Afternoon folks.
Have been discussing a couple of things with the good folk who run this Forum, and suggested an invitation to 5 Forum Members to visit Nottingham on November 3rd.
We are one of the very few larger brands who actually make our own bats and we are extremely proud of our staff who do this and the methods by which we make bats. Over the last couple of years we have invested significantly in what we call the DXM process and we would be pleased to show you how we do what we do.
If you would be kind enough to indicate your interest in attending, the Moderators will help us make the final selection - you will need to make your own way to the factory, we shall provide a buffet lunch. I suggest that the day starts at about 10 / 10:30.
Kind regards
Edward Lowy

Same with me, half term is the week before!
-
Would I be right in thinking you have replaced Peter as MD?
Certainly not!
Gunn & Moore has been owned by Unicorn since 1971. I am MD of Unicorn, Peter Wright is MD of GM.
That is to say, I think I know a bit about cricket, Wrighty actually knows it!
-
is it possible to move it to a weekend date? I would really like to go. Funnily enough, my bat hadnt arrived for uni when I did nets last friday and I used a GM Catalyst 808. It played quite well and the willow looked very nice
-
No problem, I had that mixed up, still plenty of time for me to slip into his shoes before he retires then ;)

I am guessing they wont move it just at your request, I am sure there will be more than enough who can make it on a week day, I shall be working so wont have the chance,
But i expect lots of pictures from those that go

Pictures will be allowed in the showroom only but not in the actual factory.
Would like to take the opportunity to thank GM and Mr Lowy for setting this great opportunity up.
-
very jealous that I cant go, Im on half term the week before dam it!!
Although it would be great to skive a day of work to come and let someone else teach my horrible kids!
-
I will be going down myself so look forward to meeting some of the forum guys off here, I'm coming down from Newcastle so if anyone wants a lift and its not too far out of my way then its not a problem just let me know.

