Where did you get that from? You should be able to get a refund from that type of damage.

Small amount of glue and a bit of tape will fix that...

Had the same thing happen to my RNS a few years back! Was dry as anything inside.

Unlucky mate. Hopefully you get a refund

That's a real shame Batbuddy99 is probably correct lateral movement of the willow during growth  can cause bats to split across across the grains

How old was the bat?
Title: Re: Heartbreak
Post by: Gurujames on December 20, 2015, 11:55:33 AM
Is it dry as a bone inside? If so think about this equation

Big bat+light weight=broken bat

Post by: himanshuvohra on December 20, 2015, 12:51:22 PM
It was 3 months old.
And i wont call it a light bat, it was 2.12 when it arrived. Gave 2 coats of oil and i wouldnt call it dry at all.

So can we get some some on how it happened?

Were you trying to smash everything to the boundary, or was it a Carberry esque defensive shot causing the bat to break? In my mind it was the latter...

 Thats really sad.
Sometimes a bad quality ball can break a bat but not like that.

I am sure SS would replace this one. It looks like storm damage as batbuddy99 pointed out ... However i can understand how you must have felt when it happened. Had the same thing happen to my Kook bat. Horrible feeling ...

Do bat makers give guarantee on bats...I have only heard that they give handle guarantee. Would like to know if they do.

Normally yes  but it depends on what the damage is and how  the damage was caused.

2 consecutive cover drives, got one again in the slot, mistimed off drive and i check the bottom looked fine, when eyes went a little down saw this. Heart sank, got out the next ball.... :(

Heartbreaking indeed! I was in contact with a retailer recently, who said that SS don't replace storm damaged bats, as they deem it as an act of God as opposed to a manufacturing defect... Not 100% sure if this is the case, but please let us know what the outcome of your bat is!

Thats great service. Hard to replace a favorite bat, hope you get similar or better bat.

I dont think dryness can break the bat in half, has to be some structural problem or storm damage. one reason why English willow is used to make bats is because its light and strong.

I never doubted moisture content as it was not a light bat and me myself gave it a coat of oil couple of times.

What i have noticed in this and my brothers bat(which broke in a very similar manner)is that both these bats were knocked in by a machine and broke exactly at the border where machine stops knocking.

In my experience knocking through mallet and a ball is a lot better then getting it knocked by a machine.

I have always preferred the method of mallet over machine kncoking. I think that way you can selectively knock in and work out what's best for that individual bat. Although i am still thinking the probable reason what might lead to this. Maybe machine knocking creates enough pressure to lead to this. Maybe.

By the way how did you contact them Himanshu? Called them on the office number?
I personally don't feel ss are overdried, although drier than uk made ones, they survive without any issues if the proper care is taken.

Here in the UAE lot of CA MB and SS bats are used. CA & MB being the cheapest...also that they come with huge bats 42 to 45mm edge, 30 to 35mm toe and 65mm spine with weight range 2.9 to 2.12. So i guess they would super dry and most of the guys dont even oil it but they last dunno how. So it could be storm damage...machine knocking i doubt. But anyways good news is that you are getting a replacement. Did you try BDM ;)

yes, i still have that with me. Its still going strong but its pretty light for me. so dont use it much. i changed to bit heavy bats after i bought that bat.

and yes BDM was dry when it arrived, gave it a coat of oil 3 times.

but ss in my opinion are the best in india.

Looks like both bats broke just below the splice. Most of the bats CG point in in that area. i doubt it has anything to do with machine knocking, they both broke at CG point. A straight object can bend/break etc easiest at CG point.

Dilshan's CA bat just snapped like this when playing a ball. Seems like CA are extremely dry bats as well!
