Title: Most Comfiest pads?
Post by: Yorkershire on December 01, 2018, 09:28:35 PM
Currently have a pair BAS players.

Tried GN Legends.. although initially excited, I just couldn't do FKW and sold them.

Think I want a new pair for pads for next year... not keen on Morrants, so let the recommendations begin... oh I also dont want to pay over 70 quid :P

Anyone tried GM Originals?

I found GM sorts quite bulky. That was 2/3 years ago so may be better now.
I found Puma ones to be excellent. I had some in the 4000 and 5000 range.
Sorry but I’m a big fan of morrants and will probably get another pair for the new season

Best from my current array of pads and can’t remeber any being better are my Adidas XT2 pads under £70 and decent light weight feel but top level protection

Don't like the kneeroll on the pumas  :(, any normal looking ones.

Adidas might be good shout.

GN legend softs are the best that I have come across.  I have tried other brands from time to time but nothing has been as good in terms of weight, comfort and flexibility

These do look nice!

How does Adidas grade its pads? 1 to 3? 1 being the better price models?

What's this a precursor to?

Neon cricket pads are amazing and near enough on budget.

Aero P1 Leg Guards! They are feather light for running between the wickets and getting close to the pitch of the ball.

I used to own Morrants as well but found Aero to be a better and lighter product.

I have two pair of legend pads and absolutely love them. I don’t even feel like I am wearing them plus every time I get on my pads, I don’t feel anything. Amazing protection on these.

I've recently bought a pair of GN Prestige pass from @leatherseat and they are the nicest pads I've ever worn - really comfy, soft padding in all the right places including towelling on the straps and they look great as well.

I can see why so many people like the Legend pads but from what I've seen with the Prestige they would be ideal for you and within your budget too.

My Choice pads are the best I have ever worn in all my cricketing years (and that's alot!). Very comfy and light and perfect fit. I have the old Trafalgar ones which have been replaced in the price bracket by the Varangian or Black Prince pads.

If you like those you'll love the unbranded version from OS for a third of the price!

I had kook pro players edition and they were something else. As most will tell you on here I have tried every single pair of pads ever made (not really but my reputation goes before me...)

The only reason I have them no more is that they fell apart from lots of use.

I have since replaced them with GN pro performance pads and despite only trying at home they feel really good. The knee roll isn’t too bulky either like the legends can be.

Don’t worry about being a FKW, you see so many people doing it now it’s not really an issue 👍

I had used ss test opener in past but a friend nicked them from me.
After that i have used many brands and top of the range pads but here i am back to ss test opener.
I would rate them comfiest and not very expensive.
Used by many internationals too.

Ayrtek
H4L
M&H

All super comfortable, light and have more 'extras' than many of the big brands. Dont underestimate towel backed straps, especially when netting in shorts. When doing that I've found the mesh backed straps (SS, Newbery, and more) to be quite irritable.

Never used GN but not surprised by the endorsements at all, seem like very nice pads. My issue would be sweat stains on the white foam padding

The pads are identical to the Choice model mentioned above minus the branding. Used mine for 3 seasons now including nets and have had no problems

Purchased them just to net in but they have been comfy enough to use all the time. Not saying they are the best on the market just that they are as good as some priced alot higher

Yeah I'd 2nd that - I had the original version (along the lines of the MH T2). I've had 2 pairs of traditional pads since (BS GP Verizon plus the H4L customs I have now) and both have been really well made etc but certainly not as comfy

Personally I think there are 2 different types of 'identical' , looks on a screen and what you actually get. I have seen what you get from OS from when guys at my club have purchased from them and believe me, they are nothing like the quality of the Choice pads.

I am leaning towards the Adidas XTs... might stretch myself and get the 1.0 s. liking the styling...

Lets just hope I purchase before I change my mind... many distractions here!!! :D :D :D :D

Another vote for Puma here. I've had a pair of the white/red/black Platinum 5000 for the past few seasons. Very lightweight, comfy and well padded. But not quite your traditional-looking pad. A bit more contemporary but not nearly as far out as an Aero pad. I have Youth and at 5'8 they fit me very well. I've now just bought a pair of white/silver Puma Evo SE in the Pro Direct sale after looking at pretty much every other manufacturers' pads.

Life as a CBF member..

