Just seen on sky sports news that Gautum Gambir has gone for £1.54 million! Crazy money
-
Mumbai indians got David Jacobs for 100k . . . Bargain! Matt Prior unsold!
-
Lara, Ganguly, Gayle all unsold too - final session today starts in 5/10 minutes.
Then all continues tomorrow!
-
Hes Better than most of the Indian dross being signed for over $700,000 like Jadeja and Rayudu. Shame, Gayle unsold too!
-
Indian's are worth more as you can only have 4 overseas in your side.
Jimmy Anderson is unsold too...
-
Seems the indians are going for big money this time round! Does any one know if those that are unsold go into 2moros auction?

Only if they lower their reserve price
-
i expect they will go in to some sort of bargain bin for later on!
-
Symonds and Harbhajan at Mumbai, should be fun....
-
Anderson should have started his price at 200k really - then I reckon he would have sold!
He's a better bowler than a lot who have sold - but they seem to go for around 300k, so 400k starting price would be too high for most!! Start your price low and will get more initial interest - whereas if you start it high then people are put off! Just like ebay really!! ;)
-
Just like ebay really!! ;)
If anyone bought him they would probably open up a Paypal Dispute as he's carrying an injury at the mo!
-
As long as they pay via paypal and not as a gift, they should be fine! ;)

Watching the Indian news channels and the reserve price was a put off all the owners, coupled with he doesn't get into England's T 20 side
-
Murali goes for 1.1 million, Swann unsold. What is going on?
-
Swann unsold and he can bat too? And chucker sold for 1.1M? Crumbs!!
-
is it on Sky anywhere?
-
R Ashwin goes for $850 k to Chennai, he was the one player CSK would've paid anything for!
With regards to Gambhir, he went for $2m as he's the next Indian captain.
-
Availability a bit problem for the English apparently. Lots of average Indian players getting rich quick!

Key part of IPL is the word Indian. Doesn't matter if the Indian players aren't top draw, without them, theres no IPL.
-
http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2011/content/current/story/495897.html
Steve smith is sold!!! And they dont buy Swann???
-
Dirk Nannes sold for $650 000 another bargain there as he was the stick out bowler for me last season!
-
Shakib Al Hasan is also a bargain at 425k
-

I agree - The team with the best Indians should win!
-
Most teams want an Indian spinner, so their overseas players can be batsmen or fast bowlers.
-
Steve smith is sold!!! And they dont buy Swann???
I guess they think that Smith can bat, which they better hope as his bowling is a crock!
Unreal to think how they can pass the best spinner in the World for the last 2 years though!
Still - I guess as everyone says, they are after Indian players first and foremost!
-
Eoin Morgan goes to KKR for $350k.
-
12 of the top of 13 (price) are Indian . . . Most expensive non-indian . . . . Shane Warne!
-
Is Bopara up again this year?
-

Shane Warne wasn't in the auction. The Royals retained him
-
Is Bopara up again this year?
His name wasn't on the list of players, surprising if he doesn't play, as he's a good draw card with his Indian roots
-
I thought all players were in the auction and retaining them is just that, that they retained them again. On the IPL website Warne is listed 8th on $1.8 million
-
And he seemed to bat well last year (when they played him!) and he can bowl a little too!
-
He may be in tomorrow's auction?
-

Franchises had the option to retain up to 4 players i believe (before the auction)
-
i think they should make a bollywood film about the ipl with Shane Warne staring
called
MONEY FOR NOTHING (death of a gentleman's game)

The dancing scene on the cricket field would be a joy! :D

When is Bell up, or has he been unsold as well?

I bet some of the younger guys on this list are watching the auction with their fingers & toes crossed!
-
I like the look of deccan's squad. Chennai seem intent on having the same team as last year! Not surprising as the won IPL & CLeague
-
i would like steven croft have a crack he has come on leaps and bounds
-
how has Swann gone unsold! yet Collingwood got bought!
-
how has Swann gone unsold! yet Collingwood got bought!
Coz Swann plays test cricket and would miss some of the IPL. Collingwood to Rajasthan - may have retired just in time
-
KKR look like a cracking team on paper
Gambhir
Pathan
Kallis
Haddin
Al Hasan
Lee
-
Coz Swann plays test cricket and would miss some of the IPL. Collingwood to Rajasthan - may have retired just in time
Having said that, so do Broad & KP

Not all the English players made the auction
-
i actually cannot wait for the IPL, 2nd best tournament in the world!
-
i actually cannot wait for the IPL, 2nd best tournament in the world!
It'll be a long drag this time with the extra two teams! Isn't it about 96 games??
-
Not all the English players made the auction
Really? That was the list supplied to us by IMG World 3 days ago.
Do you have the updated one?
-
yeah, they narrowed it down, loads of them were taken out of the auction tom because no one was interested in them.
i quite like Deccan's team
Kevin Pietersen
Cameron White
Kumar Sangakkara
JP Duminy
Shikhar Dhawan
Ishant Sharma
Dale Steyn
Pragyan Ojha
Amit Mishra
-
does anyone know when the IPL is due to start?

