Just got to thinking about a few brands that have disappeared over the years, or more interestingly, ones that don't seem to be stocked as much or have lower profiles:
Ihsan
AS
AM
Surridge (bust?)
Matrixxxxx
Hammer
Roman Jaques
Kicking Horse
Funky
Do they just drift away through lack of marketing, do they need players on telly using their stuff to raise profile?
-
@FattusCattus if you mean Stuart Surridge - they are now Swannack - http://swannackmade.com/heritage/ (http://swannackmade.com/heritage/)

Nice.
-
@Churchy1989 - ooh! That's interesting about Swannack, they even do a Jumbo copy - I was quite interested until I saw the prices!!!
I think they might be based somewhere in Surrey?

PS (peak sports)
Always wanted a Ps bat as a kid. One of the seniors had one and it was a gun.

I love how they've called the middle of one of their bats the 'power hump'
'Lovely, got that one right out of the power hump' - Only to be read in the voice of Swiss Tony. (or Alan Partridge)
-
What happened to Willostix! Craved their gear when I was a kid, had a great social media and forum presence too. In fact, I managed to find an old junior Willostix Salamander last year as a gift to my partner here in Michigan- she loves it!

Softs and branding was spot on bats just broke in too 10000 pieces after a season, remember in. Pre-season game against the guys that ran Willostix 3 smashed into
Pieces and another 3 has bad damage

I'm awaiting a Carbine @Northern monkey ;)

Stac (used to love all their stuff)

What were people thinking of with some of these names?
-
Fusion
-
Woodworm (I think they are gone). Also, were all the bat made in UK?
-
Ah, but the greatest of all....
Open Championship!
I would love to find one of their bats in even halfway decent condition!
-
Woodworm (I think they are gone). Also, were all the bat made in UK?
Still going based in Redditch
-
Woodworm (I think they are gone). Also, were all the bat made in UK?
The woodworm gear is all found on The Sports HQ website. Unsure where and by whom the bats are made but Woodworm were sponsoring Ian Bell very recently and possibly still are (although I’m unsure of this)?

I have a Classic bat company Rapier and a DH Reaper in my small vintage collection.
Think Classic were in the Bristol area and folded a few years ago. Don’t know much about the DH one, think it is from the 80s though
-
Still going based in Redditch
Thx. Did not realize that they were still in business. I remember Flintoff and Pietersen (sp?) using them couple of years ago.
-
I was going to say CJI but a quick google and their stuff still available. Our half-blind slogger swears by them.

I’ve just picked up a 3lb 7oz cji sumo lam - ping is ridiculous!! Not sure I’m man enough to use it tho!!

Batmaker called it a day believe he asked on here if someone wanted to learn the skills.

75 quid for 3lb 10? I'm tempted...

Not gone I don’t think but HitsHard element of Salix I’m not sure about.
Also Salix, don’t hear or see anyone post much on there thread, obviously still about and maybe it’s now living in Suffolk with Hunts & Garrad & Flack but can’t remember seeing one (except mine) last year

Piri piri
Stac (used to love all their stuff)
Piri Piri are doing cricket coaching in Essex. I don't think they offer their own brand bats or gear now, they have a partnership with Kookaburra.
-
SAF bats, I used to love Andy’s ask the batmaker
-
Vantage
-
Batmaker called it a day believe he asked on here if someone wanted to learn the skills.
They are still going but focused on the training aid side of things, stumps used globally by lots of international teams. We spoke to them way back when about developing new products but sadly nothing developed from it.
-
Vantage
Been sold a few times and most recently purchased by DFCA who runs a cricket academy here in Bristol.
Id imagine quite a bit will pop up locally this forthcoming season.

Basically for weight reduction on my current bat but might come home with new one.

I bought CJI blank bat kashmir willow for 40. Very cheap but I hit massive sixes with it. Opposition was in shock.

Ihsan are still around and doing well (in Pakistan). They do not market themselves as aggressively as as some of the other local brands (CA, HS, Malik) but their bats are not notch and very good value for money.

Ihsan is around and very much alive. In fact, it is one of the more popular brands where I play. A buddy of mine has an X1 that pings better than anything I've used in the last couple of years. There's 2-3 guys in the Pakistani national team currently using the X1 as their bat of choice.

Weren't the bats Salix made (at least some of them anyway).
-
Affinity still very much alive. I have a nice Carbine that I bought through the forum. They have the Voodoo now with a higher middle than the Carbine (mid) or Spectre (low). And they can make one to your specs.
-
Been sold a few times and most recently purchased by DFCA who runs a cricket academy here in Bristol.

I knew that IW sold it to a guy who owned quite a few businesses - but it seems to have gone extremely quiet from there.
-

I believe it was only their one model that was made by Salix. Can't remember the name but I'm pretty sure it was the one that was lazer-engraved.

Solitaire
-
Solitaire
Still going I believe, they released a new range of stickers last season. Still see plenty of them around the Worcestershire Leagues
-
See - this is brilliant knowledge!!!!
It dredges up a few thoughts -
i) I once had a massive lam from Ihsan which was awesome (but didn't last long) from the Hosk - wouldn't mind another one of those again
ii) I think Willostix might have started out or finished off with Larsons stuff (but I'm happy to be corrected)
iii) I really, really want one of those new Swannack Jumbo shapes, might have to sell all my spare bits and bobs to get one (as I am financially responsible :))
iv) AS bats are right off the radar, there was a time when their V10 (?) was briefly a hot commodity and very good value for money
v) Does anyone remember many of the brief lives of stickered up brands on here? (Bosom, Talisman, et al?)
-

Would say amongst teams from south Worcs Solitaire in 2017 was very popular.

