Me batting at indoor nets

Comment if you like, only the first net session since end of season.
Compliments and fair criticism are both appreciated.

Agree with getting that foot further across, as front foot goes to about middle/ middle & off.

You may want to try closing that stance.  I used to have an open stance similar & was recommended to close up & when I did that it helped considerably.(Good coach from warwickshire I think)

I found myself watching the guy in the net next to you - he was offering some good value!

Personally I wouldn't change too much you have a nice tall set up and a natural way of playing.
I think you are starting too far outside the leg stump you outside eye is not over off stump, which is why you may be struggling to reach some of the gentle half vollies being lobbed at you and will cause you trouble when leaving the ball.
Other than that it is a very friendly way to start your winter nets!

sorry to say I am not sure I agree with all the comments above :o ;)

but it is great to get a nice technique question, it has been a while :)

Start of many I would think Buzz as pre-season training kicks in.

I noticed the same.
you are trying to reach out to balls outside the offstump away from the body.

May be you make a  slight shuffle with your backfoot slightly across to the middle stump ( just before the ball is delivered) and then move your front foot towards to ball. It might help you to be in a better position to drive or leave the ball outside the off stump.

nnnoooooo keep your stillness and simple technique - don't increase your movement!!
Just make sure your guard is in the right place!

by doing "a  slight shuffle with your backfoot slightly across to the middle stump " you run the risk of opening yourself up making it harder to get your foot across to the pitch of the ball.

your movement should be led by your head and eyes, not your feet, which is why I push this mantra.

sorry to dissagree!!

keep your technique as simple as possible - start in the right place then there is less that can go wrong.

Again, I would just say get that front foot closer to the ball if you can... Although I can't talk as I'm awful do doing the same thing! I end up not getting close enough to the ball, leaning back and hitting the ball in the air which isn't ideal... Unless you're confident enough of clearing the field!