Ok - the list we have is 353 players. It was originally 413, cut down to 350 with 4 more added after Kumble dropped out.
Do you have the final one? How many are on that?
-
http://static.espncricinfo.com/db/DOWNLOAD/0000/0077/IPL_2011_Auction_List.pdf
-
Thanks, but that's not the up to date one. Kumble is on it and Adrian Shankar is missing - who I'm 99% sure is up tomorrow.
-
would love to see Rilee Rossouw in the IPL quality young saffer
-

Ah right. It said on Cricinfo it was the ammended final list, and I thought so too as I didn't see Croft on there.
-
Yeh, the final final list doesn't seem to be anywhere. In fact there's not a huge amount of info around about the auction at all, who's being auctioned when etc.
-
very hush hush isnt it, its because half of it is probably backhand money etc. lots of scandals in the IPL all the time, i bet there is rigged matches as well, either i still like watching it
-
Isn't there 10 teams and each team has to have 5 indians but there were 48 only indian players in the auction with the rest being made up by unknown/uncapped indian cricketers. Hence why they have all sold for over the odds.
-

KKR looks solid with my fav Eoin Morgan :)
-
I got passed over, my agent is hopeful I will get a deal in the next round :(
-

Harsha Bogle reckons you score too slowly and don't bring enough to the table Buzz! What do you say to that? :P
-
Shame that a guy who plays round our way didn't get into the Mumbai team, he had trials but that was the last I heard.
-
Harsha Bogle reckons you score too slowly and don't bring enough to the table Buzz! What do you say to that? :P
Harsha Boggle knows nothing (!!!)
I think the issue was that I said I wasn't prepared to go out on the smash every night as I wanted to go to the nets and work on my forward defence. It didn't go down well with Shilpa Shetty or Preity Zinta :o
I was only asking for $200,000 a season - I thought I would sell at least that many shirts on this site alone!! ;)
-
kieswetter up for auction?
-
Injured i believe
-
Jhunjhunwala (played for Mumbai Last year, not sure whom this year....) played as the overseas for a club quite near me, in Hertfordshire: Botany Bay, if any of you know of it... :)
Just a little bit of trivia for you all haha :D
-
Availability is playing a part with a few players as gayle can only play for two weeks so no one has bid as he is a must for this format plus pollard seemed to go cheap
-

Pollard was retained by Mumbai
-
Ahh thought it was a low price do they just retain them at the same price they paid before then?
-
http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2011/content/current/story/495980.html
How is Johan Botha Better than swann????
-
Swann was part of the 20/20 world cup winning side as well
-
thats what i was thinking johnny
-
Ahh thought it was a low price do they just retain them at the same price they paid before then?
Mumbai retained 4 players and they can split $4.5m between the 4 players.
-
I'm sure pollard will be pissed as he would have made a fortune but hey it's not a bad wage
-
The explaination that they gave for not picking Swann was contradicted by picked Botha
-
IPL franchises thought Swann's reserve of $400k was too high for someone not around for all of the tournament.
In addition, the same guy said, overseas off spinners aren't very popular.
Botha seemed very popular tho....
-
Im not a fan of the way players get chopped and changed from one team to another..
I would rather players stayed with the original team as it shows that the IPL is all about money and not about being a team sport
-

I agree in a way, but it stops one franchise from becoming dominant over a long period.
Plus, with 2 new teams they had to start more or less from scratch anyway
-
Splitting Sehwag and Gambhir is not a great Idea either as they are best of friends and have played together for most of their lives
-

Delhi's owners wanted a change.
They could've retained Nannes, AB and Gambhir - along with Sehwag