Choice Willow
-
I don't think Gary ever marketed Choice that hard anyway, they may have been quite a 'local' brand to his area. Lovely bloke though, and makes a good bat.
-
Here's one for you forum old school lot......
Instinct Cricket
-
Oooh! I loved instincts graphics, and the bats were pretty good - sourced through Brimblemort, so either TK's or maybe Larsons. The couple I used were really, really good, but nothing revolutionary, simply good sourced willow I think.
How about -
Itias (best softs ever Tom!)
Bosom Bats
Blenheim
FatBats
Helios
Crusader
Kali
Centurion
-
TK made I believe, sourced via Brimble.
I remember the Soviet branding! @procricket wrote a heavy review on one of the sticks

I might be miles off but didn't they get their softs made in the UK? Weirdly just came to mind so unsure!

Softs made in the Uk would surely be astronomical!

Sweet may have to get one as used to get discount through old club and was kitted out in black prince stuff
Top quality all round

A lot of people in our league used to use the Centurian gear as one of the players pushed it a bit.
Was decent kit and the bats always seemed to perform well.
They had a model of pad that was similar to the Surridge pads Gooch wore with a strange knee joint!
Any more details on the brand or what happened to them?
-
I think it was all imported and stickered up, but it was good stuff. They did a bat in a similar shape to a Jumbo. was endorsed by Devon Malcolm I think (which come to think of it, may have affected it's longevity!)
Re-appeared briefly in Essex a few years ago.

AM Bats - quality bats - like most Pakistani brands they don't market themselves well and they used to have the most horrible stickers but have improved massively now with Monarch and Excellent model bats.
Way better value than some of the more well known brands. Think Fusion used be pushed everywhere... I also remember classic bat co and Zenith back in the day...
-
Who's selling AM bats in the UK?
-

Lekka
I missed the whole kerfuffle that got Lekka banned and my own first contact wasn't pleasant. I have noticed though he has calmed down.
Maybe invite him back? (He says while lighting the touchpaper and running away bravely)

Just in case you don't know and theres no one around the Stac unit is behind the cricket pavilion.

I've always bought direct from them. Don't think they have an official distributor. See some on ebay. Think UZI Sports used to sell them and am sure they could still source them?
-

. I used to be get free kit from in my younger days neal Patel was the owner he pasted away about 3 years ago and Jon corps worked at the wickford place had a two lane net there. Had a net with Clayton lambert. They had a bat bat that was like the v800 called the Kingston think they were made by crown

We should bring back Pinson, fasteddie and Lekka, put them in a single thread and watch the carnage unfold

Talisman
Black Cat
-
I know they're still around because Jimmy Anderson uses them, but here is Australia Slazenger has disappeared off the face of the earth. Once Clarke and then Steve Smith stopped using them the market has well and truly diminished for them.
-
Talisman
Good bats - I think most were TK made - but the last I heard of the proprietor was that he was pawning his parents jewellery to keep the wolves from the door

I wonder if Japanese customs see much cricket-related business these days?
-
This might be me imagining things but I’m sure there used to be a brand called
Stick bats
They had a model called fire which was red and I’m sure owzat stocked them at some point
-
Popped into Cricket-Hockey (https://www.cricket-hockey.com/) near Salisbury yesterday. They're still stocking their FUNKY brand but have gone big on all the major players. They try and stock everything available from the suppliers they use and they have a huge bat stock. (It might be the largest in the country.) I like the fact that you can see full stock availability from the website. Didn't realise how big their hockey, snooker and darts stocks are too. All in all a good place to while away some time.
-
They own funky hence the strong link into Hampshire previously with the kit.
-
Cricket-Hockey still run the shop at the Rose Bowl but I don't think there's any Funky branded Hampshire kit around anymore. They don't have any sponsored players left either. You still see a few bats around the Hampshire/Southern leagues. There's a few good specials on the web site.

I wish Symonds come back in existence somehow. KP would be happy to be their ambassador ;)

This. I would love another Tusker in a funky shape!
-
Loved my Stac gear and my first bat was still just about the best bat I've ever owned. Don't like the current stickers though. Older ones were much classier!
-
I’m sure I had a Baronet Cricket bat at school in the midlands, as did a few of us (25ish years ago)
Do they still exist?

Bernie Facer used to make those from his shed in Buckden, about 10minute drive from me. My first bat was a custom made Baronet.
He stopped making them and went to Work for Hawk. My guess is he’s probably retired by now

I still have 2 of these bats - they are such good quality! But as they were made by TK from the pick of BC's own willow plantation, they were always going to be decent!!
-
Also what's happened to Black Cat? Had some great looking sticks + decals back in the day but last active on the forum 4 years ago
True...I remember when I had first joined this forum a few years ago, Black Cat were supposed to the gold standard of cricket bats. Never saw any in the past 2-3 years on the forum.