-
Will be going myself as well so should be fun

-
Cricket Supplies Forum
-
thought that might have folded some right plums on there only went on there a few times that was enough
-
Thanks Dave didn't know you held me in such high esteem !
-
When is this being decided?
-
Yeh would be good to know as it's not long away now if people need to get days off work etc I guess
-
Tom its not like you'd have to ask the boss if your allowed the day off or not lol ;)
-
Yeh but that's even worse mate as when I'm off no work is going to be getting done unless I organise it in advance lol
-
Only had about four entries, is noone else interested in coming?
-
i am will pm you my details now :)
-
Lol makes selection easy then ;)
-
sure does! Could be grabbing a lift then ;)
-
i've entered now so theres your 5. sorted ;)
-
I've sent you an email Peps.
-
Ur DES drive as u don't drink I'm afraid nick nack....that's if were selected from the list to attend!
-
the car doesnt like long journeys remember!
-
Lol oh yeh Batton down the hatches.... I'll bring the gaffa tape this time!
-
You sure you will make it there
-
Haha who knows! Or make it back! The car doesnt like accelerating after a while!
-
7 entries recieved keep them coming!
-
Lucky I will be bringing the tank so should be ok
-
Good point best take old faithful and crank up the dirty diesel golf power....can get up and back on half a tank :)
-
not sure if these have been posted... some videos of swanny going round the gm at nottingham! makes me want to go even more now lol
http://www.cricketsupplies.com/brand-gm-shop.asp
-
I would but it's over 18's only :(
-
I'll be your legal guardian for the day mate :) god help you!!!
-
Lol is that a good idea? ;)
-
That sounds like destructive combo - tom, legal and guardian!
-
Sounds fine as long as he is prepared to look after and be responsible for all of us
-
Just managed to get the day off work as another one of my sales team had already booked the week off but managed to change a few things around so should be a good trip. Hows about a net after the tour ?
-
Are you going already Rich? Some other forum deal or something like that?
-
Yer this was done on CSF a few weeks back so i bagged a place via that however before people start asking i wasn't involved in the selection lol.
-
Well I hope that the cash bung I sent Leo gets there in time as would be good to meet you in the flesh, who else was selected from the dark side??
-
You bribing Leo mike or has it not come to that YET
Damn you getting in before me plus I am going
-
I'll try bribing and then violence, if that fails kidnap and impersonation...
That's 2 people to meet in the flesh....
-
im going via CSF :D
-
net sounds good, need to be selected!!
-
I'm on the wrong forum....
-
Really silly, but I aint 18 but our club pro would like to go potentially, could he go if i got chosen?
-
Mike I'm not 100% sure who was selected from CSF apart from myself and four others, I'm hoping to see a few faces and personalities from this forum and perhaps have a net or a drink and a meal or something and talk cricket etc, would be nice to put faces to the names and all that.
-
Leo could be on a nice little earner though lol
-
I'm sure there must be bookable nets at Trent Bridge. There are plenty of places to eat nearby.
-
I'm sure we can nip to the pub for a meal/drink afterwards as doubt will take all day and night
-
4 hour drive down and same back North again so wont be doing any drinking unfortunately, but I'm a little partial to a good meal and I'm up for a net for sure.
-
Won't be having a beer myself as long drive for me but a meal and educated philosophical talk about cricket sounds good but need to find out who is attending off here as less than 3 weeks and people will need to book time off work apart from Tom
-
I'm going from CSF, I have been before but I'd never miss the opportunity to miss a days cricket talk!
-
Recieved loads of entries eventually, sorry for those of you who are missing out but we can only send five people! Was really hard to pick who should go but think I have chosen well (I hope)
Following members are invited to attend...
peplow
mdl_1979
Talisman
Ayrtek
One place is still up for grabs which will be decided in next few days....
-
The violence worked, a big boost for all aspiring bullies out there......
-
Just need to sort out the afters now then ie a meal or a net depending on time constraints
Plus top bullying mike
-
Surely people can have any time constraints I'm even taking a full day out of my busy schedule and it is busy ! hows about a night in Nottingham as its a rather fine night out if my memory is correct, plenty of cheap hotels in and around Nottingham.
-
I would be up for an overnight stay can have a beverage or two then
-
Yer however it may be tricky for me getting an overnight pass from my wife but possible i guess but only if enough are committed and i would need to check my diary for work commitments.
-
See if you can get a room in Trent Bridge maybe - few beers in the TBI (used to know the landlord, but not sure if he's still there) - then on to Hooters
-
I will be ok for the night as have brownie points because the wife is going to the theatre soon so blackmail can and will be used
-
The violence worked, a big boost for all aspiring bullies out there......
Huh I thought you promised a three figure cheque?!
-
I'd have loved to have gone, but it's over18s -dammit!
-
I would have loved to have gone too, but work has got in the way! :(
-
That's life I guess..
-
WooHoo
-
You must be so proud sam
-
DES drive Peplow
-
Awesome!! Better ready the credit card for a bit of a battering! Looking forward to it!
-
Hope I get the last spot :(
-
I have one lesson (tutorial) on Wednesdays. :(
-
LOl It's a very proud moment for me! I have a tear in my eye, was on phone with friend so couldn't type for long!. I would drive but would be frightened we may never get there for 3 reasons. 1 my car will further disintergrate including doors wheels and seats. 2 another break down and 3 a crash!
-
Congratulations to those going! Jealous! Jonny hooters in Nottingham is quality highly recommended!
-
What time do we have to be there? Mike are u picking me and sam up en route ;)
-
10-1030 meet at gm Tom
-
ah looks nice a nice early start from Brizzle then to get up to Notts
-
I'm off via 303 then 34 and Oxford then 40. 43 and 1 all the way.
-
Guess that means im driving us up then nick nack!
-
You can come to me but I think you are nearer to start with anyway.
-
Yeah M5/M6 up there prob 3 hrs i think from here so not too bad
-
M6, don't go too far....
-
Serious treck for some of you guys! Bet its worth it though, it's only 30 mins from me!
-
147 miles apparently!!! Will have to leave early doors :(
-
good times, love an early morning! might be working night shoft before too!
-
Good morning one and all. Back from the USA, are we done and dusted with "The Custom 5"?
Kind regards
Edward
-
Just one more I think
-
Any news on the 5th person yet Leo
-
NG2 4DS
Can anyone confirm this is the correct post code for the GM factory ? if so 186 miles each way for me which is roughly a 7 hour round trip lol.
-
NG2 4DS
Can anyone confirm this is the correct post code for the GM factory ? if so 186 miles each way for me which is roughly a 7 hour round trip lol.
thats dedication ;)
-
147 from brizzle
-
Going to be a very early start indeed !
-
7 hours !! :O its only a 2 and a bit hour round trip on the train for me ! am i the lucky one ??
-
That is the postcode rich and 120 for me but still 2 1/2 hours as not nice roads in wales till you hit civilisation
-
Should be a good trip and hopefully everyone will turn up ? will be a shame if some don't turn up and a waste.
-
Me and sammy will be there nice 6am start from down here!
-
is there a chance anyone can give me a lift from Nottingham station ?? as it is a good half an hour walk !
-
where do u live roco??
-
Got it booked off with work and family plus to be sure works phone will be turned off on Tuesday afternoon lol and it's a 10am meet so may do a 630 or 7 set off depends if I can be bothered to cook brekkie or just get a road trip greasy fry up hmmmmm
