Glove Samples-Feedback Appreciated!
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:23:23 PM »

To those of you who've take a look and moved on thinking 'Onlinestockist' I only bought these as a little trial to see how this business works. After I shift these I intend on making my own designs but I'm 16 and there's no way I could convince my parents without learning for myself what this was about.

I'm not trying to fob you lot off, I know better than that. Custom bats forums is for the guys who really care about their equipment, so I only wanted to put these up here to see what people thought of them, what they'd pay and where I could make improvements on existing designs when I designed my own.

I'm not just another one of those guys who tries to overprice things and sell them off, I'm only trying to gain an understanding into the ins and outs of how people buy and sell cricketing goods.

Hi guys,

So I decided to order some samples of fairly generic glove styles with some minor specs just to gauge quality, styling, price and sales.

Here are a few photos, and I'd appreciate some positive and negative (though preferably constructive) feedback from you guys as the main consumers, retailers and designers of cricketing goods  :)

1st off are the sausage style gloves...

And lastly the shark-tooth style gloves...

Both styles have high quality leather palms and the build quality is about 8/10, something I would look to improve on.

I would appreciate your feedback, as well as a price you might be willing to pay with some development.

Thanks guys!

Shiv

I prefer shark tooth gloves but for me I don't like the little cut outs or tabs on each segment of the glove. Prefer them to be plain, or single coloured

Thanks Colesy, yes I'm not that fond of them much either.

Langer, yes they do resemble some that he is selling, however since this is the first time I have purchased anything other than personal items I wanted a fairly standard design just as an easy baseline measurement.

I think when it comes to glove samples like this yours are the almost the same as everybody Else's that have popped up as samples. I would say the two styles you have are the most used and liked on here so its really down to colour, graphics and price as well as little things to set them apart from everybody else (what these might be I don't know)

If you look at the new SAF gloves, apart from graphics there is not a lot of difference between them and some of the other brands with a similar style of glove, they all offer the best protection and are all finished to a high quality, where SAF have that little thing which I have not seen on other gloves is there top hand thumb has some towel on it to wipe sweat from your brow, wether this is a good Idea or not is still yet to be seen but it is that something extra that nobody else has done.

When It comes to price if you can offer good quality gloves that look the part at a slightly lower cost than the competetors you should be OK

Stitching on the sausage gloves looks rather untidy on the middle and index fingers with overhang on the middle finger giving a bit of an unfished look IMO....I'd want them finished to a higher standard personally

too true there Tom, the market is incredibly compettitive ATM, with brands such as GM, GN, etc catering for the masses, then brands like Shamrock, SAF and Ayrtek supplying just as good if not better softs for a much smaller market! The finishing, material/protection quality, price and graphics would need to make you stand out as FvanN said simply because there are so many brands producing such high quality softs ATM

Thanks guys. Yes Tom those were my thoughts exactly, I wasn't fond of the overhang on the stitching, it's definetely something I'd need to consider sorting out in the future.

Cheers,

Fair play to you at 16 for having the get up and go to research such a project.

As far as I see, innovation in Gloves is tough, as they are all fit for purpose and designs across the board tend not to differ greatly. A decent logo and colour scheme as someone has suggested is vital but even then; to sell enough that will warrant further time being spent on sourcing different styles and designs will be tough in a challenging market.

Best of luck!
