I thought you meant Samit Patel!

I think we have most bases covered with those two. Patel is my role model and a great example of how the 1980's training regime has a place in the modern game.

The thing with Patel is that he's actually a pretty decent cricketer, i just don't see that in Wright.

Someone seems to think otherwise though!

dissapointing were still using the "also rans" such as Bopara and Wright for the ODI's they seem to yoyo between the side and are always turend to when in doubt.

Why not throw in a younger player with the likes of Hildreth and Taylor scoring big runs for the Lions only to be overlooked.

JT's time will come, you can't ignore class forever and you feel Wright is on his last chance...but we have been saying that for 2 years so who knows!

commentators were ripping into wiright at the world cup. he's there as an all-rounder, but rarely bowls, and batting is not up to the mark to warrant a place in the side if he doesnt bowl. james taylor ftw!

Couldnt agree more about Luke Wright, doesnt seem to have a defined role in the side so it makes it weird that he keeps getting picked

It's tricky. Nos. 3-6 pick themselves, which preclude Taylor/Bopara/Hildreth/AN Other. Cook has to open and to fit five bowlers in (i.e. 7-11) the 'keeper will need to open. I'd like to move on from Anderson in the ODIs. Not keen on Patel, but it looked inevitable.

Edit: though I suppose Bell could open with Cook, freeing up space for the keeper to bat down the order.

Bell is class, Him and Cook to open with Trott at 3 could result in us being not-that-many for 1 off 50 every game though.
I've also always been of the school of thought that you pick your best keeper (Foster) but we don't bat deep enough in ODI's to pick him...shame because he's our best pure One Day 'keeper since Russell. :/

What about Kieswetter? He is young, a good wicket-keeper and a very good batsmen. He is most likely the best wicket-keeper batmen in the country and yet never gets his fair chance. And then bring in Dernbach instead of Anderson as he seems to struggle in the sorter form of the game.

My ideal top 5 would be:
Cook
Kieswetter
Trott
Pieterson
Bell
