Are these cricket balls widely used in league cricket around the UK ?

How do they perform ?

I think we've had a couple of games with the ones you've posted, they're better than the latter but worse than the aforementioned readers 'gold a' ones.

I have a few and they don't stay new for long, they have poor quality leather and it scuffs badly on lush pitches so would be terrible on hard tracks.

Yeah, got 6 for net practice. Not outstanding, they don't last new long and the varnish is a pest but okay for nets not rock hard

It would appear then that the quality of this ball has dropped from a few years ago. They used to keep a good shine for 40+ overs (workable shine) and shape was also good.

We used one of these at the weekend and after 50 overs of play with it it still had most of the lacquer on it! The rain came and no one could hold on to it properly....it had travelled to the boundary fairly often up to that point as well...maybe just an odd ball in the batch I guess but never seen that before after 50 overs. At least it's not a kookaburra eh?

I've a Readers Ball in my bag that cost 15 quid last year. It got used for 40 overs in a T20 match where the scores were about 150 per side. It still shines up spectacularly and I get great swing from it even in the grass nets.

Some of the readers balls are actually very good!

We use the best Readers ball in our league (don't know the model name). They are awful, very rarely do they swing for more than 10 overs and they go softer than the Dukes County International we had been using. The ball is easily scuffed up too, they seem like marmite in our league.

Dread to think how much your match fees are if your using the top of the range �85 ball!

We used Hunts County last year which were really good. Switched this year and they're (No Swearing Please). I hate them

Hunts County are good quality balls, one of our lads was a rep for them so we picked some up for dirt cheap, really good ones too!

The key with balls is that they are not very old with perished leather, some people get the nod to supply a league and buy cheap balls in bulk for the next 3 years if they then get another 3 years you could have a match ball that has been knocking around for 6 years and the tallow's in the leather have gone.

For league quantity you can have the best ball in the world for a fraction of the selling price so there really is no need for poor league balls except greed.

In our league we are only allowed to use Dukes & Readers and possibly GM or something like that, i certainly wouldn't buy any Ball from Readers and don't. I like Dukes and only buy Dukes and as i buy them and get first use of the new ball i buy as i see fit, find Readers to go soft and not shine well and the seam isn't as pronounced and I'm told they don't swing as much which i do find true although i don't swing the ball a great deal.
