Batting style: block or leave anything that's not meant to be played hard in the Vee
Bowling style: Medium pace out swing (do also swing back in)
Interesting fact about your cricket: Our national teams coach took me out of the draft, cause I can't block a ball. Said he'd never seen anyone drive a ball so cleanly, and block so bad. Oh, and I'm a qualified umpire!
-
Name : Cameron
Age : changes every birthday. Born in June 1994
Top score : 66* in a friendly. 42* (off 12 balls) in a svmchool T20 (that seems like a previous life now). A lowly 23 hiding down the order in league cricket (but I did average 27 in the 3rds a couple of years ago!)
Best figures 5-33 in friendlies. 4-20 in the league. 4-13 in T20
Team played for(1s,2s,3s etc): I used to captain the evening league and Sunday Friendly side.
I've played for every league side from 1sts to 5ths (need to play a 6th team game so I have the full set!) Reside mostly in the 2nd XI

Batting style: Depends on the game situation. Can go either brick wall or get a move on mode.
Bowling style: Right arm (non-turning) off spin
Interesting fact about your cricket: @FattusCattus described my bowling action as being like a less co-ordinated Paul Adams. If he was a frog in a blender, I'm apparently like a turtle taking a shït!

Name: Jamie
Age: 40yrs 7months, feeling old reading previous replies!
Top score: 76
Best figures: 4-10
Team played for: mostly 2nds, 1sts when required
Favourite bat ever used: current bat, B3 Mull. So much so I've ordered a twin with 50% offer
Best food to have at teas: any at our club. Best teas in the region, nay Midlands!
Batting style: RH opener. Try to be solid, consistent, productive through covers, getting better off my legs, can go big if others don't do their jobs
Bowling style: right arm slow filth. Think Collingwood, only much worse and without any variations. Once bowled a maiden in a T20.semi final. Next over bat dropped at long off then went for 24 runs off 5. Safe to say I was found out!
Interesting fact about your cricket: those who've seen my bowling, or weren't there, will never believe I took a hat trick in a fairly decent standard T20. Asked to bowl final over without warning, my figures went - . 6 6 W (bowled) W (stumped) W (caught and bowled) 1-0-12-3. Thanks for coming!

Interesting fact about your cricket: Been out in the 90's three times including for the dreaded 99 :(

Name: Malcolm
Age: ancient (51)
Top score : 93*
Best figures: 5-11
Team played for: several down the past 30-odd years, now at Kempton alternating between their 2s and 3s and very happy there
Favourite bat: Possibly my Aldred Gold Sovereign tho had a lovely 2nd hand Aussie GN Matrix 10 years ago that rivalled it.
Best food: can't usually eat much, just about to go out to bat or field
Batting style: stodgy opener, likes nurdling square of the wicket
Bowling style: deceptively slow left arm medium with an action that nobody could coach, swings like a banana on a good day
Interesting fact: bowled at a 15 year old Nasser Hussain in Loughborough University nets - reckon I had got him out a couple of times :) Oh and caught out the ex drummer from hawkwind back in the 90s
-
Name: Alex
Age: 23
Top score: 60 odd not out
Best figures: 5-9
Teams played for: Chesterfield barbarians until about 4 years ago in the South Yorkshire and Derbyshire league, then moved to Ashorne and moreton morrell for this season
Favourite bat: would have to be slaz sxi I had back in 2005/6 ish, but that will probably be my new h4l dvl when it's knocked in and in use!
Best food for tea: good sandwiches!!
Batting style: boycottesque but trying to be more expansive!
Bowling style: used to be Shane Watson style dodgy seam but this year moved to offspring die to a dodgy shoulder
Interesting fact: once played against the mcc and used to play with Ben slater (Derbyshire opener)

