Improving pick up
« on: March 29, 2012, 05:59:26 PM »

Got my scoop in the pro direct sale. Ordered a light but got a 2.10 which is slightly too heavy for me. Is there any way I can improve the pick up without altering performance. Sorry if this has been posted before, couldn't find anything on it.

Take a little bit of wood off the toe with a plane. Or send it to one of the Forum Sponsors and get a professional weight reduction and re-balancing ;)

You can make a counter weight at the top of the handle using lead tape. Be warned that this may alter the 'middle' of the bat.

Counter balance, put an extra grip on the handle to improve pick up, or simply use it more as it will feel lighter when you are used to it. Failing that send it back for a lighter version.

Ah now this is interesting. It will alter the 'PLV' (Point of Least Vibrations) which is what feels like the middle, but the 'PBR' (Point of Best Rebound) will not be changed by such counter-weights.

Thanks for the responses guys. Already got two grips on it because I hate the thin handle.

Adding weight to the top of the bat makes the middle feel higher up but it is actually not.

Just as a FYI the techie terms are coefficient of percussion (vibration) and coefficient of restitution (rebound)

Think Norbs did an article on whether counterbalances shift middles and the centre of gravity at some point, will have a look.

Well that goes without saying...!

He doesn't want to alter the weight, he wants to make the bat feel better in his hands and there are ways of doing that as mentioned above, which he can try.  And why not.

Once again thanks for the help. Any advice on a counter balance?

Tbh ditch the Scoop! It's theoretically the worst bat for pickup IMO.
