If you have used one, you know how good they are.
What's Kranzbuhler's secret? What is he doing differently that makes his bats so good?
-
All opinion isn't it.
i've seen a fair few and some have been sensational, up there with the best bats I've ever had pass through my hands, others i've been far less impressed by.
Its very simple, if a batmaker/brand genuinely was lightyears ahead in terms of what they produced then in the short term thats all anyone would buy, and in the longer term the competition would catch up by imitating/innovating.
-
There's always a new flavour of the month ha, Kranzbuhler is just the latest.
Having never batted with one myself, what's the big deal? Find it hard to imagine they actually ping noticeably better than a good'un from any other high quality maker, and shape is both very personal and not exactly difficult to copy.

I've heard from a source that will not be named that SK pours a special Run Sauce on them when he is pressing the blade. It's an Oz GN secret recipe that apprently guarantees runs no matter who is holding the bat...
-
There big, they ping, and they pick up beautifully....... Atleast mine does.
Not a short term buy either, mines coming towards the end of its 2nd season in use. Nearly 2k runs and it's still going.
No idea on the secret though.

:D :D :D :D :D

For me, most of his bats dont have low or mid-low middles .... making them pick up better . The oz gn big bats were sights to behold shape wise , I'll miss them so much .
The specialist range aren't super huge , but are very full and have good coverage .
The handle shapes aren't everyones cup of tea , but are the nicest handles in the business in my books .
I also think theres something special about the shaping of the lower 1/3 of his bats (including the toe ! :D).
Lastly , ive owned a fair few and never had one break on me .
Btw @InternalTraining. .... I'm getting my next 'kransie' in 4-6wks .... I'll keep you posted (but you can guess for now :D ;)).

You are getting an Atomic. :D
I may get a Kranzie too...I will let you guess as well but I doubt that anyone can get it right. :D

Have you seen the "XXX" line of GN AUS bats? They are shaped like Warner but under 2-9. The "custom" XXX-11 model goes for the same price as the Warner; I netted with one in 2-8 range. I wish I had the timing for such a light bat but the ping on that thing...wooooooo!!!!!!

Nope , but are you getting a signature?

^ Great video!
Bob M. is very knowledgable about bats!
-
An insight into a genius , all clefts come from england , gn uk were talking about waste with the larger clefts shaping them down to size, stu played around with these & the big bats were born , willow is sourced from the bottom of the tree , they weigh about 5lbs initially & take approx an extra hour than normal to shape , always thinking of something new & innovative.

That makes sense since UK market is all about conformity and tradition. I actually respect the fact that he takes his time to shape a bat; I suspect bat makers don't bow (and correctly press the bowed) bats because it is a labor intensive process. I love how his bats are bowed and pressed!
-
Remember the words bowed & pressed , some big news coming on this from GN soon
-
Are we generalizing all GN Aussie made to be made personally by Kranzbuhler? GN Australia has more than one bat-maker. And as far as I know there's no indication on the bats if they're made by him. Meulemans state that their Warner replicas and XXX bats are made by Stuart himself, add the Legend Golds and the Legends(maybe not all).
I've seen people here say look for an 'S' on the shoulder but I think that's BS. The 2015 bats I've seen had an 'S', the 2016 ones all had a 'T' and from what I've seen here on the forum the 2017 ones have a 'U'.
Happy to be corrected :)

Be far to light for me. The big ones are mainly around my weight. So I'm happy.

There's no special ingredient here. GNs are well made bats. His bats are well pressed and the handles are good quality. The big edge and spine has been Stu's draw card for a few seasons. 50 Plus, Kaboom and XP80. Every time i post a big edge whatever my page counter goes wild. So all the big edge lovers are fully satisfied with Stus bats.
Then there are the handmade collection bats. Same traits minus the 50 mm edges. They are very good bats. Are they the best in the business....? If that's the question I think the answer is no. What about all the other hardworking bat makers out there making fine bats that are easily as good as anything GN makes, less the fact you may not be able to get a bat with big 50 mm edges.

I see your point but the consistency I have seen in his bats is rare. I think TK is the only other bat maker that comes close. For out-of-the-box performance in a "normal" sized bat, I'd take a CA any day.
-
I suspect this is the last season where we will see big bats released by GN AUS as: a. they will no longer make big bats to comply with new regulations; b. they will have used up all the stock of big clefts.
His "normal" sized bats are outstanding as well!
-

I agree with you @sarg! I don't like big edges bats personally. I prefer a balance/good pick up bat with 35 mm edges with full profile. I have few TK made bats and they are all 35-38 mm edges but their middle are amazing.
-
I'm in the UK.
I have tried to get a similar bat made up many times, even sending the kranzbular warner to said bat makers to copy.
Not one has come up with a similar weapon. Size pick up, balance and ping just aren't there.
There good bat's, there just not my warner kaboom(maybe I had an extra special one, many on here have seen it, so they can decide on that)
In fact the closest I have, is an off the shelf kahuna extreme. That is pingalicious.

Cant agree more on that. I also tried to have a copy made of my GN 50+ but it was very different in terms of pick up, feel & ping. And Kook Xtreme/Obscene are the closest in terms of ping to a GN big bat.
-
I think his name sounds more intimidating and powerful than his bats.
-
@adjal there are 4 batmakers at the factory , 2 with more than 30years experience , the big bats are stu's domain because of the extra time taken , retailers also pay for stu to complete exclusive ranges ie XXX , shaun marsh & kane williamson replicas + the unique legend gold , & i can tell you that ALL the 50plus made were of a supreme quality. @InternalTraining some big clefts still left , & will not be wasted , they are amazing to see raw , you would love the 30mm plus toes , 45mm edge velocity players & xxx11 hand crafted are available but selling fast.
-
Whats the difference between the XXX10 and XXX11?
-
Whats the difference between the XXX10 and XXX11?
Kranzbuhler shapes the 10, the XXX11 are specially made by Spinal Tap.
-
xxx11 hand crafted are available but selling fast.
By this statement I assume that only the XXX11 Handcrafted model (Top of the range) are actually hand made by SK then @Aussiecollector and not the lower grades/jnr models?
-
Stu & spinal tap are involved with all the top xxx range , the 4 models this season have all got the stu treatment.

