Bat refurb back from Gray Nicolls
« on: March 08, 2011, 01:24:40 PM »

Bought this bat from kibbs_11 and sent it off to GN for refurb. Despite a bit of a mixup with the return i was very impressed with their service and comms.

The bat was originally a GN Powerbow force, and i asked for them to apply Oblivion stickers. They have also fitted an anti scuff, a white toe guard and 2 grips

Here are the old pictures (taken from kibbs_11 post http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=7140.msg151946#msg151946)

and here are the new pics

Not sure if im going to hang on to it to be honest, i just have too many bats!

Steep I think. What happened to the back? They just look like they haven't bothered with sanding down the parts where it is dented?

I bought it like that, had a few dents etc on it. They have been sanded down but i think if they had gone any further down they'd probably have had to take a fair bit of wood off which would have made it quite light (its about 2.7 as it is according to the scales in my office).

Its pretty standard pricing IMO, most places seem to quote the refurb price without taking shipping it there and back. Thats what i found anyway

OMG! 43.99 for that? I could do better with my finger nails!

I think you should send it back and ask them what they are playing at. I wouldnt be happy with that at all.

That's bloody shocking get on to gn and give them grief, they have probs just machine sanded that for about 5 minutes.

It should be taken back to 'white' wood!

Probs not worth spending so much on a refurb for a Grade 3/4 bat anyway. If I were you, I'd have tried my hand at refurbing it myself ...

It is hard/impossible to remove stud marks from the bat when refurbishing, those that moan should have a go themselves.

I think everyone understands that its hard but thats no excuse not to do it especially when charging that much for it. Have refurbed plenty of my own bats, some with stud marks, i dont think they are impossible to clean. I bet the guy who refurbed it would have made a better job if it was his own bat.

depends if ian asked for them to be taken out as it would mean shaving off wood from the bat and adjusting its weight and balance as a result of it.

How do you sand an indentation without removing willow?

I'd love to see it done.

only thing i would not be happy with is they have not sanded enough you can still see the marks from the bat sticker down the bottom.

Sorry agree about the studs but that is plain poor stuff and shoddy work..

look at the bottom of the bat

I would not accept that
