the main reason i hated wearing a lid was visability

the visability on the ayrtek is good tho! i think because of the style of the peak it lets much more light in compared with traditional style lids

I had a mess around with it this week and changed the grill, I still don't seem to be able to pick it up and its bugging me. I was fine with a faster bowling machine but I guess nothing compares to the real release and variability of an actual bowler.

Maybe I'm using the lid as an excuse for bad batting.

I wore a lid once last season in a game other than that I went without, there was a couple of occasions where I probably should of worn one, but the level I play at generally means you can get away without unless you're really unlucky.  The thing is I always wear one in the nets, but find it to restricts my vision and almost makes me feel claustrophobic with the nets there as well!

Having watched someone who normally wears a lid and wasn't top edge the ball into their face off a slow bowler and need stitches in the last few weeks, I'd say always wear a lid.

That is the ultimate problem.

I hate wearing a lid, I feel it really messes up my vision, and I feel I bat better without one - however, I'm persisting with netting with one, as I reckon it will allow me to practice getting my head over the ball without fear.

I reckon I won't bat with one on in the season.

I lent my Ayrtek to a team mate at nets last night as he doesn't normally wear one and the fact he'd be facing bowling machine and rusty bowler. He only agreed as the ayrtek has such great vision and he batted really well in it.

Only problem is that I doubt he will invest in one, and just persist to nab mine everytime!

It's weird, since I've been 18 I've acted more ignorantly towards wearing a helmet, if that makes sense. I took it off halfway through my innings last game last season because I wanted to see what it was like (for the first time) but in nets this year I've netted with one on once out of 5. I don't know if this is because I know it won't bounce high enough and no-one is too quick to hit me with a beamer, I'm not into sweeping indoor as I prefer to play straight and get my feet moving first month or so but there is no real reason for me not to continue to wear it, I just haven't.

I've played with the grill last night. got it into position, the vision seemed great. then tested to see if a ball would go through.

well a ball would go through at any pace really. is it better to have a helmet on that a ball would got through than not wear one at all?

I nearly always wear one, but find that I bat far far better without.

Stumbled upon this video. Explain to me why this happened? Gap between grill and visor to big?

No gap is fine between peak and grille, it the grille that goes backwards and breaks his nose as well as the peak flexing upon impact.

If u watch the slow mo u can see the helmet rise up and move backwards upon impact which is also down to the fit of the helmet on his head
