Look impressive I must say!! The face of Evo and Nitro LE is amazing!!

As usual Oblivion stands out :D:D

Nitro LE face would be ideal for my Oblivion LE along other specs :D

Plus it's only 2' 7 with the profile that it has makes it a very special bat in my view.

that 2lb 8oz oblivion at the bottom is a big bat for the weight

Generally they are top, top bats I feel. In the past few weeks, since Alex has come on the forum, my opinions of GN have changed quite dramatically, I knew they churned out some great bats, but it seemed a lottery, these all look lovely sticks. Out of interest Asad, how many bats did you acquire when you were at their factory. If I had the money, I would be very tempted by one of the lower models on show here, purely as I am a cheapskate! :)

Mind you these low end GN do perform very well, my best performing bat so far is GN Powerbow 3 Star

I agree! Looks massive! Some Oblivion I have seen had big profiles as well!

Exactly Uzair. I used a Xiphos 4* Last year, had a decent knock around with it, got to 25 with some nice shots in there, seemed very responsive. Though it is all pot-luck when you go and buy from a shop... :|

Excuse my GN ignorance - is this Powerbow a new profile?

It looks like it's got a kind of Jumbo / V12 thing going on - or do my eyes deceive me?

I've had a little look at these pics again out of boredom and quite like the 5* Quantum on the right side, when they are next to each other in the photo. Though it is not as big a profile as it's cousin/brother/sister, it has a nice look to it, and I like the combinations of Heartwood and Sapwood on that. Out of interest Asad, could you PM me a price for that. I am off to Fordham Sports with a mate tomorrow, so might check out all their 2011 Kit and get a little review done!

Excuse me for a dumb question but Evo Carbo has a carbon core handle ala C6 of Newbery correct ?
Title: Re: Gray Nicolls Factory Viisit
Post by: johan95 on February 14, 2011, 01:18:45 AM
Yes, I believe so Uzair. Something along those lines at least. And anyone who has links to gray nics in any way, probably Alex is best to answer this, is that a new 2-tone grip on the Quantum. Is that as standard, or specially for those bats? :)
Title: Re: Gray Nicolls Factory Viisit

Then those Oblivion Extreme Pros are nice looking bats!!

On a difference note, does Alex know when GN are going to update their website to a 2011 edition. It still shows Xiphos and has nothing about Oblivion, Legend, Quantum, etc...

Extreme Pro's tend to be much larger in profile and weight (e.g rarely under 2.12) but not always quite as nice as L.E

Carbo handles are 12 piece cane handles, cork springs and a layer of carbo fibre fitted externally to the base of the handle under the binding to try and decrease the  amount of damage from ball strikes up by the splice are. There is not any Carbon inside the handle

Cheers Alex, so this handle does have a splice unlike the ones which are illegal to use at international that don't have splice.

Old Powerbow shape was MILES better than this new one.

Alex, a question for you will it be able to get an old bat from you guys? I mean will you guys have Predator lying somewhere?

We don't have any lying around, they can be made but only on special orders, you would have to find a retailer and get them to contact us to see if it is possible

I wish I could, all I can say is there is one guy who works here who swears by them when playing indoor cricket.

I'm assuming it will be very expensive ? Do you have rough idea regarding the price ?

Basically it is a Predator which Mohammad Yousuf used back in 2006 when he was at his peak!

Alex.......

the E41 having 41mm edges on a 2.7, and all these other massive Gn's we're seeing of late. I'm assuming these bats are being massively overdried. Does this improve performance or is this purely an aesthetics thing?
Title: Re: Gray Nicolls Factory Viisit
Post by: langer17 on September 19, 2011, 10:00:00 AM
The e41's dont have 41mm edges. The bottom of the range do, but the top range ones dont due to structural concerns, that's what it says in the GCCC catalogue and thats what they said to me. In saying that though, they are still very big for the weight
Title: Re: Gray Nicolls Factory Viisit
Post by: thebigginge on September 19, 2011, 11:02:13 AM
Different companies will have different opinions on what "overdried" is as they will operate to a different core moisture content.

I can't speak for the E41 specifically as it is not a uk product but I would assume that they are sourced from timber that has a naturally low moisture content and has been through the same process of kilning as other GN bats. Hence you get some with 41mm edges and some that won't. Glad to see that the boys in OZ take structural integrity into consideration! As for performance. I could not conclusivley say!

I can assure you that most do not from what I've seen anyway. They are still massive and some reach the 41mm edges, but most do not.
Title: Re: Gray Nicolls Factory Viisit
Post by: langer17 on September 19, 2011, 11:40:57 AM
The 41mm edges aren't new as the XXX range at Meulemans from last year had 42-45mm edges and that has continued this year
Title: Re: Gray Nicolls Factory Viisit
Post by: Number4 on September 19, 2011, 11:52:53 AM
I am not doubting you Langer but it doesn't really make sense....when every maker is using the highest quality willow to get the biggest profiles and which are only good for approx 1000 runs and yet GN are getting bigger profiles on their bottom of the range bats.... sounds like the total opposite of what every other batmaker is doing is all
Title: Re: Gray Nicolls Factory Viisit
Post by: thebigginge on September 19, 2011, 12:08:46 PM
We grow all our own willow, we do all raw work from tree to cleft onsite in robertsbridge so we have controll over the kilning process of every cleft before it is exported around the world so we are able to spread these XL clefts that are used for huge profile evenly.