Plus who is the 5th from here?
Newtown Wales mate
-
Ah Newtown played them on tour I think when we used to venture to the vallies! Does ur pitch have a bank that runs upto the pavilion ??? Or was I just drunk
-
Yes it does and a rugby pitch behind that but I don't play there any more due to the click mentality your in or your not crap prefer to enjoy my cricket plus beat them 4 out of last 5 times played them RESULT
-
Thought the name rang a bell we played them a while back now but must have been 15 I recon and one of my 1st tours
-
Niceish ground tbh just have to be careful as golf course one side and cemetery the other
-
i'll bring in car breakfast for us tom!
-
Sounds like a good plan mate!
What's the crack afterwards as guessing were going to be wrapped up by 2pm ish?
-
What's your thoughts Tom as dome said net but at least the pub for a natter and a shandy
-
Pete Hosk gets the final place!
GM say: "Folk need to arrive 10 -> 10:15 for a 10:30 start. I suspect we will be
done and dusted around 3 pm"
Once again many thanks to Edward Lowy and GM for giving us this great opportunity, who says big brands dont offer great service!?
-
If Pete is going, you better warn Mr Lowy in advance to double the number of bats in the shop, especially in the top of the range section... Failing that, Mrs Hosk may try to cut up the american express card before he leaves...!!! ;)
-
Due to the distribution network that GM have, we can't buy anything when we are there. Which is a shame, but probably a good thing for the credit card!
-
I'm sure they will miss out on a few sales as i know i was planning on a few purchases but that's not my intention for the visit so i will simply spend it on here.
-
the wife is over the moon that we cant buy from the factory but shouls still be fun and a drink after wards anyone?
-
thought we were going to have a net ? but I'm up for a few diet cokes and a chat and a meal etc if others are up for it, don't really see any point heading straight back in rush hour traffic lol.
-
I'm up for whatever. A nets sounds good !!
-
a net is fine with me or a meal whats the group feeling as only a week away so need to organise something
-
im not fussed no point in rushing back down so grabbing something to eat somewhere afterwards would be a good plan
-
well who wants a net and who just wants to go for meal afterwards as better to be organised or is that just me
-
yeh would need to know as not going to pack a load of kit in the boot otherwise as its been put away for winter now
-
other than the for sale stuff tom ;)
-
dont carry that around mate its only a few people attending who dont have a helmet anyway lol ;) iv already worked my sales pitch on u lot...just need to crack the last few
-
Net plus food, I'll look into both for afters, we have the time if we can get away before midnight!!!!
-
Will leave it in your hands then lord tali
-
Sonds good, netting twice in a week...this must nearly count as exercise!!!
-
Hope you all have an amazing time! Had I not been going to the theater with the GF this day I would definitely have put myself forward!!!
-
I'm sure you don't need the practice Tom lol
-
Tom was striking the ball rather well......
-
Haha the others at the net last week will inform u otherwise!
Was pretty rusty after a few months off
-
I'm up for whatever as i have not netted in a while! but i am training it to Nottingham so i don't want to luge my kit around Nottingham all day :P
P.S Mike i have emailed you !
-
Perky....bring ur own box I'm sure we cam kit u out beyond that :)
-
will bring my box and trusty match bat :D
-
Well I will feel out of place with all you seasoned pro's then
-
Seasoned yes...pros no....I'm still aching from Friday lol
-
i am unseasoned and defiantly no pro !
-
Well I hear fables about the famed abundance of ability of you lot just hope little old me can keep up
-
Perky did you win a place on CSF? Who else got a place on there?
-
Me and rich got in off there as well as perky plus two other lads can't remember there names
-
Is that idiot Huckster going?
-
us three and Lovers99 (and it looks like a mate) off CSF
No Nick refused to pick him :D
-
No nick did not pick him due to him not sending him the details other two have email that contains lovers in it but don't know them myself
-
A net as well? Does that mean bringing kit plus a selection of willow?
-
In your case that means yes pete we can all help carry them
-
i would love to see some of your selection pete :D
probs all better than everything i own !
-
Ok....will just have to try and decide what to bring now!
Maybe Talisman will bring a few quality sticks too.
-
Hopefully not as the wife is trying to ban my wallet from coming as it is
-
he still owes me one...iv been waiting patiently for 6 months for it already haha
-
Make sure you mention it while he is batting and the ball is in your hand scare him into getting you one Tom
-
the only person in danger is myself and my own toes when im bowling mate!
-
bloody hell, i'm going to have to bring some money if bats are going :O!
-
Ed as I'm not going to the show tell can I ask you a few questions?
-
What time and where is this net happening??? I'd love to hit a few
-
it's a good thing i am broke :L
my bat is going to be depressed after it has seen all the beautiful blades everyone else has :(
-
Ed as I'm not going to the show tell can I ask you a few questions?
Of course!
-
So what is the plan for after the tour then ?
-
Not sure mate...Mike was looking into a net i think but deffo pub for some food and a beverage before making a move back home as be good to have a chat with everyone as meeting up with most for the 1st time
-
well i asked Mike earlier and he was booking one in the morning but a nice pint after will do nicely :D
-
would be good to know if a net is going a head or not as my kit needs brought down from the loft and sorted, rather not do this and bring it all down if a net isn't going to happen so would be good to know whats what if possible.
-
with Mike booking one in the morning i would say it is a safe bet we will be having one :P
-
Please keep me informed on the net situation!
-
I'm sure mike will sort something so will be sorting my kit out tommorow
-
any nets sorted Mike ??
-
Booked. One lane from 4pm til 6pm so a decent bat for each member 15/20 minutes and not too much bowling for those resting through the winter....
Food afterwards in the Trent Bridge Inn.
-
2 hours......jesus ill be dead!!! plus out more times than id care to count.....good work mate looking forward to it ill lump the kit into the boot now
-
Well it seems better than having a net with 7/8 people in it for 55 minutes, plenty of room to chat at the back of the net....
-
2 hours ! i will have to chuck a few pies down for an hour as near 2 hours bowling properly will kill me !
but great work Mike !!
with Pete there we will spend an hour going through the duffel bag !
-
Sounds brilliant, but knackering. Really looking forward to tomorrow, and meeting everyone!
-
Well it seems better than having a net with 7/8 people in it for 55 minutes, plenty of room to chat at the back of the net....
be careful whilst chatting at the back of the net, its not always safe depending who's batting i nearly took a couple at dummer
-
Matt's phone took one......
-
as long as it wasnt an iphone
-
i did shout "fore" lol how is the phone matty? all mended yet? or is it still a sore subject
-
as long as it wasnt an iphone
Mike,
It was indeed an iphone, Smashed to pieces, I blame the part time bowlers and the batsmen hitting it too straight,
The phone has been picked up by the insurance people, However i feel i will be getting an iphone 4 instead,
-
it could have been worse for Matt i guess, Mike could have forgotten his bat as well lol
-
it could have been worse for Matt i guess, Mike could have forgotten his bat as well lol
Now your just adding salt to my already opened wounds, But i have now got the bat in my possesion, Mike posted it down to me,
-