So got GM pads.. said large so returned them as I had seen GM pads with 'mens' written the packet, only to find out that Large was mens in last years model ***duh!!!!***

Anyway... have ended up purchasing some SS Test Openers... heard people  speak highly of them so thought I'd give them a go..

I *think* I have now have my kit completed for next year:

Bats: GM Mythos Signature /AM custom/ GM Noir 808 (but May Sell the Noir  as I only want 2 bats for the season)
Gloves: AM Monarch / BAS Players Edition White
Pads: BAS Players Edition/ SS Test Openers
New Trousers: Puma Trousers (bought a few seasons back bit finally fit me)/NB trousers - Really feel the difference with premium trousers
Spikes: Batting NB CK10s (were tight for em but got a shoe stretcher and stretched them :) )/ New NB CK4040 Bowling  boots fro fielding as I have bad ankle

Now can I survive until the start of the season with no changes....  :( :( :( :( :( :(

What made you to even think of another pair when you are using bas players.
I have ss test opener and i am thinking to get bas players edition too.
Whats your take on both of them and how do they compare against each other.

Bas players were good. Mine are getting a little battered.

As always want to try something new. I think the SS feel way more premium than the BAS pads but didn't like the red colour. Sent them back now. As I'm waiting on unbranded pads from OLS.

Still like my BAS pads but looking for a change... who knows I may come full circle and just get another pair of BAS pads... :s

I bought my first pair of Legend pads almost 2 years ago. I have yet to see any wear or tear. I also have a pair of B3 pads and after few games, they started to rip at the base of bottom strap. I haven’t noticed any of it with Legends and I shared it with my friends and they also complimented how light and comfortable they feel.

I am considering the legends for next season as ive read some very good reviews. One question, how do they size up? I am 6 feet tall but prefer a smaller fit, have had to get a small mens in a few brands over the years to get a comfortable fit

Legends seem great pads but they weigh 900+ grams, so not light by today's standards.

Ok so why i was considering bas after buying ss test opener was rhe red and black line on side of the pads that looked cheap. My older test opener pair did not have them.
So i decided to remove the red line myself and gave acetone a go.
You can still see small faded coloring but cant see from slight distance so it did the job for me.
The trick here is that you dont rub actone but tap it to transfer the color from the pads to the paper towel.
Here are some pics.

UPDATE: Got delivery from OLS - Order spot on and not messed up - even modified my order via whatsapp. So no complaints here.
1 pair of unbranded pads £25
1 pair of SS DHoni 7 in BAS Players style £28
Shipping £23
Total: £76

Pads:
Very good value for money and rather nice but not in the same quality in comparison to the SS Test Openers and my BAS Players Edition. Although if OLS do not mess up your order they are exceptional value for money, and I do like them. I haven't gotten around to weighing them yet. Will try and do later and update this post. I think I've gone through the new pads drama and have decoded I am using my BAS pads. Unsure what I am doing with these unbranded pads just yet but may end up in the sales section.

Gloves:
Really liking these gloves. Lighter than the BAS gloves but I think the BAS gloves have better protection. Not going to affect me playing Sunday league cricket. Indian size so small but prefer them as I have small hands and is a good fit for me. Def keeping these alongside the BAS gloves I already have. Would def buy these again, however only worth it if you are buying other stuff from OLS, as postage would negate any cost value benefits. Id just buy the BAS gloves from a UK retailer to be practical as you can get them circa £40 in the UK.

Another bump for legends here!!

I used some last night in nets. As you all know, I’ve been through my fair share of pads so I know what feels good on the legs...

I have to say, they were by a country mile the most comfortable pads I have ever worn! You can see why they are so popular.

Bravo Gray Nics.... Bravo!

Yet another vote for GN Legends: picked some up off here a couple of years ago, and they're mega. Great quality materials yet still lightweight - I did get a bruise through the pad, but that'd happen with any pad I'm sure. Oh, and we all know if you look good you play good... and they ooze class. The only downside is the cost...

This is gonna be a new one here but there is a company in Jalandhar called KayGee sports. I like their both the top two offerings with two straps. Yes they are a cheaper knockoffs of Morrants (as every other two strap pad is). I also like BDM’s titanium pad which is another 2 strap light weight pad. Virender Sehwag used to use both these pads in the early oats of his ODI career before he moved to Morrants finally. If you have money and you don’t mind adding a little more foam to the pads yourself, Morrants are the best.
