GOOD
I scored my first league 50 (ended up on 64) which i was pretty happy with. I also got pushed up the order to open which i enjoyed the responsibility and the concept of having to time my innings rather than slogging at 5/6 with a few overs left. Took quite a few impiortnant slip catches which i was more amazed about considering i couldnt catch a cold last year. My side finished 4th after just avoiding relegation last year so all round was a pleasing year

BAD
Too many poor shots and lack of concentration meant i got too many low scores which meant my average was awful. Something i really need to work on is my concentration, i have (some) ability but its actually taking it forward and applying it i struggle with.

Targets for next year are to score more runs on a consistent basis. Also i need to work on my sulking when i get out, i think ive retired about 5 times this year only to retract it in the bar after the game!

Not nearly enough matches played but those few I did I enjoyed immensely. No concerns about nasty opposition, in club politics, being dropped. Just a good bunch of people playing for the most important thing, enjoyment.

I've not bothered to look at the final tallies for the season because I really don't care about personal achievement. I know I got one hundred in June and took a few wickets, but those details are insignificant in the grand scheme.

Apart from not playing enough, if every future season is as enjoyable as this one, I won't complain.

Runs - not many, spent two thirds of the season not batting or getting out in unlucky fashion when feeling good. Typified by batting twice in 22 matches in the league, and not getting out once. Not much I can do when we rack up 375-4,350-2, 343-6,334-7 & twice chased 110 for nought etc. Last third I got a few 30/40s on Sundays but on the whole not much to get excited about, couple of hundred runs at 20ish.

Bowled a bit more second half of the season and 14 wickets @ 12, isn't bad considering I took 5-33 bowling medium swingers then injured my heal. Spending the remainder of the season bowling left arm spin darts. Got 33 wickets in total including Sundays, so not bad. Catching ratio surprisingly improved, apart from 1 blobbed at point I took most stuff but then again only a couple were difficult. Biggest problem was injuries - back and heal hampered me all season, then again I did play 36 games still, at least I have 6 months off lol!

well...

started the season at the beginning for the first time due to my semi-retirement from my number one sport, football. a broken collarbone and a groin injury put paid to that.

i began as 3rd team captain, a position which i had filled in for most of the previous season. i was expecting to keep and open the batting for the 3s as well as skipper the side.

got asked to play and keep for the 1sts in a couple of pre season friendlies which was a good learning experience, and i found that the harder it was the more i enjoyed it. i worked hard on my keeping throughout the early season and come the first league game i was selected for the 2nds (for whom i had deputised a couple of times last year). although reluctant to leave my 3rds, i made the step up and kept tidily, batting 7.

2nds then lost the only other wk/opener due to child care issues and i was told that i'd be replacing him at the top of the order and keeping every week for the 2nds. i had to let go of the 3rd team captaincy but redoubled my efforts to work on my keeping and justify my selection.

(side not: our previous 2nd XI keeper had unbelievable hands and only didn't play 1sts because of his poor relationship with the 1st team skipper, so i had big shoes to fill!)

i did a job at the top of the order, mostly picking up 20s and 30s but sticking around long enough to see the shine off the ball and give our sloggers a chance to whack it. i was still working hard on my keeping and batting and hoped that if the aforementioned keeper were to come back i'd stay in the team for my batting at least.

then came the breakthrough.

a really rich vein of form coincided with a good read through Buzz's coaching manual. in the space of 4 games in the week after i received it, i managed scores of 75, 87, and 104. the 75 was the first time i had passed 50 all season, and then the 87 was my maiden 2nd XI 50. this was quickly followed by my maiden 2nd XI 100, to leave me top scorer in the 2nds and 6th overall in the league.

i ended the season 3rd in the league for dismissals behind the stumps - our home ground is well reknowned as a batsman's paradise and with no recognised spinner in my team my opportunities are limited! i do my best though.

i'm really proud of my achievements this season as i feel i've been rewarded for taking a keener interest in cricket which is usually my "2nd sport". i'm expecting to be awarded the 2nd team batting award at the club's presentation night, which last year was won by my best mate. he's sick as a parrot, and the healthy rivalry will keep us going well into next season i'm sure!

i apologise if this seems self-congratulatory but i honestly am so pleased to have achieved what i have this season. i really have to give another mention to Buzz because his coaching manual does make an awful lot of sense, and while i certainly didn't go out to bat with his words ringing in my ears, i'm sure it must have helped me. :)

