I had a Redback off Gary, impressed with the overall finish and customer service received. The bats remind me slightly of Hawks, with the rounded shoulders, edges and toes. I didn't like a Hawk I had a while back, so due to the resemblence and also just buying a very nice Warsop I didn't really use the bat.

A friend gave me £150 to get him a bat, and I offered him a Superbest or the Redback - he took the Redback and it seems to be going pretty well. First time he used it was last weekend getting a 50. He's pleased with it, so another happy customer  :)

A hawk X10 i assume as it was a while ago?  Never heard that an Allegiance looks like them before, the profile is nothing like a hawk, the shoulders are cut totally diffrently, not quite sure what you mean about the rounded toe?

I purposley round the edges so they are not so suseptible to damage when being struck by a ball.  If the edges are left square, yes, the look slightly bigger but they have far more chance of cracking when edging a ball.

Glad your friend is happy with the bat, hopefully it will bring him many runs!!

Its ok just my way of plugging my skills, but i'll admit i've got some way to go to get to Garys standards!

Shape wise it's nothing like a Hawk X10, I haven't actually seen a bat with a shape like a Redback Allegiance. From memory the shoulders on your bats and also on the Hawk's are similar, rounded off a bit unlike most companies who have a sharper edge. Same with the toe, a lot of the Pakistani and Indian bats have squared off toes whereas yours again are quite rounded.

Didn't mean to cause offence anyway, was just an observation; I would say it was quite a compliment to have bats compared to those of a batmaker of 40 years.

No offence taken at all, it just seems a slightly odd comment that you didnt get on with the bat because the shoulders were rounded!  I was just pointing out my bats are not really that like hawks.

I think rounding the shoulder/toe cut lines gives a nice flow to the bat.  Alot of people leave them square because it is simply easier/quicker during the sanding process.

I tend to either fall in love with a bat or otherwise sell it. Originally I didn't use it as I had my Fusion and I do dislike having £140 just sat there, so I offered it to a mate who snapped it straight up.

That said, yours and 2 other bats (Kook Kahuna and Impala Redback) I have now regretted selling. When I pick up the majority of other bats off the shelf and compare it to those 3 there's a massive difference in quality. Would buy any of those 3 bats back any day.

SLIGHTLY off the topic, but I had the pleasure of owning on older Redback a few years old. It was the sub-zero model (which in my opinion had the best colour scheme for redbacks) with a low middle, 7 grains (if i remember correctly) and weighed about 2lb 10oz. Like Tom, I normally fall in love with a bat, or sell it. I must get 30-40 bats a year and out of all of the bats I have sold, I really wish I didnt sell the Redback. Was a beautiful bat. I have got some pictures around somewhere, I will upload if i can find them!

You dont have to choose a particular profile, if you ask Gary I'm sure he could make you any profile you wanted.  I have a very traditional profile surefire and I love it! As a general rule of thumb Alleigances are normally more concaved I've found.