see Matt its all worked out for the best i think you owe a beer to the culprit, Iphone 4's rule
-
my iphone has the battery life of about 4 hrs :( im not cool enough to have a 4 yet lol
-
see Matt its all worked out for the best i think you owe a beer to the culprit, Iphone 4's rule
It was either Mike or Tom that did the damage, However i feel it could of been off my bowling, So i am partial to blame, I should never pitch the ball up.
-
I think I may have been the culprit having hit Matt twice on the pads while he was getting ready, I did mow the ball but it came back off the wall of doom in our lane.....
-
leathal wall of death....need to move the net over a yard id say lol
-
That wall was a lethal thing considering when i batted the bowlers persisted with a leg stump lie, Luckily for me they didnt test me out with a short ball to pull into the wall
-
i wanna go for a net :(
-
leathal wall of death....need to move the net over a yard id say lol
so Brucey can back away to leg further ;) ?
-
good point well made....think he was pushing off the wall for extra power come the end!
-
so Brucey can back away to leg further ;) ?
Brucey could back away in a cupboard, Let alone a net, He did look comfortable against Mike, Played him with ease, Looked a bit shaky against the spin duo of Tom and myself,
Simmy a net is a good laugh, The amount of bats being passed around was special,
-
you dont need a net to pass around special bats, a pub will suffice lol
-
bit of a treck just for a net lol
-
bit of a treck just for a net lol
You get to touch Pete's and Mike's wood, Surely worth it
-
You get to touch Pete's and Mike's wood, Surely worth it
I agree the 2 hour drive was well worth it and the clip round the ear from my gf for spending more money and being 3 hours late haha
-
Nice should be fun to see the legendary forum cricketing ability
-
- Colesy ;)
-
- Colesy ;)
Who is that lol
If it's two hours will be bringing the sidearm pro for a whirl
-
Brucey could back away in a cupboard, Let alone a net, He did look comfortable against Mike, Played him with ease, Looked a bit shaky against the spin duo of Tom and myself,
Ahem - I think it is a trifle unfair to mock the afflicted - besides, backing away gives me more room to whack the sh*t out of it - I got most of them through the offside!!!
By the way Matt, I haven't told you yet, but you have been appointed my new batting coach - rather like Steve Waugh and Glen McGrath.
You are in for a long winter, but I will be a willing pupil. We can learn to nurdle together!
-