Oh, go on then!!
Name: Bruce
Age: 44 (waist size 36)
Top score: 58
Best figures: 8-16
Teams played for: Old Hamptonians, Chertsey CC, Mr Kipling Invitational XI
Favourite bat: A super-light Hits Hard Mojo which I foolishly sold on, and Wally the Warbird
Best food for tea: sausage sandwiches, angel cake, melon
Batting style: A furious collection of wholly innapropriate strokes to the wrong delivery, essayed from somewhere near square leg
Bowling style: used to be decent SLA, now huge dribbly in-duckers propelled at such a slow speed it confuses batsmen and they get out.
Interesting fact: On my highest score, I got to 36 before taking a single, I have dismissed an international player (to his disgust!)
There has been no mention in this passage of testicles.
-
Name: Matthew/Matty/Matt
Age: Just turned the ripe old age of 29 last weekend
Top score: 52* on 3 separate occasions!
Best figures: 4-2
Teams played for: Isel C.C, Baggrow & Blennerhasset C.C Village and proud :D
Favourite bat: Kooka Biggest Kahuna or Woodworm Flame, although my current H4L Hellfire and B3 Pepsi are awesome, haven't had enough time with them yet!
Best food for tea: Incredibly Northern. Will eat almost anything that moves or grows.
Batting style: Sashay down the wicket and heave across the line.
Bowling style: Either Colly-esque medium dobbers with lots of slower balls or disgusting off spin that doesn't turn very often.
Interesting fact: Due to various other commitments (work and being in a touring band) I haven't played a weekend game since my late teens so my cricket career of late (and therefore best batting/bowling stats) is entirely T20 based, I'm convinced that if I had played weekend cricket over the past 10 years my high score would be at least 53 maybe even 54 :-[

Name: Ben (although it seems I have adopted Benji for this forum)
Age: 16
Top score: 36 (t20), 34 (Sunday league), 12 (TVL)
Best figures: 4-6 (t20), 4-24 (TVL)
Teams played for: Royal Ascot CC, Finchampstead CC
Favourite bat: My Mongoose COR3
Best food for tea: Pulled Pork
Batting style: Can either play technically correct or try to hit everything over the bowlers head, usually the second method is more successful surprisingly
Bowling style: Right-Arm "whipper-snapper," generally moves away but depending on the ball sometimes it moves back in
Interesting fact: I played for Royal Ascot 2s before playing in the 4s as a 14 year old. No idea why, looking at my stats I'm not great.

It's not the stats that count Benji - it's the heart!!
Within that youthful pigeon chest of yours, beats the heart of a Lion!!!!!!!

me: Tom, Mils or Millhouse as my nickname with the lads goes as we all had to have one dubbed upon us one drunken eve at the club!
Age: 33 and a half.
Top score: 124* twice.
Best figures: 6-7 as a Yufffff in the 4ths.
Teams played for: Repped Bristol back in the day at U16's playing at Arundel against other regions, Bristol YMCA (having just escaped 1st team captaincy for the coming season after 4 seasons of it), Filton Wayfayers on a Sunday who have now sadly folded.
Favourite bat: Screaming Cat Professional, Thanks to Roco for trading it many years back, having purchased, owned and sold a fair few bats over the years I tried out quite a few from all the respected bat makers of yesterday year but due to engagement ring, wedding and a house purchase cleared out my collection a while back now.
Best food for tea: Partial to a bit of a plough mans, if you've ever had the chance to have tea's at Wormsley though they are something to behold!
Batting style: Aggressive, they didn't create 4 and 6's for nothing. Avoid trying to run between the wickets.
Bowling style: Left Arm might make it.
Interesting fact: Have kept wicket to Simon Jones and Steve Kirby and a few other lads who don't like the club cricketer trying to slap them out the park....needless to say the competitive edge of a pro never dies as Jonah clocked a lad in the ear 2nd ball who wasn't wearing a lid! Once scored 50 off 11 balls to reach a ton only to be told I'd ruined the game having had their opener try to bounce we out who went for 30 off the over.
-
Favourite bat: Screaming Cat Professional, Thanks to Roco for trading it many years back, having purchased,
You had one of my Scat Pro bats - are you sure it wasn't mine?

-
Yes mate only ever had one Pro, did have another G2 one as well that I think I got off here as well but sold on.
I traded a Screaming Cat Pro with you for a top of the range black titanium Ayrtek helmet which I still use. So what happened to that Scat? Or was I mistaken and it was a different bat I traded with you all that time ago Tom? :-[
-
Captaining, won 3 leagues in a row. Losing 1 game only in 3 seasons and got a write up in local paper.
Who wrote that? Depending when it was, could have been me!