If I ever went the light weight route, xxx-11 would be my bat!

This is directed at mainly Aus based members or anyone that has visited
I will be in Australia from mid-Dec to late Jan. I want a Kranzbuhler GN to take back to England with me for next season. Something similar to Mr Smileys beast but a fraction lighter
Does anyone have any advice about the best stores to visit that have a good stock of these, good customer service etc?
Also - would it be better to buy and get immediately shipped back or take back with me in my luggage when i leave?
I will be in most of the major cities at some point

Go straight to Mueleman in Perth. They have some amazing Kranzies.

Managed to acquire this absolute ridiculous monster for only $350nzd. Kranzbuhler made and oh my Lord.
Weighs 3.3lb has 52mm edges and a whopping 83mm spine. It is the biggest bat I have ever seen. I can still however swing it reasonably well.

Yes , i have a couple of examples ready to trial in games this weekend , initial netting has been good , customising the press & bow to a player's specs
-
Potzy. Thats a lovely shape mate! Much less angular than a lot of the 50+ ive seen.

Damn I’ll miss out on seeing them this weekend 😤

So desperate to get my hands on some GN Aus delights. Shame the pound is so weak and import and tax costs are so high.
-
Btw @InternalTraining. .... I'm getting my next 'kransie' in 4-6wks .... I'll keep you posted (but you can guess for now :D ;)).
What did you get?
-
I do think that there is a bit too much hype around the Australian GN's and Kransbuhler specific bats. I am not by any means saying they are bad. All the examples I have are good, varying from pretty good to exceptional, but I would would say other makes I have had are on a par with the exceptional ones, not necessarily better, but on a par with. For example I have a couple of GM players bats from Vitas which are on a par with the best GN Aus bat that I have, which is a Mueleman's sourced DW replica. They are all exceptional but my point is that other brands are capable of exceptional bats and that the mystique around these bats is a little overblown.

Yes and no.
The issue is %age of hits or great/exceptional bats you get from GN-AUS or Kranzbuhler. I have bought a few, my friends have bought a few and not one bad bat in the batch!! It's remarkable. I have had bats from some supposedly great bat makers that are touted on this forum and they are no way near 100%. One bat maker's 75% bats that I own are performance free. Compared to these numbers GN AUS and Kranzbuhler should be awarded knighthood in every realm! Keeley and CAs are also other brands/maker that turn out superb bats in much higher %age than the competition.

I'd argue that your small sample size of good CA's could be countered by the consistent dross that is sent in to me to be knocked in or repaired.

no, should be here by end of the week .

The XXX-11 bat has a FLAT face. As flat as it gets. The handle is skinny, same as the Legend and thinner than the XP80.
-
You reckon ???

Yep. The handle is skinnier and slightly different shaped. The xxx-11 is more oval at the top hand like the Legend, the XP80's handle is slightly rounder there.

no, should be here by end of the week .
Are the XXX bats available all over Oz or are they just available from one retailer, I have a mate who is keen to own one.

I am, the 1500 was very nice in the nets (so definitely keeping that) but I do also have a 2000, and there are so many other bats out there I really ought to try ;-)
-
In my opinion the theory of the XP80 having a weak toe was dispelled in last Sundays nets.
-
In my opinion the theory of the XP80 having a weak toe was dispelled in last Sundays nets.
Highest run scorer in our Division used xp80 this season. We have low bouncing wickets here in Southern California & during a match against him i bowled him 3-4 yorkers which he blocked without any damage to the toe. Willow being a natural product not all bats are same so few ppl might suffered toe damaged either by a mistimed shot or during the knocking. I got couple xp80 myself and never found the toe weak. Sadly it is not being made anymore. One of the best pinging bats i have.
-
Initial sales were low, then word got out & they went very quickly , along with the 50plus they will be always be sought after , game changing bats for those who can use them.
-
Gentlemen, my comment(s) about the toe were _not_ about it susceptibility to damage by yorkers. My gripe was that the toe area was dead and I wasn't getting any value out of shots against full/yorker deliveries. Now, I do have another (match) bat that just pings marvelously low down. The toe area of my XP-80 has held up fine against yorkers but it is just _dead_ ! No life.
Don't get me wrong, if bats were cars, XP-80 is a Ferrari! :D
-
PS: If anyone wants to sell their 2-12/2-13 XP-80, do let me know. I will chop off its toe and it will be so nice. :D
-
I have 3 xp80s... all have an ovalish top hand .
Yes definitely, but it's not as oval as the bottom hand. Legend/XXX-11 is more oval at the top hand and even thinner than the already thin handle on the XP80.
-

I sorta agree with you on the lack of power near the toe area on the XP80. When I got my hands on mine, I was just waving it around and did a tap on the concrete floor. The sound the bat made against the hard floor was unlike any other bat. It seemed the bat was pressed as a rock near the very bottom. But after knocking it in and playing a few matches the response in the bottom half of the bat is similar to other bats I have, so yeah it definitely got better and doesn't make that awful sound.
-
If you were lucky enough to grab one of the initial velocity xl2000 you got a bat based on an xp80 but with a thicker shoulder , blade & toe ,the toe is square , the middle is longer & the bat weight is the same
-
There are at least two in the UK. The guy that bought the XL 1500 from me (is going to give a write-up soon he says) has also played against someone with another.
