on the talent side...

at 14 Alistair Cook had a ton against his school 1st xl playing as a guest for the MCC.
question 1 - have you scored a ton yet at any level?
if not, then that should be your first target.
score 2 and then the county coaches will look at you.
similar with bowling.

bit unfair it wasnt really possible to get 100 in junior cricket as you had to retire at 50,

i used to play againts bresnan when we where kids and he pretty much got 50 every game and (No Swearing Please) loads of wickets!

wouldnt mind seeing some of his junior cricket stats before he went to yorkshire

really - I was playing full afternoon games from 13... and all day games from 16 - this whole retiring at 50 to give everyone a game thing is rubbish - even in Adult 2020 cricket in my book!

yeah dont get me wrong i was playing open age cricket on a sat from 13, but never got 100 till i was 17.

I was lucky enough to sneak a junior 100 in before this rule, would have been very annoyed at having to walk off after 8 or 9 overs on 50!

Also the earlier points about knowing the right people are very true. I played 2 county matches at the age of 12 purely because my school teacher was running the side in the coaches absence that week! 34* and 0-16 from 4 overs was the extent of my county career as I disappeared in to the wilderness of club and school cricket!

I reckon I must have played against Bresnan, as I used to play against Castleford 2nd XI from the ages of 15-18, and I think he's 2-3 years younger than me

Adam - if you'd like people to help you and advise, then let them know who you play for, what standard you play, examples of who you've played well against, scorecards on your better innings, etc!

maybe mate,

i used to play againts him when he was u17 and i would of been maybe been u15/u13

50 a few times?

lol mate when i was under 13 under 15 and under 17's

i probs got about 10 50's a season,

and i am no wear near county standard so it doesnt really mean poop

This had may as well be locked hadn't it. He's obviously full of proverbial and just on here to waste people's time! He's got his answer, there's nothing anyone else can do for him. He also doesn't sound like he's any good so let him fail on his own!

When I was at District I thought I was amazing, I hit 42 and 33 opening the batting in our last season, U15, and thought I would get a county trial. Now looking back on it after 3/4 years I was very average! Getting into County isn't be all and end all of playing cricket. My mate was in county when we were younger, he didn't get re-selected around under 14's and now we both play 1st team cricket, at an ok standard, I open the batting and bowl. He will be my opening bowler this year when I take over as captain.

What % of junior county players actually make it as a cricketer? I bet the ones that do will have been in the county set up from a young age, around 11? Of course there will be a few exceptions.

Basically, as long as you enjoy your cricket and improve as you get older, then you will get your chance, maybe not at county but at premier league level. Thats what my hopes are, after junior cricket finished I started in the 2nd team, then worked my way up to 1st team opening bat and now onto first team capatain and got selcted for the District U21 side. As long as I keep working at my cricket then I hope to play premier league cricket in 6/7 years time when I'm good enough