Best food to have at teas: Anything, it doesn't last long around me
Batting style: Heaaavee
Bowling style: Right Arm Pies.
Interesting fact about your cricket: Due to being distinctly average i had the pleasure of 12th manning a game where a current International smashed 3 titanium masuris into pieces, some faeces may of escaped when he warmed up!

Name : Frith

Top score : 106* twice and 106 out.. Can't get past that score
Best figures 6/12
Team played for Played A grade in my younger days but have settled into our 2nd X1 in my old age
Favourite bat you've ever had: GN Elite back from the 90's (because David Boon used one)
Best food to have at teas: Beer ( Steak and 2 eggs in every can)
Batting style: Agressive but can play conservatively correct when needed
Bowling style: Right Arm rapid in my younger days but very gentle now
Interesting fact about your cricket: I seem to have this uncanny knack of dominating the good bowlers and crumbling to the pie chuckers. I love facing the fast good bowlers and trying to get on top of them... Not literally ;)
-
Name : Marc
Nickname Will-y. Wrote it that way to get past the filter
Age : 45
Top score : 104
Best figures 5/25
Games 269
Team played for Played B grade in my younger days and debuted in A grade, but cronyism stopped that with a new captain.
Play low grade one day cricket now.
Favourite bat you've ever had: my next one i hope (B3 Bowcaster coming) or mid 90s GN Ultimate 1000 Hollow Core
Best food at tea: curried egg sandwich
Batting Style: Opener, touch and punish pull shot.
Bowling style: Right Arm erratic in my younger days but leave it to youth now. Took 3/12 opening last season. Net bowling only now.
Interesting fact about your cricket: terrible arc backswing has destroyed my once mid 25 average in recent years. Could not drive the ball this season. Eyesight going prescription glasses now. Winter net practice and a fitness regime planned
Hobby: i knockin and do minor repairs to bats as a hobby to pay for my kit, club fees and drinking money. Its on facebook. Keep a photo album of each repair so others can DIY.

Name : Pete
Age : 50
Top score : 108 (Friendly) 97* (league - batted at 3 and wish I had of opened)
Best figures: 2 for 37 (Friendly) Don't bowl league!
Team played for: Two friendly teams and Watlington (League)
Favourite bat you've ever had: Seriously? Many could qualify including Scat Pro, Laver Sig, Fred Keeley 30 grainer, Salix, etc! Match bats in 2016 will be out of AJK, Scat Pro, and a couple of insane H4L. Will try to avoid tapping up too many bats in the meantime as I would rather not be tempted away from these!
Best food to have at teas: Easy to please! Ham & Mustard, Cheese & Pickle sarnies. Melon or bananas. Large cup of tea :D
Batting style: Learnt from Youtube so like to try and play as straight as possible - love to drive the ball!
Bowling style: Right Arm looping legspin
Interesting fact about your cricket: The first time I played cricket was in 2004 and 2005 (aged 39) - played a couple of games but didn't have a clue about technique (was natural fielder but didn't have a Scooby about bowling and definitely a no11 bat!) Only started playing at aged 41 in 2006 and averaged 1 with the bat - quality! Taught myself to bat and bowl via youtube and now open the batting for 1st XI, although at my age I would rather play 2nd or 3rd XI, but we currently only have a 1st XI! Oh, and also wicket keep occasionally which I do ok at, although a little tall and heavy to be that agile!!! :(
-
Name : Phil
Age : 34
Top score : 106. Best 1s score a hugely frustrating 99 :(
Best figures: 4-11
Team played for: 1s mainly but probably on borrowed time!
Favourite bat you've ever had: GM Purist Original from when Michael Vaughan was in his pomp
Best food to have at teas: Lidl chicken nuggets
Batting style: stodgy! Happy to tough it out when needed
Bowling style: Medium pace dobble or loopy offies (I'm a keeper!)
Interesting fact about your cricket: played 2 county matches at U12s batting once making 34* never picked again
Played once at the County Ground in Bristol making an embarrassing 2 ball duck :-[

Favourite bat you've ever had: Newbery Kudos 'Players'
Best food to have at teas: Pasta Bake or Cream Slices!
Batting style: Steady, can not hit out for the life of me!
Bowling style: Right Arm Medium Quick
Interesting fact about your cricket: Ive had numerous altercations with Ben Stokes during our Junior cricket days, which included me dispatching him over his clubhouse twice in an over, he the proceeded to hit me over it three times in his innings.

