I've just seen this evening that the former Somerset Chairman Andy Nash has resigned from the ECB as a director.
Interesting times ahead if what is reported is true.

On the surface it's a fine gesture, but he said nowt when Durham were shafted, but when it's his county that's missed out...
-
In the event of an independent inquiry, one obvious area of interest would be the on-going situation whereby Yorkshire, who fared well both in major match allocations and in terms of being awarded the right to host one of the new T20 teams, owe family trusts set up by Graves over GBP20 million'
How on earth is Graves allowed to do that?
-
I said at the time Durham got absolutely shafted by the ECB with demotion. the double standards is beyond belief
Yorkshire as well as having a 100 grand loan(hand out) from London to pay for ground improvements are being kept in the black by the personal wealth of Graves and have been for years.
You can say all day long the test grounds need to be brought up to standard and improved but the test 'club' has been so small no one else gets a look in.
Why can't we have a test match at the Somerset ground, the Kent ground, Northampton?
Either we have 18 counties or we don't, if they don't want them scrap everyone else and keep it to 6, then the game will go to hell in a hand cart.
Honestly, it makes my blood boil! :) I support Middlesex by the way, not Kent(although my mate players for them) Northampton or Somerset.
What about a test at Chelmsford ? Post match a good night out in the pubs and club with half dressed Essex girls all in identical white heels and too much make up?
-
Typical gesture but has done nothing useful in his time on the board. He’s stood there’s while the ECB have continued a downward trend in the game. He’s yet another one to blame and is trying to save face.
Shame
-
This is a difficult one - personally, I think it is a poor decision to have an ECB chairman given the level of power that the role currently is drawn from the counties - whether that be Graves, Bransgrove or whomever. With that said, Graves has actually done a halfway reasonable job of not displaying overt bias in the role - he seperated himself from the running of Yorkshire, and stopped putting money in to the club for the duration of his tenure. Thats more integrity than has been displayed by the Idiot von Strauss, for example...
...but this is still a bad, or at least badly explained, decision.

Well he said nowt publicly, I think this is the extra straw.
There must be some fireworks at the ECB meetings.

Good to see you focusing on what's important as always mate :D

You could argue that the Durham issue was of much greater magnitude than this - even though it's still pretty weak from the ECB - and a non-partisan voice would have had more of an impact then.

I'd say this is bigger. The Durham issue - whteher you agree or not with what was done - was essentially a response to one county overreaching. This potentially stitches 14 counties up (15 if you accept the argument that Middlesex derive no benefit from Lords internationals), to a greater or lesser extent.
-
But why were Durham overreaching? Giles Clarke and his nest feathering - which stretched the definition of good governance in the first place. It was like giving toddlers a load of sugar and then shouting at them when they go batshit.

As much as Clarke is a target for opprobium in these parts, I am not convinced you can entirely blame him. The decision to require Durham to build a test match ground as part of the conditions for their entry ot the First Class game was taken years before, and he did not force them to overpay players in pursuit of success (look at how their problems were first indicated by the breaches of the salary cap and how they came about).
-
But the bidding process was a Clarke 'innovation'.
-
As much as Clarke is a target for opprobium (sic)
Did you know that an anagram of 'opprobrium' is 'prior bum op' - very apposite for Clarke I feel :D

I was not aware of that.

An emergency chairmens meeting on the 29th has been called. It in the article it looks Glamorgan were helped with a payment to deal with creditors. Just a shame that Durham weren't given the same leeway as Glamorgan.

Durham should sue the ECB.
-
They should certainly challenge the current plans for Cardiff. Seems the Welsh assembly got a much better deal than they did.

Turns out that Glamorgan actually got 2.5 million for not applying for a Test match. If I was Durham I would be going mental! Surely Graves time is up.

It's a pretty shocking revelation, will be a very lively meeting when the chairmen meet up! Not sure how Graves can stay Durham got given 3.5m and relegated and points deducted!
-
"The Times understands that ....... Headingley will receive £1 million, Old Trafford will receive £500,000 and Southampton will also receive £2.5 million."
Wouldn't it be more efficient to give the money directly to Cricket South Africa? They can pay the Kolpaks to stay at home and we can give some kids a go.

This absolutely stinks.as I posted at the time Durham CC were treated absolutely terribly.
Glamorgan CC gets funds from the Welsh assembly, has done for years, so yes, that's taxpayers money.
Graves should go and get someone in who can remodel the whole thing including TV rights.
-
Very generous for the ECB to give Glamorgan 2.5 million for not hosting a test match. If I was one of the smaller counties I would be demanding the ECB to receive some of that money as well.

Jesus, there are already a she’d load of rank bang average county players let alone allowing more in

In matters closer to home.... another one bites the dust....

Richard Thompson is a good guy. Things must be bad at the ECB.

External review to take place about the payment given to Glamorgan.
