Reports are the Lara could return to cricket this year with Surrey playing t20 games initially, its also reported that Lara is already Netting with Surrey and has held initial contract talks with Surrey. Id love to see Lara return and if he is half the player he was then he would improve the t20 in England.
-
Yeah I've heard he was netting at the Oval today.
-
Worrying that Surrey would relying on two 40 year olds to save their bacon. Two brilliant 40 year olds might I add.
-
Form is temporary, class is perminant ;)
Age is a number to me :)
-
O the great man is on the verge of a return !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL HAIL BRIAN CHARLES LARA!!!!
-
I think this is very sad. For both BCL and Surrey.

I totally agree - he is only doing it so he can get a massive payday in the IPL next year. I am insensed that Surrey are doing this. >:(
-
It'll be great for the fans. Even for the development of Cricket, as younger Surrey batsmen will look up to him, and try to emulate him
-
no - his attutude is not at all what the young Surrey players need. It is hard enough for RHB to be captaining Ramps, Afzaal and Nel. It will be almost impossible with Symonds. AND BCL for all his former greatness as a player - is now a player in the other sence.
I think this is a shocking plan, whipped up by the administrators who just care about seing the Oval full rather than good cricket from a Surrey team
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:( (just in case anyone isn't sure about my view on this!)
-
Lots of negatives to this but he is an amazing talent.... probably one of the most exciting players of the modern era and someone who's always given me my moneys worth when I've been to watch him play.
-
cant blame lara, afterall surrey already have plenty of walking sticks, zimmerframes, saline drips and false teeth laying around for ramps!

Greedy (No Swearing Please) would probably nudge and nurdle his way to 89* off 150 balls

Not possible Leo, only 120 balls can be faced
-
i dont think he should come back, just think if he comes back and has an incredibly poor return, people will start doubting him, and he might even start to get rememebered by this return and not his long and very successful spell in international cricket. i know it seems harsh, but its the way the press works these days
-
Yes, hes doing it for the money I reckon, not to have a future in T20...
-
If someone is willing to pay the money can't blame him will be good to see which sponser he would use
-
Good point roco, H4L, Vantage, Mongoose, Bull Dog, Black Cat, SAF etc etc get in there!
Also Ayrtek, you could do the helmets!
-
Mongoose could be fun with lara's legendry bat speed x the increase that a mongoose gives you ummm
-
If Goose sign Lara, i'll be happy to see him return!
-
We all know he would never use the MMi though!
-
Just like you all 'knew' Hayden never would...
-
Never know but the cor3 has it's benifits too
-
Just like you all 'knew' Hayden never would...
Does that mean you have contacted him or intend to contact him?
-
i havent watched that much ipl so havent seen much of the goose, Tom how much does hayden use the mmi compared to the cor3? thanks :)
-
he usually uses the cor3 to start his innings and then the mmi to push the pace after hes faced 20 or so balls
-
ok thanks stubbzy :)
-
After playing around with a CoR3 I feel that bat speed is also increased with the bat, just not as much as the MMi3.
-
Anyone will use anything if the money is right, and I'm also pretty sure Lara ain't short of money and has turned down several offers from the Ipl and also offers from Australia. He may be 40 but he is a legend of the games and one of The worlds best ever batsmen, take a look in the Ipl and see what star names both past and present do for the game.
If Lara has half his previous ability that will be better than most on the county scene, i hope he does return and i will go to one of the games to watch the greatest batsmen of all time.

Who said he turnt down offers from the IPL? He was trying for a player/coach role at Kochi next year, but it fell thru. By a few reports he was pretty eager on sign on the dotted line.
-
at the end of the day he is, in my opinion, the best batsman of the modern era, and would love to see him wave the willow just a few more times!

whatching Lara at his peak taking apart the Austrailian attack (when it was at it's peak) around 2001 was very special. The thing is that was a long time ago...
-
Lara is playing in the domestic Zimbabwe T20 alongside Ryan Sidebottom.
Perhaps in hope of getting an IPL gig if all goes well.
-
Reading Herschelle Gibb's views on the IPL it seems that when you are no longer able to play at the highest standard you can always play on for a few years in it. What odd's on Botham having a look at maybe a 2 year deal? Do you think it is the desire to test yourself or the cash that brings the greats out of retirement?
-
If i was a pro id rather go out at the top than simply slide down the talent scale...Alan shearer style! bow out with your head held high rather than knocking around the scene....fair enough money will be a incentive but pride hasa factor
-
I think you are right but then a player such as Lara must be a little green with envy watching Pollard hit a quickfire 30/40 and earn many times what he did.
-
We are not talking about any damm good cricketer but probably one of the greatest of the modern era,In his pomp he would have been incredibly well paid and he has endorsed all put before him.He would be a millionaire many times over so I dont believe that its about the money. Kieron Pollard on the other hand is ALL about the money.I think Laras playing for the love of the game and most of all to see if he still has it? Personally I think its all a big mistake as he left at the top with nothing but respect from the fans.
-
Completely agree with you there Previn; but this isn't the first I've heard of a lara return-there was talk he was going to Surrey last year..
-
I cant see Lara getting an IPL deal giving his ICL appearances. Plus i dont think he'd quite be as headline as he was back in his pomp (despite as many people have all ready said, he is probably in the top 2 batsmen of the modern era)
-
The impression i got from Lara's interview with cricinfo was that his potential return is much to do with the fact that t20 excites him and he never got to play it at the highest level during his career. So its a new challenge and its a chance for him to explore something new and help out younger players in the process.
Even if it has been 3 years since he played cricket professionally or internationally it wouldn't take much for him to get back in to it, after all what's a little bit of rustiness for the best batsman of the modern era and perhaps of all time?
-
In addition to that, IPL would be perfect for him to play a Shane Warne style role for 2-4 years
-
Would love to be watching Lara again.
-
with talk of a return from Brian and Warney not ruling out a comeback they must think times have got easier if they can still cut the mustard after a prolonged period out of the game!
-
I thought BCL was almost half blind???? surely he has to consider his own health!
-
perhaps he should claim Aussie citizenship then....good chance of making their side over those batsmen who are completely blind
-
Would be great to see him play again! Almost as good as seeing Warne demolish England again but sadly I doubt either will happen again!