Haha, No Problems Bruce, You got my number, Even though i have no phone at the moment, But i am more than willing to make you move to the offside as your trigger movement ;)
-
Trigger movements are bad....... ask BUZZ
-
Mikey poos - any trigger movement that keeps me in the same net as the bowler is a good thing.
-
and Buzz isn't always right!! (just most of the time)
-
The coach is always right ;)
-
Pixie - delete some of your messages - I am attempting to make contact!
-
Done Mr Cat
-
All this technical talk makes me feel a bit nervous about the net now all you high quality players talking about technique and footwork
-
Whoo yeah baby - we analysize to the last detail. Batsmen are videod, bowlers actions are scrutinized and Pete spends the whole night rummaging around in his bag!
-
fear not el roco im old school and of the see ball...hit ball school! go big or go home :D
-
Mikey poos - any trigger movement that keeps me in the same net as the bowler is a good thing.
you could place a chair behind you whilst batting, and no its not so you can have a rest lol
Brucey you could always text pixie lol ;)
-
fear not el roco im old school and of the see ball...hit ball school! go big or go home :D
Well I'm not too bad a player just not on your lots level I think from these discussions
-
Oh you're in for a shock roco. Put it this way, I sent Tom home several times.
Different class I'm afraid!
-
you could place a chair behind you whilst batting, and no its not so you can have a rest lol
Brucey you could always text pixie lol ;)
Mike any need for such a low blow ;), I feel that once my phone is back i will take better care of it at a net session
-
Thanks for the pm canners but clear your inbox lol
-
Brucie knows im only playing, im just jealous cos i cant use a bat as big as his
-
Thanks for the pm canners but clear your inbox lol
done, i need a bigger mail box only had 30 or so msgs in there as well
-
Apparently if your a premium member you get unlimited ;), I am not sure how much it is though
-
I had roughly 70 odd messages in there the other day and then i cleared a load and only had 37 and now people cant message me? bit odd really
-
Premium do get unlimited worth it just for that tbh as I had a load lol
-
Premium do get unlimited worth it just for that tbh as I had a load lol
.
What is the cost to us mere mortals for premium membership?
-
Think it was £10 or £15 along those lines and the freebies are cool aswell

-
Are those the combo type ones or am I barinkg up the wrong tree
-
Fear not ur bat is in there mate :D
-
And the jacket freshly washed and pressed I hope
-
Cheeky yeh its on the side dont worry!
-
Don't come that I'm the customer and expect certain standards lol better not say too much you will have a ball in your hand tommorow
-
Your in no danger if iv got a ball mate it the ones in the next net that need to be worried about strays!
-
You can give the sidearm a whirl it's alot of fun
-
your asking for trouble with one of them mate lol
-
anyone with a cheap blank English willow bat should also bring it along however i do have certain standards, who will see Brucie nxt as i have something for him and thought id save postage.
-
Well I'm bringing it so ha ha ha have it as the masses say
-

Bit odd that they are prepared to invite competitors into their factory to see their secrets, but, not let them take photos. Unless they are making you sign an NDA
-
Competitors?
-
Isnt Tom from Ayrtek going?
-
Tom is going yes
-
Plus Peplow from Lekka, Mike from Talisman etc
-
Does anyone from GM post on this forum?
-
Edward Lowy is the MD of GM - Unicorn Products are the owner of GM
-
Peplow isnt Lekka anymore ;)
-
he was yesterday wasn't he? was he headhunted by gm?!
-
Peplow isnt Lekka anymore ;)
i guess hes sold all his bats now then ? is he re-branding as monster energy?
-
seems a bit mad doesn't it?
However, who better to appraise and discuss GM? I don't imagine any of the visitors are in a position personally to act on the technologies they will see and I would be amazed if GM hadn't vetted them first.
-
I think he has stopped working for Lekka and might be looking to start a brand of his own,
I am not sure what his link with Monster Energy is, but i think he will just sell the stickers,
-
Brillant day, GM put on one hell of a show. Thanks to Edward, Richard, Streaky and the guys for an education in English made cricket bats. I'm already a huge GM fan and after today I'm even more impressed by a great English company that has mixed tradition and modern thinking into their business. Photos were taken by petehosk and we didn't get turned down for anything. Access all areas and all questions answered, simply brilliant.
-
Peplow isnt Lekka anymore ;)
Cor Lekka are going through sales boys like they're going out of fashion!!

