Hi All,
I would like to know if this is fixable? I need to use it as a net bat. I got a pretty good deal. Is it worth spending money?
-
Yep that's fixable. You'll need to unravel the tape to see whether the crack follows the grain over the shoulder or stems from the shoulder of the bat itself. If the former, it's a glue, clamp and dowel job, if that latter and it stems from the shoulder it will need glue and clamping as well as a new handle
-
Yes it's fixable wouldn't spend money on it though especially as its a net bat.
-
If I can't get it fix then using it as a net bat was my backup plan however If it is fixable then I might just it as a match/team bat.
-
I've had a few like this. As said if the crack heads towards the Handle, it's usually handle out, glue clamp and dowel then new handle.
B3 fixed me one a few years back which a team mate bought and it's still going strong. And it's used hard every game/net.
-
Did the same to my Warsop, fixed, good as new. handle replaced and glued but no need for the dowel. Always tape my bats around the shoulders now though.
-
How much did you spend for a new handle?
-
You are probably looking at £30-40
-
@tom line thanks mate! Do you know if anyone who can do it for me?
-
B3 should've be able to do the fix(they did mine, and it should 40 quid
Affinty just changed me a handle in a different bat for 40 quid to.
Sure H4l, red ink would be Abel to do it.
There's a few on here that may say avoid gray nics.......... @WalkingWicket37

Any batmaker on here will be able to do it more than likely, however if you want Gray Nicolls stickers put back on you'll need to send it through to GN Robertsbridge.

As its not a difficult repair why not save your money and have a go yourself at fixing it you could always get a professional repair if unsuccessful.

I might just do it. I have repaired few bats before so I will try to repair this as well.
-
Sure it can be fixed... and it can be a DIY repair... just like i did with this bat

Glue, clamps, dowel and binding....
-
@Cricket_PTY did it effect the performance at all? I was going to use super glue for wood and bind it.

Not at all mate... this happened the very first time i used this bat 4 years ago...... since then i have being using it frequently and no problems at all....in fact had some issues with the toe and i fixed aswell and is goig like a rocket !
-
I have another bat that has a crack in the toe. I need to get it fix. Did you use the same repair for toe? Is shoulder repair different than toe repair?
-
Same principle, glue and clamp, dependent on the crack it may require doweling or a lamitoe to support it as well
-
What do people use for the bind and how do you apply it?

Same method mate... glue... clamps and binding... no need of dowels this time....

This is how it looks. I was told it could either give me few seasons or few games. Is it worth investing?
-
If the repair is done well it should be solid, take the toe guard off and you'll the find the crack probably goes through the toe, needs opening up, glueing, either doweling through or a lamitoe and then tape/binding
-
What do people use for the bind and how do you apply it?
I guess the usual binding is the same as what you'd bind the handle with, then probably coated with PVA. Back in the day, I remember my dad and a couple of his team mates used fishing line as binding. Did the job and also rebounded off the fishing line well.
-
@tom line I am sending this to my mate who does this for living. This is a beautiful willow and I couldn't afford to take a risk. He is giving me a good price to get it fix. I am hopeful..

Remove toe guard, open and glue the crack.. clamp.... use 2 or 3 dowels depending on how long the crack is... finally bind it....
u will now know if is worth it until u do repair it and use it....
