sean Cary said.
The flashy Gayle, a T20 gun for hire, seems particularly suited to becoming the Goldfinger of world cricket.

Hussey is now the batting consultant for Australia T20 WC campaign ... and this innings is a testament to why Mr Cricket is very popular in IPL.

The gold bat looks bit DIY to me, especially as it looks like they have even sprayed th grip gold. granted Gayles maybe a bit diff. to this one as its been signed.

Loved this. "I'd like the long back and sides please"
-
Hussey is now the batting consultant for Australia T20 WC campaign ... and this innings is a testament to why Mr Cricket is very popular in IPL.
He's an amazing short form batsman, doesn't slog, plays proper shots and looks for twos and threes rather than trying to hit every ball over the fence.
Something the Aus short form teams could learn a bit.
-
All the English lads in for Stars/Strikers tonight...
-
Flint offs commentating is dreadful , like listening to micheal Owen on bt sport!

Agree... Terrible.
On the other hand what a great partnership with Hodge and Ross
-
Luke Wright really is using those awful stickers
-
Both openers should be back in the shed.
And Wright dropped as I say that. 3 chances within 2 overs
-
Flint offs commentating is dreadful , like listening to micheal Owen on bt sport!
I like Freddie but his commentary does always sound like he is constantly excited
-
What a shot by maxwell!
-
Can see this heading down to the wire, decent match!
-
After putting up with Taylor, Heally, slater and co all summer, Freddy is a step up in quality for us! :)
-
Really impressed by Rashids spell , he seemed to be pushing it through quicker and kept out thinking the batsmen.
-
Big bash!!!
This game has
Gayle
Bravo
Simmons
3 West Indians in aus, that are all probably better than what's in the test side.
Gutted I'll be at training while finch and gayle open. But with gayle having a bowl, I would resume his back is recovering well.
-
Gayle apparently will be using a gold bat according to the commentators.
-
How much of that gold paint is going to end up on the ball ???
Pure class/timing from Finch
-
That 100 from khawaja has to be the best t20 hundred I've ever seen. No wild swinging, no random smashes. Pure cricket, never looked in trouble, never looked flustered. Amazing innings.
Apparently he also borrowed and then broke one of david Warners bats. Did wonder why it had the orange chequer on the stickers.
Oh and they showed this.

Does anyone grunt more whilst bowling than McKay?? Every ball!
-
Im sure Ajmal Shahzad grunts a hell of a lot and its high pitched and annoying

Russell gets 2 in 2 balls. 148kph! Not good enough to play test cricket??
All down to kev and maxwell
-

It'd be interesting to see who'd win a test match. West Indies current side vs the t20 stars.
Gayle
Simmons
Bravo
Pollard
Russell
Sammy
Badree
That's 7 in this tournament of top of my head.
-
Why is the thunders keeper wearing Astro turfs to play in? That's village
-
Gilly telling KP to hit it along the ground! Got to love the irony!
-
The player cam/mic is a brilliant addition - the two games I've seen so far have had KP and Gayle doing it, I'm surprised so many of them agree to it when batting as I thought they'd just want to be in zone a bit
-
KP
-
Another 50 for KP in t20's! He's in some form. Decent knock.
-
We'd walk the World T20's if he was involved, still bums me out he'll never be involved again...
-
He's changed the game in this over! Some batting from KP. Changing gears!
-
What an over.
-
The quality of the bbl is much higher than the ram slam. But once Kp has his eye in it doesn't matter.
Boom!
Also Kp wore a shrey in South Africa, but a mauri here, is that due to the camera? Or a choice change.
-
Some average fielding here! Russell should be on that boundary
-
1 run win for the thunder!! Good game, good game.
-
So The Finisher doesn't live up to his name...
-
The finisher! Couldn't do it! Had a bit of a brain fade in the last 3 balls. Did he need to go for the scoop
-
It was the easiest option for a 4, if it had come off it was instantly a 4

Personally think the leg side slap for two (that he did about 7 of) was the better option. I am not aware that the scoop is a shot he plays (saw him play a few games for lancs last season). if he has been practicing that shot in the nets then BIG call to play that with 3 balls to spare. That means stars have lost both and up against it a little. Sometimes the most obvious shot is the best. IMO :D

He had a shrey on for the first bbl game, so I think it's just for the camera

Come on you Scorchers
-
WILLEY
-
Gee, it's really entertaining watching Sanga hit so cleanly over cover. Beautiful timing and technique.
-
Great insight by big Feddy about the interplay in the Heat dressing room last year... Amazing what the pressure of losing does to a team!
-
Freddy is a legend love him on commentary.

