Traditional vs. Modern Pads
« on: November 06, 2011, 05:48:18 PM »

Hi guys,

Appreciate that not everyone on here is a wicketkeeper, but this is obviously aimed at those of you who are.

(Even if you aren't any views and suggestions are more than welcome!!  ).

At the moment I have Puma Ballistic 5000 Flextech Keeping Pads. I have been toying with the idea of more traditional pads for ages now, and was wondering if the keepers out there could offer any opinions as to how they compare.

Also if you're a keeper, which style of pad do you use (if at all    ).

Having said that, I try and use my gloves a lot

If you were to buy a traditional style pad on the market right now, which one would you go for.

Atm I am thinking Newb SPS as for £28 they are great value.

Please let me know your opinions, thanks for reading!

I prefer the style of modern and I used the adidas pro pads. But if I was to buy again I would try on & see which was the most comfy. I only got hit on mine once, but I wouldn't buy them again as I didn't find them very comfy.

I personally don't like the adidas or puma 'robocop' type as I'm more of a traditionalist. I've got some GM Original Paul Nixon pads. They have nice deep cutouts for sitting on top of my shoes which means the side bits almost touch the floor. I like knowing my ankles are well protected. They're also very light and have superb padding.

I used kookaburra neons and puma flextech's last year and much preferred the flextechs. I found them comfier and had better protection

All the modern pads make keepers look like storm troopers, it's a common sledge for one keeper in my league

Have worn puma fxt's for many years now, find them lighter and more comfortable than traditional type pads and gave never had an issues with protection either. Have never been sledges for them either, I guess if you catch the all most batsmen shut up!

Need to invest in a storm-trooper helmet then, rude not to go all out!

lmao @ storm trooper lol.....i use traditional ones but I love the look of some of the modern ones. Such as the puma ones, which belong to Saj Mahmood in the aswani section. There were also some awesome mongoose ones for sale a while ago - they were just wow
