Tbh, that's a bit of a **** approach by you forcing someone out the club just because you didn't like it

I didn't force anyone out, he quit after being dropped down the order. Thats a pretty selfish attitude if u ask me & at that time many were fed up of him.

At nets he belted it around yet come the season he lost us so many games with his selfish batting. When he took an age to score a run that final straw for many people. Trying to chase down a total & some chap is batting out maiden after maiden.  Not much fun. Could hardly chase down anything over 160 as he would kill games.

I knew he could hit if and I saw no reason why the skipper kept him opening so I moved him to 7. Like I said he whacked a quick fire 40 and went off moaning after the game. People were not sad that he left.

Ive just remembered as well one game our skipper promoted himself up the order & ran this chap out in the same over with a shocker of a yes no call as he was batting to slow. He had previously shouted at him " hurry up, Ive got my whole middle order sat here padded up"

A quiet chap who sticks around, happy to be more aggressive. Can be frustrating when you run a single off the first ball and watch next 5 but I'd rather be settled than on my third partner and having to go into my shell.

Somebody who calls his runs loudly, doesn't try to coach me, and can put pressure on the bowlers.

Strange, that. I prefer to be the dominant partner, not a clue why, but i don't seem to bat well with another dominant player.

To be honest, I only seem to bat well lately when everyone else is getting themselves out, so haven't really had much of a choice in partner!

You must be my long lost twin brother.  ;)

I am like that as well. I get annoyed when someone tries to coach and then I do whatever I want which leads to some unpleasant situations.  :D

I am an opener and it is hard to find a good partner. Batting is not an individual activity and you need a partner whose playing style and personality works well with yours.

For outdoor cricket I prefer someone who can score thier own runs and disregard whatever I'm doing when Im on strike; I bat 7/8/9 for my uni team with a lot of lads who like to bat like they're playing T20s during a 50 over game. Often I like to come in and drop anchor for a bit to get my eye in.

Indoor I just like someone that either runs or stays; too many times indoor you get run out with a yes, no, sorry. Never bothered about getting out I just hate it when someone comes 1/3 of the way down then turns around  :D

Somebody who calls his runs loudly, doesn't try to coach me, and can put pressure on the bowlers.

Probably one of my pet peeves is someone trying to coach me at the crease; especially the blokes that can only hit cow corner. :o only makes it worse when you're not seeing the ball fairly well and someone comments on it.

Re: running between the wickets (key in a batting partner!), a lot of guys at our club seem to only take into account their own running ability when judging a single or a two, am I the only cricketer who actually takes into account who I'm batting with when judging a run? So many run outs I've seen over the past few seasons have ended in the caller being home safe and sound and the non caller being the one going to the danger zone and being too slow. Now obviously some of this may be down to poor backing up but I see so many players who just refuse to appreciate that not everyone runs at the same speed! One of our openers is like a scalded whippet between the wickets and he regularly gets wound up that people don't push for quick singles and twos/threes as much as him but if you're batting with someone in their 50's the chances of them keeping up with a particularly athletic 20somethingyearold are slim!

Sorry for being slightly off topic but all this talk of running between the wickets got me thinking.

TL;DR..... Good running between the wickets means also taking into account what your batting partner is capable of, rather than just what you are capable of.

That is where my problem lies! I'm a more than capable batsman but I'm badly unfit and slow, yet batting partners keep calling for singles/twos/threes that aren't possible with me, but maybe with others they are. It's got to the point now where I've been selfish but in my mind for the good of the team in the long run. I now just say NO and if they're half way down the wicket it's their own fault if they get out, then I think they will learn and we will run suitably without either of us getting run out.

For what its worth I can understand how frustrating it could be for everyone else batting with someone slow between the wickets but it is what it is I'm afraid.