How is Johan Botha Better than swann????
It is widely believe on the sub-continent that if you chuck it, you are a good bowler.
-
Daniel Christian hits the jackpot after going for $900k!
-
What a joke.
-
would like to see more England players get a chance over there, the list shows that 10-15 very average Aus players have been signed yet players like Swanny didnt get a bid
-
to be fair Botha did ok in the T20 WC - 5.66 Economy and 4 wickets in (only) 3 games. Swann got 10 wickets with an economy of 6.54 - but at least he got someone out unlike Harby Singh - 0-123 in 20 overs, lovely.
It's a joke, designed to make very average Indian players rich and anyone who makes themselves available for the whole tournament.
Look on the bright side, Swanny goes back into the auction today and a few franchises who have missed out on their preferred picks may take him and Anderson.
-
Botha is a decent T20 bowler who can bat a bit, but his price is too high imo.
There were loads of english players in the auction i hadn't heard of! Worth sticking your name down i suppose...
-
i knew Rilee Rossouw would get bought! Quality talent!
-
Alphonso Thomas got snapped up.
-
No surprise the Fonz was snapped up, given his death bowling ability, and form last season!
-
Who do you think the biggest surprise signing was?
Im thinking
Chris Lynn
Matt Wade
Faf Du Plessis
James Pattinson
Michael Klinger
-
Dimi Maskyouranus to Punjab
-
Daniel Christian went for $900,000 and his base price was only $50,000!
-
I think if you held your nerve & waited at the auction, you'd get some really good overseas players for peanuts.
-
Steve O'Keefe bargain at $20k
-
ipl continues to be a joke and dodgy dealings ! m. marsh bought by his dad for $290 000 and the aussie coach buying dan christian for $900 000.
-
Gayle didn't get bought did he?
-
Michael Vaughan mentioned on his twitter about all the coaches being Australia or South African and hence those players were getting brought. You need English coaches to get English players playing apparantly.
I reckon the Colly retirement might of been a little pushed a bit by the IPL. Colly gets $250k for 2 years, possibly more than he would've got from playing test cricket. I'd wouldn't have put it past Warne to have tapped Colly up during the ashes - he was very nice about him at the end of the series :-)
-
Gayle didn't get bought did he?
No, reason is he was only free to play for 2 weeks
-
as I understand it, the auction price gets reduced according to the players availability anyway. ie. if Gayle is available 2 weeks out of 6 - his 400k for 2 years would be 200k for 1 year / 0.3 = 60k for 2011 (something like that).
The flipside of this is when he isn't around they need to find a suitable replacement - which is a pain in the (No Swearing Please) and hence why Franchises go for players available for 6 weeks, because it makes planning alot easier. That's why KP only fetched 650k as well.
Colly being available all 6 weeks probably got him the gig. Anderson's limited availability and Flowers threat to pull him out on a whim didn't help.
Still surprised that nobody took a punt on gayle, swann, anderson, wright.
-
I am surprised that all the franchised did not spend their full purse..... a while back they were asking BCCI/IPL governing council to allow them to increase their purse or retain more players....
The msot aggressive has been KKR in picking up their players......
Pune bagged 3 good players as well Robin Uthapa (highly talented and mightily ignored by BCCI), Yuvi amd Murali Karthik...
The mantra this time seems to be young, agile and talented
I think Chennai did the right thing in trying to retain as many of their old players as possible.....
-
alot of deals are done after the auction - so you might see the likes of Gayle/Anderson/Swann playing after all and I think that still comes out the purse.
-
Franchises have to sign 6 Indian's under the age of 22, so they can't blow their entire purse in the auction.
Players capped at full International level can't be sign outside the auction, unless they are replacements for injured or unavailable players.
Swann, Anderson and Wright gathered no interest as their base price was $400k, they should have taken the same route as Morgan(base price was $200k) and had a lower base price.
Overseas spinners don;t sell well barring Murali and Warne, both getting over $1m. Botha was a strange one, can't understand how he was more expensive than Vettori(arguably the best spinner in T20 cricket in terms of economy).
Van Der Merwe was sold for $50k
Suraj Randiv was sold for $80k
Steve O'Keefe was sold for $20k
Steven Smith was sold for $200k
These guys where bargain buys.
Even Murali Kartik only went for $400k.
Pune bagged 3 good players as well Robin Uthapa (highly talented and mightily ignored by BCCI)
Yash, Uthappa is rubbish, he's been running his mouth for 3 years how he's one of the best players in India, yet he does little to show that. He thought he could be w/k and gave up. He opened the batting and gave up. The guy is a quitter.
-

Wasn't Dimitri Mascarenhas brought by Rajastan outside auction originally - he was capped in 2007. Cricinfo article:-
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ipl/content/story/348011.html
Uthappa was outstanding in 2010, did you watch the IPL last year?

Uthappa wasn't anything special. He was behind Raina, Vijay, Rohit and S Tiwary in the run charts. All these guys have leapfrogged him into the nation side.
Regarding Dimi, no English players entered the auction in 2008, so Dimi was purchased after the auction. Additionally Dimi wasn't a Test player, so it was easier to get him.
-
fair enough Jeet - I thought he was outstanding from the games I watched.
I'm not sure your thoughts on Dimitri made sense - he had ODI caps and was a full international. If memory serves me right he smacked 5 sixes in an over in an ODI at the Oval in 2007, so he'd of certainly have been a key England player at that point. However, things might of changed since then - we'll see if anyone pops up between now and the 8th April :-)

No what I meant was, if your an ODI/T20 player, boards are more likely to give permission outside the auction.
Regular Test players aren't usually given clearance outside the auction.
-
franchises can get permission to fill in replacement slots after the auction if someone they bought is not available....i believe mascarenhas was bought using that route
-
Had an argument with a friend yesterday over the most represented nation bar India, It's Australia, right?
-
easy way to work it out - count which nation has the most coaches. It'll probably be Australia - that's right the greatest T20 nation in world cricket after winning none of the last 3 world cups.
IPL isn't about logic I'm afraid.
-
A few extra signings
Michael Lumb to Deccan
Dimitri Mascarenhas to Punjab
A few suprise names include
Travis Birt Delhi Daredevils
Nathan Rimmington Kings XI Punjab
Jonathan Vandiar Royal Challengers Bangalore
Aiden Blizzard Mumbai Indians
Robert Frylinck Delhi Daredevils
-
Michael Lumb, Very strange to see him picked up as opposed to many other English players. How much for?
-
Maybe because he's not in the England set up at the moment so he will be available to play the whole tournament? He played last year I think and did alright from what I remember.
-
But surely the reason he is out of the England side is because of his form. From memory didn't he have a reasonably poor county season?