you lucky lucky boys, would love to see pics and a full detailed report...
did you have a net?
-
Sounds excellent and look forward to more detail! Think it is excellent that such a large brand as G&M have taken the time and effort to offer forum members an insight into their business. Hats off to G&M!!
-
What are the odd's Pete has purchased a bat from the showroom destined for a pro ;)
-
haha i doubt any of the bats destined for a pro would be in the showroom ;)
-
im sure he's spent some dough tho lol
-
Where do I start??? Bacon baps were tasty, tea was perfectly made, intro was to the point, sales video was impressive (summer of 69 etc!). Factory was mind blowing (in a bat making sense anyway), anybody who says they aren't handmade will need their eyes testing, the cutting machine aside everything else was done by hand. The machine is so impressive, such detail in getting every bat through. The lad who did the handles was the most enthusiastic person I've ever met-loved his job and took such good care in it! Heard that Trott and Watson are bat freaks, Watson preferred a 808 to an LE cos of the pick up! Watson also has all his gloves an pads tweaked in different ways and spent about 4 hours there last summer making sure they knew what he wants. The set up is fantastic, such a huge area all just for clefts and the procedures to make them. The buffet was spot on,particularly the chicken kebabs, but my banana was abit hard.... Really enjoyed the Q&A section at the end, they asked us questions and were listening to what was said intently. Then tried on the new gloves and swung a few bats, I'm definately getting an Icon LE or Icon + and the LE gloves. GM is all class in every aspect of it's business.
-
I offered to buy a bat in the factory but my offer was declined! Got a free GM polo shirt and the new catalogue too. No net for me had to shoot.
-
...but my banana was abit hard....
Now that is an in-depth review ;)
-
glad you had a great day, what shape does Trott use? his bats look pretty big ?
-
90% of the bats are all made using one of the four model programmes that we all can buy. The other 10% are for players who like something a little different about their bats. Trott's was quite flat, not a lot of concaving but loads of wood in the blade, semi-oval handle that was quite thin too. Watson has a weird quirk with his handles as well.
-
....what kind of weird quirk?
-
I love the look of Trott's blades plenty of meat towards the toe
-
Sounds like a cracking day out.
Did Mike ask his standard questions about laminated bats or anything about buterfly stains?!!
-
Cor Lekka are going through sales boys like they're going out of fashion!!
I am honouring what I said I'd do and sell off the lekka stock I have! As its decent and don't wanna leave on a bad note!
-
did you have a good day Sam?
-
Majorly jealous of you lot today!! Hope you had a good time today and enjoyed it, hopefully they do something similar again in the future as would love to go...
I too expect a fully report at some point of the day ;)
-
What happened with Lekka Sam?
-
Cracking day!
I've not left lekka. All stock will still will be sold by me.
-
sam, was petehosk there?
-
Yeah he was.
-
Did anyone go mapperly sports ?
-
i need to get hold of him before saturday, he has my hard earned money!
-
pictures... *drool*

