Evening y'all
The 2018 season must be getting close as our nets went up today! As such I had my first hit of the season, and actually remembered my camera for once.
Looking at my YouTube it's been 364 days since I last filmed a net session. I'll make a conscious effort to get footage of a few more in 2018.
Anyway, enough waffle, here is the footage from today
https://youtu.be/7teAWsFs3Po
As always feedback much appreciated (as long as it's not "give up" anyway)
Cheers
Cam

Great batting mate!
-
Surely, you should have called it the 'Cam Cam'
-
That's a deft little dab you have down to third man there in your shot armoury!

(No Swearing Please) cut isn't it called?

Cheers mate.
Hopefully it comes in handy to turn the strike over this season.

Not sure if you wanted to defend mostly, but you could drive some of those fuller balls where you are defending instead..

It was my first hit with a new stick, so I wasn't looking to play any shots really.
You've got to break them in gently, after all :D

Today's game was rained off, so a few of us went for a net this afternoon.
Here is the video footage of my bat. It was pretty horrendous to be honest with you, so hopefully people have something to say on this one.
As always, any feedback or tips appreciated. Enjoy the footage of me being cleaned up :)

I do love the dab you play.
You always seem to have loads of time to hit the ball where you want, and you tend to hit balls in a different place to where I’d hit them, but it works for you.
Mainly try to hit the ball on the floor more and you’ll be fine ;)
-
Another day, another game rained off and another net.
Again not fantastic, I nicked off and got bowled playing a horrible heave!
As always, feedback and advice welcome :)

Better, a lot more intent
-
Just a simple one - why does your trigger vary so much, is that a deliberate thing to different bowlers or anything like that? The position you end up in at the moment of delivery can be hugely different from ball to ball, unlikely to help with your consistency?
-
this probably won't be news, but if you look at your body and head position for the shots you play well, you'll notice that you're always playing under your eyes with a strong base. the shots you don't connect with so well are usually where you've played away from your body.
-
Not advice as such but you look a lot better when you play aggressively.
Whey you are blocking/defensive it feels like your hands are stuck to your waist and everything is a little jittery. When you play more aggressively your hands open up and you look much smoother.

agreed, Cam can look quite tentative when he chooses to defend.
maybe try to defend more aggressively? really commit to the defensive shot and play it with purpose in the same way as you play attacking shots

I was facing an off spinner, a leg spinner and a seamer.
It may not have been a conscious decision, but I've got a feeling I trigger differently for different types of bowling.

The danger of doing this is that I may start pushing at the ball again, I've spent a fair amount of time trying to defend with soft hands and don't want to fall back into bad habits.

Fair enough if that's the case, def worth having different methods for different types of bowler, but also def worth paying attention to if you're not doing it deliberately - could easily get you into trouble.

Footage from a few weeks ago (the last Bank Holiday Monday)
Took me a while to get round to uploading this one.

Practice playing with a straight bat and that will help with shot alignment and power generation. Just play with a straight bat and you will notice a shift in your body position and alignment.

10 months after my last video, it's time for an update to this thread.
First up here is some footage from the Southern net a couple of weeks ago.
You may have already seen this as it's on the Southern Net thread

And here is some footage from my latest club net.

As always any feedback, tips or constructive criticism is welcome.

Just my opinion, but looks like your front foot movement is closing yourself off quite a lot and would make playing through the leg side harder, and may make balance at the crease when playing to leg tougher.
Best shot imo is about the 1:40 mark where you advance, really commit to the shot and get your hands cleanly through the ball, like some of the previous comments I think you look at your best when playing aggressively.
-
From the footage Cam your have a very rigid finish to all your shots which for one will impact the power you get into your shot. Secondly if you look at when you have played the shot nearly every time your foot are both outside leg stump so it appears even though you have a trigger movement to get in line I assume? You actually back away and finish playing quite a lot of the time with the bat away from the body.
Hard to tell from the bowling but unless everything was back of a length very little forward pressing with the aim to play on the front foot. You look like a tall chap so make the most of your height.
Hope that may help mate

I second this from Chris, there are shots that you aren’t attacking that you are just proving at from neither in the front or back foot. I think from the videos I’ve seen of you cam that you may struggle picking up length a little.
Personally I think you need to work on trying to identify a length quickly and then committing to either front or back foot.
As I say, there is some shots you’re playing from a middle ground and just patting back that you could either play a back foot punch/ cut, or even just run to thirders for a 1
-
Cam cam cam,,,,i always think when I watch your batting,,stop the poncing poncing poncing then decide to do something
More of the 1.40 mark, pick the length, and commit to the shot, and knock the f%%%%% out of the ball
YOU do this very well, I’ve seen you do it, your a big powerful hitter
You do this more often and bowlers will fear you, as will fielders,,,you’ll possibly enjoy your batting more, and maybe score some decent scores
Then again, I’m just a northern slogger, what do I know.

The season is just round the corner!
I helped put the nets up yesterday, and got to have a hit in them today.
Here's the footage from today's net, my first outdoor session of 2019

The field settings for you would be fun.
6 - 3 legside field, no one in front of square on the off side...
Plenty of cow action.

Funny you mention this, the bowler actually had an imaginary field set of:
Slip, point, extra cover, mid on, mid off, mid-wicket and a man on the 45, with a sweeper on the off and leg side.
That imaginary field did influence some of my shots as there was an "easy single" square on the leg side
-
Interesting to see you coming down the wicket before you've seen the length. As a spinner I'd be licking my lips when I saw that...

Can also help to knock a bowler off their lines too though. Depends on who, what when Etc

This guy has bowled at you how often?
Have you ever played a sweep to the 45?
Mad skills.
Slip third man on one, gully maybe point instead
Square leg on one, midwicket on one
Midwicket boundary
Straighter midwicket boundary, about halfway between long on and midwicket, on the fence
Long on.
Someone else around floating on the leg side in an odd position, who you will pick out despite it not being a recognised position
-
@Buzz maybe he set that field as he doesn't know my game that well.
He's only been bowling to me regularly for the last 10 years or so...
-
I bowl straight, stump to stump darts and would have a 6-3 leg side setup with 3 boundary riders on leg side, squarish midwicket, long on and cow. 45, square leg and midwicket
Off side would be backward point, 3rd man on the 1, and cover.
-
4 slips, 2 gully, point, short leg, short fine leg
-
Nice reverse sweep in the first vid. I admire your skill at running the ball down to the 3rd man boundary.
-
What camera do you use? I would like to start doing this as well.
-
Hi Cam. Long time :D
Three things I would advise;
1. Bat off leg and open your stance a bit. You get SO far across from middle that If I were your mates, or the opposition, Id bowl around the wicket all day to you...
2. Elbow high when hitting straight. Keeps your shape that way and you are less likely to spoon something straight up or drag the shot across the line.
3. Head still at point of impact. A bit like a golfer, do not lift that head until the ball has been hit to keep the timing and control of the ball.
Also, at one point your mate says 'that cut shot is not always on'. I agree with him completely. Its a very high percentage shot. As you get so far across, it might be worth getting in line and working it into the leg side for a single. Less chance of getting out that way...
However, as I said, that's my advice. :D