1 more game to go but not a great season really as this could be my last game for the club as over past couple of years some very bad attitudes have been allowed to grow and are now just accepted so I may play in the 2nds or take one of the clubs I've spoken to up on there offers

But on the field poorest season with bat for 6 years I have just not felt comfertable at the crease but great season with the ball as skipper has been persuaded to have faith in spin and I'm the leading wicket taker in club plus got the call up and played two games for the county which was tough but enjoyable

But best of all was son getting his shot in the under 13's and not doing bad playing above his age group

Firstly Rich, thanks for the very kind words, the book only concentrates the mind, it certainly doesn't score you any runs. But I am really glad you like it.

As for my season, I had a competely average league season... see the below comparison of my games this year v's all years at my club...Having said that 3 ducks was a league record for me (not great as an opening bat!!)

Year Games Inns NO Runs  High  Avg    50 100 Ducks %Team Runs
All     101     95   7   2688  178  30.55  15   4  12      14.05
2011  16      14   0   452    100  32.29   3    1   3      14.45

To be honest, I feel pretty frustrated with it as i felt in form for most of the season but didn't push on to make the big scores I have in the last couple of years. My team finished 3rd in the league, which was a massive choke as we really should have won the league - we had the best team but messed up too many games thinking we were the best team. Arrogance. not good. Bowlers more than batters to blame really -  which is harsh, but we typically scored lots of runs - although were rubbish at chasing scores.

I'll do what Buzz did cos it was such a good idea...
Shows a comparison between this year, last year and total.
My 4 50s this year were all in league which makes a change.

I'm missing a 39, 34 and 12* off my batting though unfortunatlely and 4 or 5 wickets but that's it.

It was a good season for me, very close to getting bowler of the season for my U17 team(I dropped a caught and bowled final ball of the penultimate match which cost me the award) and my Saturday team(Although I did get Young player of the season for them which makes up for it I guess...). My fielding improved remarkably on the season before especially catching, I went from dropping almost everything last season to catching almost everything this season(3 drops all season).

One thing that could have gone better is batting, I have the technique to make big scores but just don't concentrate enough. I averaged 10 in midweek, 7 on Saturdays and 1.8 on Sundays... However hopefully I can work on that now my bowling has improved dramatically and become more of an all-rounder.

I enjoyed this year more than last year due to the fact that I cemented my place in the Saturday 1's and managed to move up to opening rather than 4/5/6. Satistically this year was less successful than last year but technically I have come on a little and have held my own at a higher level than the previous season. I also managed to steal a few overs here and there and mixed leg-side crap with some good accurate swing bowling (2-10 off 6 overs at end of innings to defend 157 by 4 runs the best example).

I have 2 games left so hope to get 66 more runs to beat last seasons tally. Hopefully next year we will go up after just missing out and I may even get a few league overs if i sort out my leg-side tendencies over the winter.

Season Matches Innings  NO  Runs    High      Average   100s   50s   Catches

2011       36           35     2    992      116 *    30.06      1     7     14
2010       32           30     7    1057     121 *    45.96      1     7      8
2009       11            9     1    109       35         13.63      0     0      3

Awful season, think i played 6 games in all (4 league 2 sundays) until my shoulder could no longer. Plus sides to the year, enjoyed taking up keeping and looking into doing it long term.

A mixed season really, my keeping improved out of all sight really and I ended up 3rd in the club for dismissals, not a lot of catches though, but I got cheated out of 3 catches. Batting wise I had a good season in the end, I felt in decent nick and after moving up to open I batted well but got some good balls as you do and some bad shots cost me having a good average. Scored my fitst 50 for the club and should have had at least 2 more but got out on 43 and 41,
Anyway as previous people have done here's the breakdown;
Year   Games   Inns   NO   Runs   High   Avg   50   100   Ducks   %Team Runs
All   59            57    9    757    59*   15.77 1    0    5              7.73
2011   25            25    3    367    59*   16.68 1    0    3              9.1       8 catches and 13 stumpings
2010   25            23    4    284    37   14.95 0    0    2              6.58

All first team matches, mixture of ECB Prem and Div 1, plus a few 1st cup matches. First time playing seriously for a few years. Not a bad season all told - some poor umpiring decisions and poor shot selection.