gayle not using his gold bat. Lucky early on but teeing off now
-
The big bash really is best enjoyed on mute. I've only just figured this out.
-
Lawford with the old hunts county clipper. Im loving it!
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
I doubt it's a Hunts mate. Gray Nics produce the County bats over here. The brand has been resurrected in recent years.
-
Lumb looked in fine touch tonight.
-
Peter Handscomb will be playing for Australia in the very near future....along with Whiteman and Doran but that's another post for another time....
-
Gotta love the send off for Maxy from Bollinger. One has a promising international career, one does not.
-
No KP? Handscomb was rubbish for Glos last year, another Aussie struggling when it swings it seemed.
-
KP has gone home. I still think Handscomb has a big future. The more county cricket he plays against the Duke, the better.
Most of the Sixers have no international future IMHO.
-
That 6 from DC was massive, onto the roof of the gabba! some effort that!
-
He's been a good signing for the Hurricanes, Brisbane are missing him
-
He's done absolutely nothing in shield cricket this year. Be patient and you might get him back again.
-
Some hitting so far from Lynn! Smashed Tait around that over.
-
Lynn's bat vey similar dimensions to Warners big edge ones! It's huge
-
Chris Lynn could be fantastic #5 in the near future in the Test side.
-
Chirs Lynn's bat

What they doing to the willow out in aus???
-
Wonder if they are still Lavers
-
First time I've seen an umpire wearing a helmet. Not surprised with gayle batting, about time it happened. Accident waiting to happen
-
Except it's finch teeing off and gayle 30 runs behind him!
-
Gayle's catching up! Smacking comm fav Hoggy.
-
Hoggy got some tap there.
How about that diving cited catch!! Took out a few other spectators like. But held on well!
-
All Ashton Agar has to do is pick the ball up and the commentators go mad about him. They really seem to love him for some reason.
-
What a great 100 by Travis Head
-
Great knock by Head. Fairy tale stuff.
-
Just finished watching the Strikers vs Sixers replay. Laughed so hard I wet myself a little.
-
Watching Strikers v Sixers now, and pleased to see Haddin being a badass and not wearing a helmet when batting against Rashid!!
On a separate note does anybody know why both teams were wearing grey caps rather then the usual colours?

watson really struggling with his batting, can't seem to buy a run. Yet Mr. Cricket still has it!
-
Watson looks shot.
Weather his ability is gone or its all mental after being cast aside by aus, I don't know. But he's not a threat anymore.
-
watson really struggling with his batting, can't seem to buy a run. Yet Mr. Cricket still has it!
Hussey could play international cricket still, bloke is class.
Cracking catch from Tim Payne as well, really want one of these Hurricane shirts.
-
A couple who we know moved to Melbourne in May, their parents have gone to visit so I've asked if they can bring me a big bash shirt back!
-
Hussey looks set to make the Aussies t20 world cup side, it's a no brainer if you ask me. Age is only a number
-
Tait should too with way he bowled at Kallis and Watson!
Something awesome about pure pace!!
-
Luke wright single handed lay trying to rescue the stars season here.
Stonis, Pieterson and maxwell not manage to stay with him.
-
Luke Wright hitting it pretty well. I would say it's good advertisement for his band but the branding is soo poor!
-
Branding is so poor.
Just seen the sides for scorchers game. Carberry misses out again. Shaun marsh dropped from the test seems to have cost him his place.
-
Catches win matches! The game yesterday showed that. Massive drop that. Cost them 16 already
-

Carberry was also dropped from the last Perth game. The Aussies love agar, would rather have carberry than him
-

I know he was dropped, hence using the word "again".
Agar bowls too. Which in t20 if someone is bowling bad, gives more options the more allrounder a you have.
-
100 for Wright! And he's probably taken his side home
80,000 crowd for a domestic game. Amazing effort from the Aussies! How long before the Ecb finally accepts franchise cricket
-
100 up for Luke wright! Well batted son.
"Second day dust" will fly off the shelfs........
-
Could not believe the crowd
ECB will never do franchise as counties in it for themselves and ECB won't fight them on it
They are part of the big 3 now so could open a window in summer to get big names here and get crowds in but they won't as counties will demand huge compensation for letting there players play
-
Surprised that Ashton Turner gets in ahead of Carberry when he didn't bowl at all last match.
-
That drop was village.
Wiley gets Maddison next ball though.
Maddison having a mare this season.
Willey having a decent tournament with the ball. Not quite top wicket taker like Rashid..........
-
Wouldn't mind that superman Sixers shirt! Never thought a Hollywood movie would advertise on cricket shirts!
-
100 for Wright! And he's probably taken his side home

Never mind franchise cricket. Playing the tournament in a 6 weekish block during school holidays is great. Plus the fact it's on free to air tv almost every night.
-
Spot on. Tickets are reasonably priced too. They are definitely doing this right.
-
Just got home from the MCG. That was completely unexpected, walking to the ground the people outside waiting to get in was ridiculous. Speaking to some of the attendants they had only banked on about 35K, so they catered accordingly in terms of the amount of bars and kiosks that were open. It was a perfect day for it, weather spot on, kids still on holidays and the game started an hour earlier than usual, so it was more of a family friendly time. 80K was insane, and the atmosphere was great, no drunken fools as you normally get at the Tests or ODIs. Big moment for the BBL, it is well and truly part of the Australian summer!

