You'd have to ask Mr Hosk what he thought. I found the Reserve a bit too heavy, so it was between the Ultra and the Heritage, and I'd say so yes ;)

Firstly, it's all healthy debate and thanks for taking my comments in the right spirit. Just to add that I agree that a selection of abilities in the batting isn't a bad thing. Somebody who middles a ball consistently may not recommend a bat that a tailender might. That said, a tailender might not want to spend £200 on a bat, but a batsman would. Tricky one.
I'd spend £200 on a bat, and I'm most certainly not a batsman! But if anything, you can't really judge that, as I know tail-enders owning Lavers in my league, and top order bats with the first thing they found in Intersport. That depends on budget, how much you enjoy batting, rise in price of bats, etc!

The Stig rated the Heritage 1/10 better on pick-up and 3/10 better on looks. He must be a traditionalist at heart. He rated both the same in terms of Ping!

Just as a reminder, these are the results of Batoff I:

From my point of view and judging the Lavers, my thoughts are as follows:

- The Reserve (red stickered as buyer didn't like the green stickers) is not really played in yet so is not at it's optimum yet. But it is a quality willow so will be excellent once played in!

- The Ultra although barely played in goes like a rocket already!

- The Heritage was a more traditional shape, and not really my usual choice of profile

The pickup (on the Heritage) was not brilliant for it's weight due to the lower middle, but it felt ok to me as it was a lighter bat than I'd normally use. I guess that helped with the bat speed to!

The Reserve was as you'd expect - quality bat and responds very well but nowhere near it's optimum yet.
The Heritage was a surprise (for me at least - although the Stig shook his head at it a little!) and I found it a superb bat for driving the ball! It went extremely well, but not as confident for other shots.

The pick for me was the Ultra which (like the Heritage) drove superbly well, but played every shot brilliantly!
Pull shots were dispatched with incredible power! A couple the Stig played hit the side net so hard, that I'm sure I heard the net scream!! And in fact, the next short  ball, I could actually see the side netting shaking nervously in anticipation of another pull shot!
But although the Ultra had scary power, then fact that the Heritage could compete on the driving shots should be applauded!!

And there lies the rub. What's good for the goose, may not be good for the gander.

People will favour different bats based on various things. I still prefer the Heritage, even though the Ultra is pretty special. It suits my style of play better. I'd suggest that both the Ultra and the Heritage have the same amount of wood in them, and as I'm an inch taller or so than Pete, the position of the Heritage middle suits me better!

If there's anything that the Batoff shows it's that different people like different bats on both looks and pick-up/balance and it's the Ping that's the only thing that people tend towards agreement on constantly.