You've got a blooming good eye, and proof it's never to late to take up the game.
And that 30 grainer deserves its own thread, :)

Name: Alex
Age: 38
Top Score: 114
Best Figures: 8-2-17-4. Although I'm actually a keeper I've got 7 victims n an innings once (6 ct, 1 st)
Teams played for: first 18 months in the 2's last 17 years 1's
Favourite Bat: can't choose between my 1998 Warsop 5* perfection, 2003 Slazenger V800 pro or Newbery Samurai SPS.
Batting Style: Not really sure, depends on the game situation and form and confidence. Used to be quite a slow scorer, but I've become more expansive with age.
Bowling Style: used to bowl some filthy leggies but had a decent wrong un, until my back and shoulder gave up. Can't even trundle in in a net now.
Interesting Fact: I' hit the first ball a West Indies one cap wonder bowled competitively in England for 4. I also claimed all three victims of a hat trick my brother took
-
Name: Joe
Age: 23
Top Score: 186*
Best Figures: 6-16. Although I'm actually a keeper
Teams played for: Felling CC (the mighty tree!)
Favourite Bat: Puma iridium that I got given by Ian Blackwell and then it has to be my old GM Hero original LE
Batting Style: All depends on the context of the game, but I normally look to go after the bowling and apply the pressure back onto the bowler
Bowling Style: colly-wobblers
Interesting Fact: my first senior dismissal was Kyle Coetzer, standing up and kindly snicking off regulation thin edge however I must of fumbled it 3 or 4 times before claiming the catch
-
Name: Josh
Age: 22
Top score: 100*
Best figures: 4-26 - baring in mind this was the only season that I wasn't a keeper.
Teams played for: Chester County Officers (during uni) and Fordham CC when back home.
Favourite bat: Woodstock Curve - probably more glue in that bat than anything else now, but still goes like the clappers and picks up like a feather.
Batting style: Bat either 3 or 4, love a straight drive. Mainly focus on rotating the strike.
Bowling style: The offies seem to be coming out well this season in the nets. Would rather be behind the sticks like.
Interesting fact: Whilst keeping, the ball was knocked just past our gully. He picked it up and threw a wild throw in my direction. I had to move a fair way to my right, caught it one handed and through it behind me in the hope that it would hit the stumps. It did and the square leg umpires finger went up; the batsman trudged off in disbelief. Turns out the square leg umpire was actually telling the other umpire how many balls there were left in the over. Batsman was livid, class dismissal mind.
-
Name: Mark
Age: 28
Top score: 147*
Best figures: 5-21
Teams played for: Currently club captain and Saturday captain of Ashorne and Moreton Morrell where a few of the forum boys now play. @uknsaunders is my vice captain
Favourite bat: Rob Pack custom made. First time I used it in a game I was batting 3 and we lost a wicket first ball of the innings, I clipped the next ball through square for 4. It's only ever got better.
Batting style: 3 or 4, bat according to conditions.
Bowling style: Right arm off spin or some seam up stuff. Being captain I normally get myself a few overs ;) However I've spent the last 2 seasons most the time opening the bowling with my spin, which works well and I love bowling with the new ball.
Interesting fact: I have ruptured my ankle ligaments, broken my big toe and dislocated my shoulder all playing cricket. Not to mention breaking my toe again Last season from kicking the door having got out to a poor shot
-

You just reminded me - I did Judo from aged 5 up to very high level, then did Karate and kickboxing up until aged 35, and yet only ever had a couple of injuries. Also did gymnastics for 6 years and played rugby and district football as goalkeeper growing up and only ever had just a couple of minor injuries! And yet in the 10 years I have being playing cricket I've already had 2 broken bones (toes) So it's official that cricket is more dangerous than most other sports! ;)

Nice one guys. Enjoyed reading through all of these. Think I may give this technique on YouTube thingy a go can only improve on my batting. Also have a question for you all whilst you're here. Net bats?? Have to be very similar to match bats ideally ??