Chris gayle causing a storm and not with the bat...
Tried to chat up the interviewer. Commentators seemed in easy and wanted to move on quickly.
Ten minutes later they have issued an apology. And a statement saying it's not what cricket is about, not what they are abit and they respect all woman in the game, both players in the wbbl and others working elsewhere.
Mountain out of molehill?

How else do they expect men and women get together. Got to start somewhere. It was clearly tongue in cheek, I was loving it. Don't blame him either, she was rather tasty. Didn't look impressed though, rather stuck up if you ask me. Channel 10 apologising for it just makes the whole thing worse. If they'd have laughed it off, no-one would care

-
Just one from me watching highlights of today,
And Cameron Bancroft was at my old team for a season as our overseas,
Great lad very good keeper and a solid opening bat,
Came over with a load of Spartan gear Michael Clarke model snapped his bat in his second or third innings I think
Went up to headingly for a game and training with Derbyshire and got a bat made up, no stickers just plain as,
Went on to make loads of runs.
All the best to him

I finally realise why the commentators love Agar no

-
Yeah but what about the Zampa run out??
Can see a stretton/ayrtek headband being developed for future attempts.......
-
What nationality is this Kevin Pietersen bloke then?
With his form in first the Ram Slan and now the Big Bash he must be in contention for the World T20 ;)

And yes batsmen was given out.
-
Just saw this on Instagram, that had to hurt!! Did it break his nose?
-
Another close game. Runs for carberry after being dropped and Wiley with another all round effort
Not sure why you would leave Sammy at number 7 when you need 12rpo. Then again most BBL coaches seem to rate the home players better than the overseas
-
How many did carberry get?
-
60 odd from 35.
Wiley with 25 of 9 and a wicket.
Aussies seem to rate Willey, but Carberry is a strange one. Maybe himnopeningnover Shaun marsh isn't going to happen.
By they keep picking Harris over carberry(Harris went from 3 to open and carbs at 3 today)
Carbs failed once and lost his place, Harris has had one innings over 30 yet gets go after go.
In the second game! Limb took a screamer! He normally drills everything in this tournament. Lol
-
I'm so happy that Lumb is back firing, as he missed pretty much all of last season for notts through injury
I'm a member at Trent bridge, and I think during the month I was up there I only saw him on the pitch once - and that was throwing a tennis ball to his kid on the outfield during tea!

Sangakkara with a nude bat tonight. New sponsor on the horizon?
-
Sanga's bat has GN logo on edge. Is it one of Warner's?
-
Had a counter balance on the handle
-
Adil Rashid schooled the batsmen there.
He had an awful First over, yet still only went for 16 of his 4.
Two cracking wickets, should have had a third too. Lbw was hitting middle and leg according to halkeye
-
Rashid has been awesome, I thought he should have been in the Test squad to SA but looks like I was very wrong, this spell in the Bash should do his confidence the world of good heading into the WT20!

Strikers go from a average side to top of the league by adding Rashid a jayawardene.

-
dam those overseas players. Didn't someone say at the higher levels one/two players don't make a difference??
I believe that was me. Number one I was talking about amateur cricket. You don't get world class turning up to play Premier League cricket. Number two, there is not just one of them per team. Number three, come at me when they have single handedly won the Big Bash.
-
Travis Head and Alex Ross are both SA born and bred boys and have been two of the best players, so not just the internationals carrying the team.
-
I was far from suggesting they was carrying the team.
Just that the improvement in two areas has kicked up the performance the notch it needed.(more wickets and less runs by adding Rashid, and the ability to manoeuvre the ball about but Mahela)
Head is having a fantastic tournament with the bat
Biggest disappointment for me is craig Simmons. I loved the club cricket to bbl story, but after a poor start to this tournament, he seems to have been cast aside.
With Mahela slightly injured I thought he may have come back in. But nope.
-
they also made the semi finals last season so they cant be an average side. Ludeman was smashing it allover last season
-
Some serious hitting from Lynn! 5 six's in a row! one of which was 123M
-
Great hitting but I think the commentators got excited and called the 123m, pretty sure it was 103
-
Heat need to bowl stars out for 80 to stand a chance of qualifying.
There 5 for 23 with badree snagging all 5 wickets......
-
Chrissy Lynn better be in the T20I squad.
Badree always enjoyed watching this lad bowl
-
which commentator said before the innings began that he wouldn't bowl Badree in the power play, yeh good one
-
Spartan bringing out a flouro range according to commentators. Blizzard using a Green Bay and Botha using a pink one later allegedly
-
Catching this year has been pretty poor, 2 catches a game shelled minimum