What a long day just got in (after setting off at 6) lovers has covered most of it but pete has plenty of photo plus a couple of the budding bat makers rich and mark as he was allowed to take a few photos in the factory plus trotts bat was huge and light ,cnc was impressive plus the programming side was really good aswell as chatted to dr streaky about it ,Luna looks and feels very nice could be a future purchase plus all questions answered truthfully and constrictive criticism taken on board and seemed to be appreciated which is good plus had the net afterwards which was fun then a meal and chat then the long drive home with a slight detour
-
Great day out and very kind of the GM boys to open their doors to us "geeks" seeing the process behind their bat making was a very interesting insight into the way the big boys manufacture the sheer volume of bats but maintain a high level of quality control throughout the process to avoid "battery farming" bats!
I think i speak of behalf of everyone to say that it was a very entertaining day and everyone left alot more knowledgeable not only about GM but about the bat manufacturing process as a whole. Some of the boys got the chance to see just what skills were involved with the different processes and managed to devalue a few bats in doing so ;) lol
Would like to thank everyone at GM for having invited us all to slow the production of their day down :D and putting up with our quizzical questions throughout the duration of the tour.....keep up the good work!
-
Even got to see toms famous left arm slow skills
-
were the people from CSF there as well?
-
Yes
-
My turn!
On what was a very very early morning me and tom trotted down to gm in the trusty vw, which like to wipe the windscreen so much it wouldnt stop! Having getting lost on the wrong side of the railway and ending up at some kind of school that looked like it had been burgled many times and had barbed wire and graffiti everywhere we quickly got the iphone out and made a u turn to the correct place!
Will firstly say it was a pleasure to meet everyone, all the guys from here and csf were great and made the day even better.
Thanks to ed and his lads for the very educational and fun day. Being one of the two nippers of our team i learnt so much about not only the making of bats by companies but the whole inside workings of gm, which was very decent and succeeded what i thought it was going to be before going in. Seeing there whole range was great even if their video was a long'un with little interest paid after the bats, pads and gloves sections ;), but some top tunes to accompany the video eased the longevity! The factory was great and all workers seemed more than happy for a few of our lads to try their hands at a couple of activities! As well as tom ruining the cnc by waving a bat in front of the stop line, I'm sure the gm guys will notice a dip in quality in todays bats!!
Buffet lunch was lovely and filled the massive hole i had after wine gums for breakfast.
Q+A , learning about cnc machine designing and touching, trying on the whole new range was the last part of the day. This was extremely enjoyable and a great insight into the whole process behind designing bats. The gm lads took all that we had to throw at them and seemed to take it on board, however i think there may have been a lot more thrown at them if this had been done pre-tour. Thats how great it was to see it all in action.
Finally the range. Have to say i like the new stickers except the back one, but its not as bad as first seen. The embossed logo's is brilliant and would cast a shadow on the fakes people were worried about! The luna grew on me throughout the day, the pick up on them seems great and the scoops aren't as severe as it first looked to us.
Again thanks to all the lads at GM for a cracking day out, thoroughly enjoyed by us all and a very worthwhile experience for any age and any level of experience! Even if they did join in with the slight bullying of me being the smallest there, i am proud of my medium polo! and probably needed a small just to make it all worse ;)!
Then it was nets, a daunting two hour net. Being drafted in as the young gun bowling machine i probably did the least, but more than enough talent to see out the 2 hours. Loved the banter and general chat with all the guys, and btw love the sidearm we used!
Then onto the pub for friendly discussions about everything and anything whilst watching tv! A great day and hope to meet the guys again sometime as enjoyed their company.
Cheers all!
Peps
-
Enough talent what net were you at lol still got a few decent sticks off mike
-
lol i didnt want to be rude :D! Some lovely sticks on show, all about 2lb's to heavy for my guns ;)
-
You were lifting the scat ok but some of us were bowling slow as you did not have the right pads on
-
yeah or any thigh guards, or a lid and a box halfway down my leg! why did i ever bat with basically nothing on! Bad times, but in all honesty it didnt feel too bad, wish i had my stuff and would have liked to face all the quicker stuff!
-
Time for my two pennies worth. Having arrived at GM at 10am everyone was a little bleary-eyed, an early start for everyone, particularyl those who were coming from far afield. The GM directors and marketeers were out in force to meet us, with probably just as many GM staff there as forum-ites. There was an entertaining history of the cricket bat, with the chance to have a look at some interesting pieces, including an aluminium bat from the 70s. The video about the range was informative, and very loud! The tour of the factory was really good - we were shown how a bat goes from raw cleft to finished product. The CNC machine is very impressive, but there is still a massive amount of craftsmanship going in to all the bats. All the staff there seem to have been there forever, were very enthusiastic, and very proficient at what they do. I got to have a crack at binding a handle, which is pretty tricky, but I don't think I made too much of a mess of it. Lunch was excellent - and they very kindly provided a plate of kosher food for me. After lunch we were given a runthough of the range, and enjoyed a lively Q&A session. I hope they were able to take something from our opinions on things!
The range looks good - I still have to admit to being more of a fan of last year's livery than the new stuff, but the quality looks good.
It was brave of GM to open their factory doors to a whole room full of bat geeks, but has to a positive thing. I think we all have a greater appreciation of their operation now, and the fact that they are kicking out 40,000+ bats from the factory per year, and still seem to care deeply about the quality, and their perception, reflects very well on them.
The net afterwards was a good giggle - 2 hours is a bit long in the off season though!!
Great craic to meet the guys and would love to do it again at some point!
Finally, many thanks to Ed, Richard, and all at GM for their hospitality.
Cheers,
Mark
-
would love to know what ed and his guys made of the day? and how they feel it went? ;)
-
My day started with a 6:30 wake up for an 8:30 train which got delayed but then a train appeared 2 minutes later :S
Then after a nice train ride a cab driver told me it would be easy to walk then i got lost and then took a taxi the the factory where i was greeted with a bacon butty which was great!
Then we had the introductions then the history of bats and a great selection of antiques of which one non willow one Mike and Pete looked to try and take out the back door and run!
The tour of the factory was Amazing starting with the willow outside in the cold :P to the Kiln which was amazing to see how much care they take with the drying process. The grading room was something of dreams with the pro clefts hidden away ! The piles upon piles of willow was breath taking !
The CNC machine was great to see it working and shaping a bat so quickly even thought there we a few people who turned it off (Pete)
Everyone one of the bat makers seamed to love every minute of there job and if anyone buys a GM with a strange handle then blame Watsontotty :L
The discussion after very interesting and trying on all the kit was very fun especially finding the original prototypes of the Luna in the bat covers :)
The net after was rather fun but i feel like i can never bowl again! not the best of batting from me i must say ! Mikes TT was just something else ! i wish i had such a bat !
Then to the Talisman boot sale! around 10 beautiful blades to chose from i got my pick of 4 part mades one of which was something else !! but i have one which i will get pics up later ! Roco also got a bat of which im sure his wife will know nothing about for a while !
Then for a nice 3 hours pub trip! a great time there £1 a pint for coke and £1.50 a pint of beer and then £1.99 fish and chips ! a few discussions with Mike was great to learn more about what he does which i now know is more then people think !
Then for a trip home with Roco, had a good long chat with him about bats and about him not wanting to have his car stolen and for him not to get mugged !
Over all it was an amazing day out for everyone involved!!
-
would love to know what ed and his guys made of the day? and how they feel it went? ;)
Well good morning all, sorry to take a little while to respond. Yesterday we had a briefing on GM 2012 and last night Richard & I had to attend an industry function in London.
What did we make of the day? An outstanding audience is what we think, gentlemen thank you very much indeed for taking the time and making the effort to come to Nottingham, and for your interest in what we showed you.
We greatly enjoy what we do and it is a pleasure to talk to such knowledgeable folk about why we do what we do and how we do it. Very interesting for us to hear your thoughts on bats, bat purchases and all things cricket. We listened carefully.
Gunn & Moore are bat manufacturers. We start with a tree and end up with a bat in our own factory in Nottingham staffed by our own superb craftsmen. How many other "brands" can say that? We are unique in bat manufacturing in being probably the last volume manufacturer of bats in the UK. We believe that our manufacturing processes are the best in the World but we shall continue to refine and improve them.
Thank you all for taking the time to post about your day with us. You clearly all listened carefully to us, we're impressed with your attention to detail! Glad the net went well and that you managed to get together and meet each other and have an enjoyable day to boot.
It was a pleasure to meet you gents.
Kind regards
Edward

