Shane Watson Flare, really worth it?
« on: April 03, 2012, 03:51:58 AM »

As we all know Flare is shape based on Shane Watson's shape (not presently), so since we have been seeing Watson Flare in 2.12 with pick up index of 3, can someone tell me what would the difference be between a 2.12 Watson Flare GM+ with pick up of 3 and above mention Watson Flare? The thickness? Well GM+ would be probably as thick as Watson Flare so my question is where do difference lie? If I'm not mistaken couple of days ago we read by GM rep that pressing on all of there DXM bats is same.

So the difference in price is just for laser engraved autograph, no?

I would say get a very good GM+ bat. Or if you want to spend so much then you can might as well go for a Screaming Cat again or get two very good custom made bats made for you. Just my frank opinion  8)

LOL, actually I am not considering to buy GM Watson Flare this topic was rather for discussion purpose :)

Kaustav, Screaming Cat is already on list :)

Now I prefer Trott's shape more than Watson's after my recent observations lol

Homes are desperate for them but the current owner is being lazy in shipping them out past Atlantic ;)

I have used both bats extensively and the Watson edition flare in my opinion is superior for my game as due to the size of the bat and the amount of wood you can get behind any shot it suits both the front and rear foot player!!! But I have to stress if you can time your shots right any bat will do the Watson just suits the big hitter more than the flare + which is also an excellent bat!!!

If the stock shape stays the same how is the GM pick up index determined?
I assume that 1 picks up the best and 6 the heaviest.

I believe so yes, and that means that the pick-up index is determined by the density and variability of the willow within the standard shape. We found an Icon GM+ in the oval with a pickup index of 1. It was lovely and I'd bet it didn't weigh more than 2lb10oz.

This is an interesting bat - I can't get over how soft it looks!!

I would go for a players edition as the wood will be superior as they are very hard to find clefts that will make his bats.
That bat in the pic is one that I believe was repaired as be likes to use a bat till it dies if he likes it