that's the mistake I made last season pal - I had a kaboom Test for match bat and I had a GN Oblivion LE as a net bat and they were totally different weights and pick ups so I ditched the idea of a net bat and just used my kaboom and that's when I started feeling more comfortable batting

Fact : Made matt prior sick in harbour lights nightclub, Barbados with some dirty vat of rum punch. I had already taken my tactical relieving of bridgetowns finest. Also had a great convo with Jimmy A over who was the best team to wear claret and blue.

that's the mistake I made last season pal - I had a kaboom Test for match bat and I had a GN Oblivion LE as a net bat and they were totally different weights and pick ups so I ditched the idea of a net bat and just used my kaboom and that's when I started feeling more comfortable batting
So maybe better to just stick to the 1 bat then. As feeling good in nets etc so hopefully can carry it into games. At the minute I have 2 bats 1 is 2-11 other is 2-4 so bit of a difference but the heavier is my new h4l so I'm hoping I can use it to be a bit more efficient with my drives etc instead of trying to bang everything over the line

Nice one guys. Enjoyed reading through all of these. Think I may give this technique on YouTube thingy a go can only improve on my batting. Also have a question for you all whilst you're here. Net bats?? Have to be very similar to match bats ideally ??
Like bats and techniques, you will have to experiment and see what works for you.
Personally I use 2'10/2'11 as match bat with a mid or mid/lower (but long) middle.
So in the indoor nets, which are a little bouncier than wickets I would generally use a slightly higher middle to counteract that. But there is also a theory that the bounce of the wicket is not important and that a batsman will generally hit the ball in the same area of the bat no matter what the bounce? Not sure how correct that is but I make sure that my indoor net bat has a mid or mid-higher middle.
Also my indoor net bat will normally be 2'12-2'13 - why? In my mind it is like weight training! I will use a heavier bat to counteract that slightly higher middle and also to try and build my batting working muscles up. In theory when I start using a lighter match bat it should make it feel so much easier?
When we move to outside nets in April, I will then switch to a match bat weight or even start to use my match bat. This is so that I can start getting used to a slightly lighter bat after using a heavier net bat. Plus the middle will be slightly lower than my indoor net bat (as we do outside nets on one of our actual match strips and therefore the bounce will be less than indoors!
This is the theory I use which may be rubbish in reality! But as cricket is a large part confidence, you will need to work with whatever gives you that confidence and whatever makes you feel most comfortable and gets you in the best mind-set?
Others will use the same profile for both nets and match. Others will use the same bat for both! Whatever works for the individual is best for that person!

yeah definitely mate or if you can get the same exact bat so you can have a net bat aha - but I'm just using my ghost but am on the verge of buying a Supernova from Vitas aha

Very sound advice mate. Think if I do go for a net bat your idea of a little extra weight will be a good idea.

used vitas for my h4l. Jakes a top guy and is willing to help with anything. Really could not speak highly enough of the customer service. at the time I was enquiring about a b3 but whilst I appreciate they're busy didn't reply to about 2-3 emails and when they eventually replied id already bought my bat from jake.

My net bats and match bats are all 2.14 and a half. But with varying middles.
Dotball high middled bat.
Westfield school low middled bat(it doesn't bounce)
But in a game a tend to use the same bat(high middle) on grass regardless as I believe I time it better for on the floor shots.
On artificial wickets I have a low middle bat with a huge bow, as find the pitch true to drive so generally drive a lot on the up.
Every now and again(once a month) I net with my 4lb training bat to add a weight training aspect, and build the muscles in the way I will sue them in the middle.

hopefully I can. Won't be this season though as think it's a little late to do anything like that this season will be starting outdoor nets in next few weeks and 1st game of season 16th of April. Hoping to hit the ground running with my h4l nv

haha good stuff bud. Surely that's a lump to swing though ? Not develop timing issues when using your match bat ?

Not that I've noticed, I bought it last winter off Chad and had my best Saturday season last year. Is doing some good for me.
But as my Hosk says, what works for me won't necessarily work for yourself.

fair enough mate. Glad it works for you. Don't think it would for me think I'd end up with timing issues. And when my only score is 6 and then next ball stumps turn to wheels I don't particularly want to loose my good average [emoji33][emoji1303]
