I'm keeping an eye out for a reasonably priced new helmet and I'm interested in your thoughts on titanium grilles.

Are the titanium grilles worth the extra cost over steel? Are they really that much lighter and are they thinner? If they are thinner does that help noticeably with visibility. Are there any grille's that are designed better than others and would be recommended?

Next up does anyone have any recommendations for helmets aside from ayrtek as they're a bit outside my budget (max about �60). I'm tempted by the masuri with the steel grille from kickback sports as it seems a bargain for �39 but just wondering if anyone has any other recommendations or any titanium grille helmets for a good price.

Think tom is more educated on this than anyone else. But I think they are wort it. Simply they give more protection.

I have been hit on the face quite flush on the steel grille, nothing happened to me or the grille. That said I have never used a titanium grille so do not know the difference.

All depends on the speed of the delivery. one of the lads got hot last year and luckily enough he had an ayrtek elite with ti grill.

Titanium is 5 x stronger than steel and prob 50% lighter at least but can recommend them after puttin the England Physio straight after seeing the videos they showed me

We don't actually stock any Titanium grille helmets at the moment because steel grilles are much more popular at amateur/club level. Unless you're facing bowlers of 80mph+ a titanium just doesn't seem worth the extra cost in my opinion.

We have particularly good prices on the GM Purist Pro - have you considered this one? Otherwise, all our helmets in your price range are listed on the below link:

Think Tom covers it quite well in his post above. Ti grills are 5x stronger than steel.

I replied saying the same but deleted as i think we both misread slightly fletcheruk, titanium itself is 5 times stronger than steel, but is the same volume of titanium used as steel or is the grille thinner as the material is 5 times stronger? Although thinking about it titanium grilles are most likely stronger and lighter, but not 5 times stronger as the bars are thinner (true for the grilles i've seen anyway)

Thanks for the replies, at the standard I play I'm sure a steel grille will be enough protection so a titanium may be overkill.

Rather than pure protection it was the lightness and visibility that I was most interested in. Probably doesn't make much difference but has anyone found a difference with a titanium grille in terms of weight and visibility?

Also if titanium is the way to go does anyone know of any good deals on at the moment?

I find that the visibility on my ayrtek titanium is much better than previous steel grill helmets

Ti will be lighter than steel...our steel is 300g vs our Ti which is 160g (both approx weights) hence why u pay more for a Ti version

I will be selling my masuri ti shortly, I'm awaiting an ayrtek from Tom :-)

It's large navy used for one season. Not sure on price yet as want to check the fit of the ayrtek on my massive head before selling. Let me know if you are interested