Mark Waugh doesn't seem to be Gayle's biggest fan..having a small dig at him. Will be interesting to see if Gayle returns to somerset with Chris Rogers as captain. Chris Rogers has made his views clear on Gayle.
Anyway, Thunder cruising this game. Khawaja in a bit of form
-
everyone will have an opinion as when they played or were younger they did nothing wrong and were squeaky clean
-
What was the Waugh dig? I had guest which have been talking over the cricket.
Gayle has already had a dig back at flintoff rodgers and others in his goodbye Instagram post to the bbl.
he doesn't seem happy with anyone that's dared to publicly criticise him for what went on.
But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if cpl and ipl are all he appears in after this tournament.
-
After his batting last year if somerset do not sign him up then someone will so I expect to see him in blast as well

I had guest which have been talking over the cricket.

What an innings to produce with a place in the final on the line!
-
Well batted usman. Is there anyone in better form across all for mats currently?
As for the strikers.
Mahela is class but been out injured for last 3/4 games and his replacement john O dean has done a half decent job in his place.
Mahela fit again and straight back in only managed 7 and strikers got off to a bad start and struggled in the power play.
Should your paid overseas quit come back in? Or should you stick with a winning side?

-
Bit unfair Perth get their Aussie players back (apart from marsh) yet the stars didn't get anyone back.
Can the stars finally win a semi-final!
-
not really, the scorcher players weren't going to be playing in the ODI game, so release them yeh fair enough
Whereas the stars players are all likely to play in the ODI, so they stay with the national team.
country before club/franchise, simple
however I do think Cricket Australia could have been more forward thinking and arranged the ODIS series after the BB had finished
-
KP bossing this game! He's looked really good tonight! 50 up
-
Would love to know what Willey was saying to KP in the middle.
-
I wonder why KP isn't using the new Adidas stickers, does he just prefer the yellow ones?
I personally believed the Pellara was "his" range with him providing some sort of input into the colour scheme but since being dropped from England Adidas aren't going to use him as the face of the brand and therefore its not just "his" range any more.
What's your thoughts?
-
It's a shame that even for the final the star's Aussie players haven't been released to play!
KP in already
-
50 of 25 balls! In some form!
-
Maxwell didn't play in the odi and not released. Strange decisions.
Disappointed the mcc isn't a sell out. But then tickets were only available for 2 days.
Kp battered superb again
Interesting listening to politics and that it happens at these franchises. Stars sign Clarke and instantly make him captain. Cam white not happy at being outed as skipper so moves to rivals.
Clarke then drops out with only a few weeks before tournament starts. Hussey reluctantly takes over.

Khawaja looks like he's that Indian kid playing against the u12s.
It's too easy for him. No idea how he's not part of Australia's white ball set up.

Can't fit him into the side. If Bailey retired(not likely to his form currently is excellent) then Smith down to 4 and Uzzie at 3 is the only way he gets a game.

Maxwell didn't play in the odi and not released. Strange decisions.
Maxwell has a knee strain mate, couldn't bowl in the last match he played in and is being rested before the T20 series.

It's a shame that even for the final the star's Aussie players haven't been released to play!
KP in already
T20 series starts in two days, they need some rest after a five match series.

And yet Watson is in the squad!!!! Watson has been poor in general this big bash. Just turning up occasionally.
Lynn, head and Khawaja would be a good back up bench for if finch/Warner got injured. Not questioning Warners talent but he isn't even signed for a big bash team and couldn't get in his ipl side last season.
His test/odi form is much better than his recent t20 stuff.

Warner is the captain of Hyderabad in the IPL.
I don't see why Watson's in the side...
Khawaja's certainly unlucky not to be playing ODI/T20Is.

Might have been year before then but remember there was dhawan finch and Warner at Hyderabad and Warner got the least amount of goes.
Edit: that was definately year before as Hyderabad released finch, he went to Mumbai got injured and now Mumbai have released finch.

What a cracker. Great to see the Thunder get up.

Interesting listening to politics and that it happens at these franchises. Stars sign Clarke and instantly make him captain. Cam white not happy at being outed as skipper so moves to rivals.
Clarke then drops out with only a few weeks before tournament starts. Hussey reluctantly takes over.
White wasn't only outed as skipper he was not offered a contract. Not surprising given the whispers about him not being a great team man. Appears to have got quite grumpy as his form has dropped off and is regularly out of the Victorian team.

Seems to be a few high profile first class players now struggling to get a game in the Shield. Should be an interesting off season.
