Matt said he would be finishing it today so I'd expect to see it in the next few days :D
Specs requested
Hattori 5*
2'8
Heartwood on outside edge if possible (I'm not a believer that it makes a big difference, just all the bats I seem to buy these days have it, purely by chance. It is becoming something of a trend)
Thats about it, no special requests, no 'make the middle 3mm higher, or make the edges wide enough to park on. Just want to see what the fuss is about, as I've heard nothing but good things.
Pics/review to come as appropriate.

Hattori Hanzo: What brings you to Okinawa?
The Bride: I'm here to see a man.
Hattori Hanzo: Oh yeah? You have a friend living in Okinawa?
The Bride: Not quite.
Hattori Hanzo: Not a friend?
The Bride: I've never met him.
Hattori Hanzo: Never? Who is he, may I ask?
The Bride: Hattori Hanzo.
Hattori Hanzo: [Serious, switches to Japanese] What do you want with Hattori Hanzo?
The Bride: [Japanese] I need Japanese steel.
Hattori Hanzo: [Japanese] Why do you need Japanese steel?
The Bride: [Japanese] I have vermin to kill.
Hattori Hanzo: [English] You must have big rats if you need Hattori Hanzo's steel.
The Bride: [English] ... Huge.

How big is the rat you wish to kill Jon?

Im hoping to get one of these before the start of the season. . . just waiting to see what the profile is like??
-
TOP TOP film
-
I must admit I was sold on this purely by the visuals. I think it looks absolutely cracking. Don't even like the films that much, but it somehow works. It's...cool.
Plus I'm assured it will cut through any other make of bat without damage to itself.*
*May not be true.

Ok have a look at the 666 profile, Hattori has thicker toe, generally more wood lower down, slightly thinner less tapered edges. What I'd describe as a 'stocky' profile. I do have a comparison shot but I won't post before I've checked with Matt that it is ok to do so.
-
Matt actually looks just like Hattori in the film and as he speaks Japanese was persuaded to make this model. Trouble is he drinks too much Sake

Matt's trouble is he uses a (No Swearing Please) Blackberry which almost succeeded in sabotaging out deal :D

Is it concaved then? I have a 666 which is heavily concaved so i guess its a hybrid of that and an excel?

You know I have no idea, can't tell from the pics I've seen. I'd guess as it has smaller edges and a not so thick profile that concaving is minor if at all.

Hey J-Pin, I've picked up a Hattorri and had a good wave about with it. Looks a very nice shape, and they are very, very well finished. Stickers look excellent too.
You will look the cat's whiskers with one of these Pin-san!

Thats what I like to hear :)

I have just got a 666 5 star off mike for a mate if he wants it not much concaving at all with 14 grains at 2lb10

It has potential :D
One or two little uglys in the wood, but that is as expected having talked to Matt. The 5* willow is G1 with visual imperfections. But I think the focus is performance, so it should be a good one. It feels very soft on the mallet, so I'm going to take my time knocking it in. Not as responsive as others immediately, but I expect it to come good with a bit of patience.
I will try and get pics done tonight, but it was a hellish (no pun intended) day at work with the weather as it was, and I'm a bit pooped.
-
Sounds good- it'll get better with Age then..hellish :D (the way you insisted no pun was intended was funny in itself lol :p)

I've dearly wanted to try this brand out. It might be a net bat or otherwise I might just use it for school or something. I've managed to get one fir a great price, let's leave it at that...

turning into quite a bat collector ;) oh so your not getting a 5* on offer at £150?
-
No photos tonight and I haven't got the patience/energy to do a photoshoot that will give the bat justice. Tomorrow, promise.
Suffice to say I fail to see how this isn't the best value for money offer around at the moment.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nice picture gareth, who Is that?
-
Not sure too be fair Matt. I'll find out for you.
-
As one of your boys surely you have a name, or do you have a lot of boys Gareth?
-
He isn't one of my boys. A mate of one of my boys. Hence why I mentioned I'll find out!
-
Would he like to be one of your boys?
-
Mike will you be one of gareths boys?
-
If asked nicely, depends mostly on the uniform provided....
-
Sorry for the delay, I've not had time to do any proper pics, however here are a few poorly colour adjusted noisy slightly soft shots to keep you going. Proper pics to come this weekend when I have daylight.

So far I'm impressed. A coat of oil has really brought the grains out. Interestingly Matt said he had to finish the bat at 2lb 5 as the grip and stickers added 3oz. So, you're looking at a 2lb 5 bat, not a bad size considering. It is also starting to rebound more now I've subjected it to the mallet for a while.
-
Looks good Jon, interesting shape

It is, I think it will be useful on the low pitches at the start of the season. You really have to go within about 3 inches of the toe before the unpleasant vibration begins with the mallet.
-
really badly cut toe in that second picture? was he drunk! ;P

Yeah i guess that is down to how thick the edges are down near the toe . . .and its 2.5lbs! How is the pick up?
-

Or too much tapping on concrete!
Nah just the way it has sunk into the cushion. It annoyed me when I took the pic.

I have a good bat to compare the pickup to, my Salix fera. Both bats are 2'8 with a ribbed grip, but the Salix has a higher middle/much less wood lower down. It's fair the say the Salix feels like a wand on pickup, most amazing pickup I've ever felt. The Hattori obviously doesn't feel quite as light, thats physics for you though. That said, it doesn't feel heavy by any means. Impressive considering all the weight down the far end.
-
lovely bat!!
-
Is it just me or do the back stickers look quite Kookaburra-esque?
-
Yer I thought that too but struggling to place which model.......
-
i still feel the hattori sticker on the back is a tad on the small side , that said looks a nice bat :)
-
i really like the look of that, looks a great shape for the slow english pitches we play on
