The Shoe Doctor, Taunton Spiking Service Review
« on: February 08, 2012, 04:15:15 PM »

Hi Guys i recently sent my shoes off to The Shoe Doctor in Taunton to be spiked and here are the results.

I intially rang Steve at the shop to tell him my requirements and as this was my first time spiking a set of trainers he was extremely helpful and informative. He was also new to doing this and had only started doing it after a certain local captain/legend enquired about a spiking service last season. We chatted about his illustrious clients (Trescothick & most of the somerset playing staff to name a few) and instantly his laid back and chatty attitude filled me with confidence. Also if his product held up to the rigors of a County Season worn by a Pro then i was in no doubt that it would be sturdy enough for a bit of grazing around a few grounds in Cornwall. I sent the shoes off and within 3/4 days (depending on his workload) i paid him over the phone and had no issues whatsoever. I received the shoes this morning after a wait of a week. Communication throughout the transaction was superb and i would highly recommend anyone wishing to have this done to use Steve @ The Shoe Doctor!!!

Now some pics, 1 pair is a mates and we both asked for half spike on the front. Both shoes had a flat sole but Steve said he could do any specifications we asked. Here are the pics below and a link to his site.

The shoes are New Balance RT760 & Nike Dual Fusion ST2

Delighted, forgot to mention the spikes screw in and out as well so replacing them is very easy. Steve's a top bloke, he couldn't do enough!!

The cost

£6 sending them up to Taunton via Parcel Monkey, and in total £56 posted for two pairs to be sent back. He mentioned he was upping his prices slightly as demand was getting a bit higher.

Not bad then, think Brian and Brenda charge about 35 inclusive of postage

Thought I would roll this picture out (again) so people can compare the different options, mine were done by Brian and Brenda.
I have to say I think your new balance trainers have come up a treat, but my Nike trainers are splendid!!

I should be able to upload some more pics of them tonight so you can compare the different finishes

I don't know if you told him or not but why do the red ones have leather on front toes being taken off? :S

Are the spikes removeable?

Not sure what you mean bud, Alba's new balances had been worn for a few weeks prior to sending so weren't brand new. All the spikes screw in and out and he supplied a spike remover with the shoes. ;)

remarkably similar, my shoes are looking a touch dirty now, having been used a few times. I will sort out the pictures tonight.

I have always wanted to have this done but want to know how good the shoes are after a few games as I would hate them to start falling apart. Also what kind of trainers would be best to have spiked as I have a fantastic pair of asics running trainers I could have done.

The two below are triple glued so I cant see them coming apart that quickly, also to add Steve said he only had to repair one pair out of the ones he has done and that was a 2nd XI bowlers set. They both seem very good but a shop frontage and a website made it a bit easier to do business for me in my opinion. B and B seemed a bit elusive but again that's only my experience. :)
