IPL Auction - The new million dollor babies i.e. cricketers.....
« on: February 06, 2009, 10:10:32 AM »

Of the 50 players in the pool, 17 cricketers were picked up by the various franchises of the IPL. Here are the results of the auction. The base price of the cricketers is in brackets:

Pool A

    *
Shaun Tait to Rajasthan Royals $375,000 (250,000) - A real "Toe and knuckel breaker" man to watch out
    *
JP Duminy to Mumbai Indians $950,000 (300,000) - I like this guy. He's so composed and cool while batting.
    *
Andrew Flintoff to Chennai Super Kings $1.55 million (950,000) - think he was underrated when the base prices were set, but knew wopuld fetch the same as KP. Let's hope his fanchise gets the full 2 weeks from him and no injuries :)
    *
Kevin Pietersen to Bangalore Royal Challengers $1.55 million (1.35 million) - Hope he lives upto his reputation. Needs to tame his ego. Lost a chance to make a 100 in the test...ego...ego and more ego

Pool B

    *
Fidel Edwards to Deccan Chargers $150,000 (150,000)
    *
Owais Shah to Delhi Daredevils $275,000 (150,000)

Thilan Thushara to Chennai Super Kings $140,000 (125,000)
    *
Jesse Ryder to Royal Challengers Bangalore $160,000 (100,000) - May well be the new underdog

    *
      Phil Jaques -- Unsold
    *

Mashrafe Mortaza was bought for about $600,000 / $550,000 more than his base price!! I am zapped....maybe the Knightriders needed to buy some big name.... I hope he lives upto his expectations. I would have put money on Owis shah and jesey ryder....

never had any hopes for Haddin as every team has a good keeper - Gilchrist, Brandon, MS Dhoni, Parthiv patel, etc

KKR needs some enlightment from the right source to move in the right direction....Aparently, after their dismal performace in the last season there have been difference between the Franchise owners and Saurav Ganguly.

Personally, I do not see them doing much better this time.

Also there is a ongoing legal battle between the Bengal cricket association and Shah Rukh Khan (SRK). The Cricket association wants SRK to pay the extra money they have spent putting the team together but as per the rules of the IPL SRK is nor obliged to do so.

I think both the franchisee and the cricket association are sticking together for thier pride else they would have parted ways long back. Notably, their in no bigger brand in India as SRK...at least today.

Apparently SKR wanted to sign McCullum, but Ganguly wanted to sign Gilly because he was going to be availible for the whole IPL season last year, whilst McCullum only played in a few games, but scored a cracking hundred.

Brad Haddin hardly bucket hands himself.

Anyway Parthiv plays as a batsman not a wicketkeeper in the IPL.

Do the players who were bought by a side last year play for that side this year as well?
