The bat that destroyed Robin Smith, or the Gray Nicolls Ultimate as it is also known. used to devastating effect by David Boon, this bat single-handedly undid Robin Smith when he tried to play Spin, or rather, Shane Warne. It is another early nineties design.

This is the Extraface version and weighs in at just under 2lb 10oz, although when picking it up I'd have said that it was far nearer 2lb 12oz. What's perhaps more surprising, is that for a bat with a reasonable crack obvious under the facing, it has amazing ping! I was really surprised as to what the mallet did off it. It's going to be used in our LMS T20 games as a spare, but I think it has the capacity to score loads of runs. The middle is a lot larger than the shape of the bat suggests. Quite a surprise really. .

This one is a bit of a classic. Probably my favourite of the Vintage Bats in my current not very extensive set.

The Slazenger V500 Select in short handle. A bit of an Eric Loxton masterpiece from the mid-nineties. The bat itself has a lovely shape and pick-up and although the Select is supposedly Grade 2, this one is a bit of a looker. This particular copy is a 2lb 11oz edition, but picks up slightly better than the Ultimate, so around 2lb 9oz to 2lb 10 oz.

What struck me about the shape is that it has a very similar "power bulge" to the current Kookaburra CCX shape, if not quite as pronounced. Off the mallet, it has a good middle, and reasonable ping for a bat of its age. It still feels perfectly usable in a game, and I reckon most of us would score runs with it.

I believe these were used by Alec Stewart back in the day, and this is a wonderful edition of it!

I have a Slazenger v12 here and i will stick some pics up in the morning as it is a very intresting shape

Yup, I used to own one of those, many moons ago... My second bat ever, which of course no-one keeps.

i have a Duncan fearnley graeme hick supreme , still in perfect condition, with all original stickers. used it once last season its still got an awesome middle.

Anyone got a slaz v12 or symonds tusker. I used to love those bats. SS Jumbo, DF Magnum those were the days. . .

Heres 3 V12's
The oldest was my first full size bat. I got it when I got into the Cumbria schoolboys squad. The coach a guy called Mr Dalton I think got me 3 bats to try out a Newbury(with the round logo). A GN Scoop fabric coated with grains printed on the fabric and the V12.
Got the V12 which was heavier than me at the time.
The Polyarmoured one is an unused deadstock bat.