Topic is a couple of months old, so I won't bore everyone with details - but was a great day and many thanks to the guys at GM for keeping us fed and entertained for the day! And the fact that it was done in such a professional waym, and with 10 or so of their top guys looking after 10 of us proves that they take their reputation very seriously.
Anyway, shortly after the visit I damaged my iphone and it took a while to get it repaired - which meant that I couldn't get the photos off the phone until recently. But better late than never I guess!
Photos to follow chaps.........
-
Pete how did it feel to bully a little'un for a day? ;)
-
I would never bully anyone - us biggter chaps like to mother you little fellas Sam! :D

I think both Mike (Talisman) and myself would have had that Aluminium bat away if either of us would have been wearing a baggy jumper! A real piece of cricketing history and a very rare addition to anyones collection!!

And last photos will be in the workshop!

Cheers CD - unfortunately I only had the camera on my old iphone 3, which is bearly ok quality!
Wish I had of had the iphone4 camera as it takes better pics!!
Anyway, more to follow.....
To be honest, it is not that bad either. For guys like me who are sitting across the Atlantic and have no way to go to the factory is a very very good opportunity and fun to see the pictures because these pictures can never be found on internet no matter how much research one do.
So something better than nothing but you have done a impressive job and I applaud your efforts.
Its shame you didn't take your sweater with you otherwise we could see different angle pictures :P
The bat above Aluminium bat looks like a sword lol

Which fella is doing the handle binding?!
It's me - was very nerve-wracking to do!
-
It was you - and the guy who was showing you was up close and personal fella!
In fact, a couple of those photos do look a little suggestive when you are pulling his handle! :(

Didn't notice before, but ROTFL now :D
