New Shape, Thoughts?
« on: March 14, 2012, 04:00:20 PM »

Got this bat with me and thinking I may use it, it is 8mm long blade, 12 grains, 36mm edges, 62mm spine and 2.9 dead with no concaving. Nice thick toe and should suit straight hitting and slow low wickets.

It looks as though it would pick up relatively heavy. How do you find it?

I reckon that blade is definitely longer than 8mm

Yes, Tomtek had his dirty paws on it... It picks up heavier than a standard blade, with all the weight down low it has to, strangely this is why I like it as I use heavier bats but with the size of it the lower dead weight might be beneficial.

picked up well and had a nice feel to it in terms of swinging through the line...it would prob improve further with a grip on it to balance it out.

No chance of cracking the toe on it due the the sheer thickness of it!

That's a monster!  It'll be interesting to hear how it picks up with the extra grip!

is that 2lb9 dressed? always wondered how you can make a bat that big with no concaving for that weight. especially as it has the longer blade

I'll grip it at some point, 2.9 naked, would be 2.7 with standard blade, toe is 38mm thick so you get the idea of solidity...

thats a chunky toe. even for 2.7 for standard thats still pretty big. i know alot of wood is taken out of the spine area but even so! Hopefully it goes as well as it looks

How strong would the splice area be, with all the weight removed from there is that a weakness zone now.

personally id like a heavy bat to pick up lighter, this profile (especially with no concaving) seems to suggest a lighter bat that picks up heavier. willow wise, looks a stunner.

The trick is that the bat has increased willow in the blade and that makes the splice looks thin but would be as thick as a standard bat in that area. Also remember that the dead weight is low, the splice is not putting up with 3.2 being swung through it. I kept the volume of willow in the blade to increase power, I think this will rival anything I've had before.

It's like a slightly less extreme L&W Ultra. Though my Ultra picks up pretty well tbf.
