I'd say it depends what you want out of your cricket.

Personally, I like winning. The higher the level the better.

I know that if I get picked in our first team, its because I'm the best fielder, not because they want my batting. I'll bat at 7 or 8 and won't bowl (mind you I wouldn't bowl in blind cricket). But I enjoy the challenge of having balls smashed at me at cover or point all day long, of showing my value to the team through saving 30 runs in the 55 overs or taking a stunning catch or run out. If I'm required to bat then I'll try to do my job, be it finishing the innings or saving a game, but I know I'm picked as a specialist fielder.

This doesn't bother me in the slightest, as when I turn up to league cricket, I turn up to win. That is what is important and everybody should do their best to contribute to that. This attitude makes the game enjoyable even though I'm well aware I'd get more of a bat in our 2nds, 3rds or even our 4th team!

Of course, it does help that I play sundays and tend to get my weekly knock there.

What I'd look at is the reason you're picked. If the captain/cricket manager/selection commitee pick you then they must think you do a job for the team otherwise you'd drop down a team. The question is are you happy with that job, I guess.

The real danger with sticking with your current position is that you will stop enjoying your cricket and as you get older, it is likely that you won't want to give up Sat, Sunday or both for something you don't enjoy. I know a load of lads who were lost to the game in the last 20-25 years because of this.

Being involved and Making a contributions is the biggest key to enjoying your cricket. Play for the team who want you and the one you will contribute in and you will be a much happier cricketer.

I moved clubs and dropped down a level so I could enjoy it more, but I'm nearly 30.

When I was 25 I was in a similar position to Stoney...

So really, I think it's only you that can decide

NEWS UPDATE!!!

Today was decision day for me, and.....

Was given the chance to open, I batted well and solidly fot a decent 19 before getting a dodgey LBW.

Had a big chat with the captain and vice today after the game and they want me to do it for the long haul as they was very impressed.

Its as if they new it was my time to decide...
